Agreed... Goal keeping was s**t

Goalkeeping was not s**t. First, you should know that as a goalkeeper, you expect the ball to move in the direction opposite the favoured leg of the kicker as that is the direction that the spin naturally imparted to the ball by a player takes it. i.e. Since Bale is kicking with his left foot, the GK would anticipate the ball to move to the right.

For the first goal, Bale's free kick not only went the "wrong" way as he kicked across the underside of the ball to eliminate the sideways spin, the ball also dipped sharply and bounced right in front of the goalkeeper which made it extremely hard to deal with. The GK only truly sees the direction of the ball after it curls over the wall and there is almost no time for him to notice that the ball is going to bounce in front of him. He did ok to get down low to his right, he needed to stay up to keep it out.

On the second goal, he shifts to his left (you notice this if you look at the replays) as, again, he is anticipating a ball moving to his left-hand side. The FK was much shorter distance than the first and this gave him no chance to re-adjust; he was simply wrong-footed and had no chance to get back in time to stop the shot. I would not blame either goal on Vercoutre. One thing I will say is that, given that Bale had already tried a different style of free kick, Vercoutre maybe should have thought about it and anticipated that he would shoot in the same side of the net again.

I agree. ESPECIALLY that second one, if you see the replay a couple of times, his reactions are so late, its kinda embarrassing to think that's Lloris replacement :/

Not embarrassing at all, you are seeing the FK from Bale's side, Lyon goalkeeper only gets to see the ball's movement after it is over the wall.

This plus the fact he is anticipating a shot to the other side of the net means it is very difficult for him to stop either goal. See analysis above.
