Also Midfielder Abou Diaby has signed a new long-term contract at UEFA Champions League contenders Arsenal FC.Influential role
The 23-year-old joined Arsenal from AJ Auxerre in January 2006 and has gone on to make 78 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, scoring eleven goals – the last of which came in Sunday's 3-0 win against Aston Villa FC. Manager Arsène Wenger said: "Abou has a huge presence on the pitch and has the potential to be an influential part of Arsenal for many years." Diaby added: "I'm very happy here which is why I'm so pleased to extend my contract." The north London club, who have also agreed a new deal with 19-year-old midfielder Henri Lansbury, play FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round on 17 February and 9 March.
I am delighted that Arsenal FC midfielder Tomáš Rosický has joined a host of team-mates in signing a new contract with Arsène Wenger quick to praise the 29-year-old Czech international's "remarkable touch and vision".

Injury woes
Having joined the London club in May 2006, Rosický has featured in just 54 Premier League games after being sidelined for 18 months with a persistent hamstring injury initially sustained in early 2008. He has slowly returned to the fore this term and now follows the likes of Abou Diaby, Carlos Vela, Eduardo and Alex Song in agreeing a new deal with the Gunners. "I truly believe I have a lot left to offer the club, my team-mates and all the supporters," he said. "I believe we're on the verge of achieving something special together."

'Special talent'
Wenger was equally upbeat after tying down another of his squad. "I have spoken many times of Tomáš's class and contribution, not only on the pitch but off it as well. [His] vision and touch is remarkable. Tomáš is a special talent and we're delighted he has committed his future to Arsenal." Rosický made four appearances as Arsenal won UEFA Champions League Group H to set up a first knockout round tie against FC Porto on 17 February and 9 March.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez admits he is 'working hard' in his attempts to sign new players in the January transfer window.

The Reds have struggled this season as injuries to the likes of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres have exposed a thin squad, and rumours have linked the club to a number of players.

Talks are understood to be taking place with Atletico Madrid midfielder Maxi Rodriguez, while Greece international full-back Vasil Torosidis has been rumoured as a replacement for Glen Johnson during his knee injury-enforced absence.

Asked if he was considering signing a full-back, Benitez said: "Yes, we are working hard (on transfers) and trying to do our jobs, and we'll see if we can do something.

"We are looking in the market but it's not easy to find good players available because the majority of them are playing in top sides. But we are trying to find solutions if we can."

Benitez may look to generate funds by offloading Andriy Voronin, Ryan Babel and Andrea Dossena, but he is wary of weakening his squad.

He added: "We have some good players who people are interested in because they're not playing too many games for us, but we have to manage carefully."

Other players linked with Liverpool are Galatasaray midfielder Arda Turan, Standard Liege striker Milan Jovanovic, Malaga defender Ivan Gonzalez and Crystal Palace youngster Victor Moses.
