It looks like Trappatoni has been really working very hard with the Irish players to invent some clever free kicks and corners. It's an excellent tactic because you can always prepare for them weeks in advance. Especially seeing as Ireland have a somewhat weak team (apart from some individuals) they need to get the goals anyway they can

Well, Ireland have gone unbeaten in qualifying. Now hopefully we don't get some awesome team against us in the playoff.

whelan's goal was great but st. ledger's header inches from the turf at 87' was also very impressive.

given did not have a very good game but that happens every now and then. better for it to happen in qualifying than in the cup. he is still top class.

now that you've all posted your bias comments (i'm referring in particular to the obvious irish fans), not many of you really watched the whole match!! Cus if you had, you'd have noticed that Italy had most of the possession, especially in the 2nd half!! In doing so controlled the game. (Italy got what they came for a point for qualification). Which if Ireland had of been in the same position, they would also celebrated hard with a draw. The fact is that it was a great game for both sides, and 4, not just 2, great goals! If it had have been Ireland scoring a fantastic goal in the last minute, would we now be calling them lucky? no I don't think so! You'd all be suggesting it was a fantastic bit of skilful play and recovery!!
