this is not the only game barca won by the same cheap way by refs in CL.. remember chelsea 2 years ago.. now arsenal and madrid lost the same way.. noone can deny barca is the best team in the world but it doesnt mean they deserve to win every game
Complete bull s**t on that card. I was reading an article and it said that its was 1 sec between the whistle and the shot. Even watching this video you can see how short of a time between it was. Its Arsenals fault for loosing, they played for a draw. which was bull s**t, should of played the highline defense and pressured and attacked like last time. Then the outcome would of been different, hands down
I guess Barca deserved to win (foul on messi = penalty in the first half), but sending off Van Persie on such an occasion is really cheap.
for me, the score should have been 2-1 barca with 11 men on arsenal's side. With the game going into extra time, things could have turned either way. I just find it cheap that the referee tipped the balance of the game on such a little detail (I really don't think van persie was trying to win an extra 5 seconds when he shot the ball...)
Then again, its normal referees try to favor "bigger" (teams which attract more attention and thus more money) teams. It would have been a real shame if Barca had been kicked out this early in the competition, wouldn't it...
Just watched the replay again.

In fact, if you close your eyes and pause right as the ref blows his whistle, RvP is kicking/already has kicked the ball. Aren't strikers supposed to try and score in case the referee overrides the linesman? Also, it's not like it was a blatant offside either. He has no idea where the defender might be behind him. So only time wasting if it was BEFORE the whistle yeah? (which it wasn't) Oh well, I guess it was just a bad call...

just saw it again. timing is off. 2 seconds difference. But still, only 2 seconds... :P
a bunch of sources clocked it, like bbc, and said there was a 1.1 second difference from the whistle to the kick. absolute bs
Terrible call! i hate barca but cmon... you guys really think you deserved or could have changed the outcome with van persie playing.... Arsenal was an embarrassment! I am a Real Madrid fan and we were without a doubt ridiculous when playing Barca but i expected waaay more from arsenal due to the last performance.

they didnt need to change the outcome, if they kept it at a draw, for which most of the game it was looking like that, especially since fabregas gave them a gift in the first goal. also if they do concede a 2nd goal, they go to extra time. they would not have given up 2 more like they did with 11 men

F*** I dont know what to say I have been sitting here typing something that was honest I thought no I tried typing something that was reserved and relaxed about how that is just the game and such nonsense but really. In this match you are going to send someone off for a minor infraction? Its like sending him off for not tucking in his shirt. Com on man.

About the penalty on Messi on the first half? Nobody comment about it, but it was a fall 2 meters away ffrom the referee.
I agree with the call. btw, the sound is WAY off in this video! the ref called it at least a whole second before van Persie's strike.
I do want to add that sending him off under such circumstances is not something that helps the sport or the competition. Also, if the ref was not completely sure, which I'm sure he wasn't, if van Persie heard the whistle, he shouldn't have called it, but judging by van Persie's shot and reaction after he missed in such a horrible way (what he supposedly thought was a legitimate play), I think he DID hear the whistle and thought the ref was going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
whatever
1 second difference cannot be a yellow card for time wasting... It's a striker's job to carry on until he hears the whistle, and 1 second is barely enough reaction time. :P

If the whistle had been some crazy fan in the stadium and vp had stopped playing, he would have been called an idiot...

Thank you. Thank you for being inept, Mr. "Referee". Thank you.

I personally don't like Arsenal all that much but man I wanna f**k up this ref for what he did.

I am a Die hard barca fan but THis decision was HARSH

cmon guys, arsenal didnt lose the game just because of that...

u never know. Arsenal was getting dominated but was still in the game until Van Persie's red.
+2
really??
just read what u write again, i dont think u believe in that

Arsenal didnt shoot on goal the whol game??????
it was just question of time when Barca will score

Barca should winn 5-7 not just 3 and we all know that

you should thank you keeper, he was amazing
dont blame th ref. because he didnt give us a penalty in 2 games
Barca was amazing, they were fantastic withoult Pique and Puyol!!!
the fact was barca, thru that point, had only scored one goal and it was a gift from fabregas. the game COMPLETELY CHANGED. barcelona went from 8 shots thru 59 minutes to 21 by the end of the game. 13 more shots in 30 min without 10 men, no s**t they are going to get 2 in.
van persie lost it for them
barca was dominating, sure, but were unable to break through arsenal's defence effectively (they scored at apoint when arsenal tried to rush forwards to counter-attack)
the decision to kick out vp was the referee seeing that barça were dominating but not scoring, so he decided to compensate for having missed the penalty kick in the first half... (somewhat cheap)

no big d,just a bad call, i mean it's not like it was the second leg of a champions league match
+3
for the last three years every big team plays barca in knock offs got one of their players sent of. except for chelsea vs barca which i think did not need sending off a player since the ref overlooked 6 penalties.
+3
everybody loves barca, even the referees...
I have a lot of respect for Van Persie. I dont know how Van Persie didn't go ape s**t. If that happened to me, I would of knocked his ass out.
+5
that's if you had the talent to play in the Champions League :p
literally as he kicked the ball the whistle went. what bull
+5
I don't know if purposely, but the sound in the video is way off.
there was a delay but bbc and other sources clocked it, there was a 1 SECOND DIFFERENCE from when the whistle blew to when he kicked it
