Maybe now people will finally stop buying into the fallacy that the EPL is by far and away the best and toughest league in the world while La Liga is rubbish and has only two good teams. Here's a club fighting for 4th in La Liga that completely played the current champions and this season's EPL leaders off the pitch! Just in case anyone had any doubts they did it in both games! And the 5-3 aggregate score doesn't reflect Bilbao's domination at all. Man U scored on pretty much every chance they got while Bilbao could've easily banged in about 15 and their complete domination was bordering on embarrassing, including at Old Trafford!

This was incredible to watch and Bielsa is without a doubt one of the top managers in the world. His Chile side were also amazing to watch in the last World Cup.
Wow... Llorente's goal........(speechless)
Credit to Rooney's goal, that one was also a great goal.
That shot from Iraola where he dribbled past 3 Man United defenders would have been awesome had it gone in.

And Llorente's goal was just top class...I know from experience that those types of shots where the ball drops from over your shoulder are very hard to hit well.

La Liga is NOT better than the Premier League for one reason, the EPL is more competitive however the style of play and the quality of the teams in La Liga ARE better than that of the EPL. You just simply can't match the excitement and twists and turns of the EPL!

Let me poke a major hole in your logic. So what you're basically saying is that any league that is more competitive than La Liga is better. So if let's say the Polish league is very competitive this year and has a lot of twists and turns it's better.

The fact is that La Liga has higher quality players, higher quality teams and thus is better. The fact that Barca & Real dominate it doesn't mean it's rubbish. It just means that these two are by far and away the two best clubs on the planet. They would be just as dominant in this year's EPL.

Also, using your logic the Bundesliga is better than the EPL because it's more competitive year in and year out.

I love that Bilbao knocked ManU out and finally people are starting to notice that there are great teams other than Barca and Madrid in La Liga.

Barca is gonna have a hard time against Bilbao.

This team has the same style as Barca
Manchester United brought way more people to the europa league channel
Athletic Bilbao your name will be remembered for insulting "big teams" in EPL who thought they deserve to win just because they have more media coverage. watch out!

love it.not easy to do though. But i wont forget this one in a long time.Done in style Bilboa!
Bilbao didn't deserve to win. Man United was the bigger club... :(

overall the english teams have a hard time coping with faster passing and more agile players, from spain or portugal. They have technique, n focus on playing smart football, while the english mainly bring big bears. they want everyone to be big, so they arent as quick and agile. dont get me wrong tho, manu is out of this world. I love all english teams. just somethin i noticed

I haven't seen a ManU defense split so wide open all season. Shows that Bielsa's is brilliant tactician and that his tactics have yielded results. I
I think this should of been ManU's approach the first game but then again they would still have been precarious in Midfield.
What I think was the key for Bilbao is how Bielsa played both Javi Martines and Iker Muniain. While Muniain played a classic Media- Punta, leading that creative thrust at 3/4 of the pitch, Javi Martinez acted like a hybrid of a classic holding midfield/ but then dropped back to form a 4- men line when they felt pressured by a united attack. A false #4?

Iker Muniain is a star in the making. That boy has a bright future ahead of him. Both Rooney's and Llorentes goal were a thing beauty.

Anyways...good game. Feel bad for united but they deserved this season European exit. Brilliant Bilbao for the Cup!
