I'm not trying to put Messi down, but lets do a fair comparison, from the right angle;
messi is a striker (some would say 2), ronaldo is a half striker 3/4 midfielder, his duties on the field are various. Now, it isn't a coincidence that the spanish midfield conquered the world cup, a midfield that belongs mostly to barcelona, being xabi alonso the madrid player. When you are getting passes from iniesta or xavi, half the work is done, ask Eto'o, ask Dinho. Barca has been building up and up since frank rijkard came into the coaching scene and ronaldinho put camp nou back on the map, xavi and iniesta (can't leave out puyol) are the soul of the team, picking up the baton dinho passed on. and yeah messi is great, but the same was said about past strikers in front of that same midfield.
R7 had been carrying most of the weight himself (now that oezil and kedehira are in it's not as much work) and he has still managed to keep up with his 1 for 1 goals per match.
If it were so true that messi has a "bigger effect on them team", then why didn't argentina take the WC? Ronaldo didn't win it with portugal aether, but he did light up the spark when portugal whooped spain 4-0. In soccer 1+1 usually never =2 but xavi + iniesta will always = a high scoring striker. madrid 2 barca 1. ronaldo and messi are too different to be compared fairly.
I agree with you to a certain extent, I think if messi were to go to another team he would find it much harder without xavi, iniesta and the whole barca way of playing football. I think arsenal have a similar kind of football (obviously not quite as good) but adebayor had loads of tap ins when he scored all those goals for us, and in fact should have had more, bendtner got a bunch when he started regularly, etc.
However i dont agree with blaming messi for argentina's failings, he was great and will continue to have a great influence on the national team, the reason i think they failed in the world cup was they had demichelis and guttierez in defence and just their defence in general was poor, leaving out zanetti and cambiasso was a huge mistake and i knew from the start they'd fall as soon as they played a team with a decent attack.
real is gonna win

Messi is the most talented footballer of this generation and maybe of any other generation, not only has he single handely won almost every prestigious cup with barcelona, he has also come back from an ankle injury this year, not only that if you were to youtube any of Messi's goals where he has score by himself without any of the bottle passes you are talking about, Let's not forget his hat trick against zaragoza, his infamous poker against arsenal last year, his amazing run against spain when they play in argentina, the goal against getafe, the hand of god, his cutbacks from one end of the pitch to the other, his undeniable ball control and agility, the man is a soccer legend, at 23 years of age. Ronaldo is a great player, has an amazing shot from distance and undeniable skill with his feet, but messi is among the greatest players of all time, in the likes of zidane, maradona, pele, van basten, hugo sanchez, the original ronaldo, among others, he is the king of this generation, and will continue to dominate and amaze everybody with his runs, and lethal skill to score goals, 6 games straight scoring and counting.

Why are people comparing ronaldo with the great Messi?? they are not even close to each other in talent... it is really a disgrace how someone can watch a guy like Messi play this amazing, wonderful, spectacular and creative football and look at silly ronaldo with his speed and boring, infamous tricks... it is just very easy to distinguish... and to me I actually think Gareth Bale is better than ronaldo. No Joke!

the panathinaikos keeper was brilliant, he made some superb saves, its as well or it could have been a cricket score.

Barca really are scary at going forward but still when is Pique gonna get a CB that is equally as good as Poyul but younger and faster? (if there is anyone like that out there on the market!?!)

The big question? I'd go for a player that is a cross between those two and that would be 'the real' Ronaldo!
There is...His name is Thiago Silva.
