Rampant Portugal inflict Spain's biggest defeat for 47 years
Agencies - 2 years ago

Portugal gained a measure of revenge for their World Cup exit at the hands of Spain by inflicting a humiliating 4-0 defeat on their Iberian neighbours in Lisbon last night. Goals from Jorge Carlos Martins, the Spain defender Sergio Ramos, who put into his own net, Hélder Postiga and Hugo Almeida condemned the world champions to their biggest defeat since 1963, when they lost 6-2 to Scotland.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice in Poland's 3-1 win over Ivory Coast. Lewandowski's first came in the 19th minute but Gervinho equalised just before the interval. Ludovic Obraniak's free-kick restored Poland's lead with Lewandowski sealing the win 10 minutes from time.

The former Italy coach Marcello Lippi, strongly tipped to take charge of Ukraine for Euro 2012, watched the tournament's co-hosts draw 2-2 with Switzerland in Geneva. Alexander Frei twice put the Swiss ahead only for Ukraine to level through Oleksandr Aliyev and Yvgenii Konoplianka.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored the only goal as Holland defeated Turkey 1-0 in Amsterdam. Huntelaar struck after 52 minutes when he found the net from the edge of the area.

Sweden and Germany ground out a scoreless draw in Gothenburg. Star names were missing from both sides, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic absent for the hosts while Germany were missing Mesut Ozil, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski.

Georgios Fotakis enjoyed a dream debut as he led Greece to a 2-1 win over Austria. The PAOK midfielder set up Greece's opener for Georgios Samaras after 48 minutes and, after Christian Fuchs had levelled for Austria, popped up with his first international goal nine minutes from time to seal victory.

Denmark were left to rue Michael Krohn-Dehli's penalty miss as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to the Czech Republic.

South Africa were beaten 1-0 at home by the USA, Georgia ran out 2-1 winners away to Slovenia and Estonia and Liechtenstein played out a 1-1 draw.

In all-African friendly encounters, Senegal were 2-1 winners over Gabon, Mali beat DR Congo 3-1, Mozambique went down to a 3-1 loss to Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso posted a 2-1 victory over Guinea.

Azeal, if it wasn't a friendly game, spain wouldn't of played that bad (remember the world cup??)... they obviously didn't take the game seriously, mainly because they didn't want any injuries (Barça-Real Madrid is on monday 29th and no one wants to miss it), look what happened to gerrard, 3 weeks out and just because of a friendly match... portugal on the other hand took it real seriously and they did a great game
Indeed! Portugal performed amazingly in their match against the 2010 World Cup champions... I think that Portugal needs to work on their chemistry though, as talented as they already are! Perfect example is Nani misreading the game- on second thought, it was probably selfishness- that lead to his naive header after one of Ronaldo's chip shots!
right Himmou, in that case you must admire a team that doesnt bother to even care despite playing their worst enemy, and not being able to score despire 70% possession. Yeah I remember the world cup, zZzZzZz 1-0 1-0 1-0 1-0
oh spain could beat portugal
