some nice goals in there, you guys scored more today than 18 la liga sides have scored all season so far. not bad.
They've also conceded the second most :P

Offense was great nonetheless, quite efficient today, and nice to see Chicharito open up his goalscoring. Offense picked up where last season left off
Atleti played 2-2 with Celta at Calderon. And both goals they scored were from headers after set pieces. The scores were,of course, Godin and Miranda, their CB.
Damn my dreamfooty will be looking awesome tomorrow.. ronaldo and bale making me happy; dortmund disappointed me though

Unsurprisingly, no one has mentioned Asier Illarramendi.

Even when Real Madrid were 3 goals up at the Riazor, the same problems they've encountered in midfield were on display against the Galician's. They were easy to hit on the break, left too much space open to be exploited, and didn't provide the back four with adequate support. It wasn't until Illarra was introduced into the game when Real Madrid's midfield started taking shape.

From then on Real Madrid effectively neutralized Depor and eradicated any sense of a possible comeback from them. The spaces closed up, transitioning became a lot more fluid, and you could start to see 'balance' within the team.

I genuinely believe Illarra is the long-term solution to this midfield problem.
+3
I will mention that I was impressed with the willingness of James Rodriguez to work all across the pitch. It's even more impressive when you realize he was played in an advanced role and still put in work at the back (usually the left flank). That's progress.
+2
Actually we were struggling until Bale scored the forth goal. After that they were done. I didnt see much from Illarra today, defensively nor offensively. I think Khedira will be much more vital this season. Shame we loand out Casemiro before we knew Xabi is leaving.
+1
Well i did watch closely and i didn't see any change in play when Illarra came in. We were still under pressure, and Deportivo was attacking, looking very motivated and dangerous. It was like that until the moment when Isco stole the ball in their half and found Bale for the forth goal witch then killed them mentally, and piratically gave up after that.

Now as for the Khedira and Illarra debate,do you think Illarra could bench any of these 3 midfielders playing right now? I don't like the set up of Kroos,Modric and James, there is almost non defensive responsibility there. We need at least one more defensive minded player there. With always silent performances like this,Illarra has no chance of proving him self to Carlo. Khedira has a much better odds of being the defensive substitution when matches like this happen.

Right now,as strange as it sound,Isco is the most balanced(defensively and offensively) midfielder we have. I think even Carlo is troubled that he doesn't know how to integrate him into the starting XI.
Despite being 3 goals down, Deportivo still had meaning in their movements. The Real Madrid midfield still allowed far too much space for Depor to work and didn't properly shield the back four. The Madridista's would be complaining if it weren't for the amount of goals scored before the break.

If anyone was impressed with the way the midfield performed then they'll be in for a rough surprise against the better sides, unless of course something changes.

Watch the match again and pay close attention to the way the midfield reacts with and without Asier Illarramendi. Pay attention to the way they respond to Deportivo as a unit, not as individual players.

Depor were done as soon as they found it difficult getting by Real Madrid's midfield. From then on, Real Madrid found it easier to transition and to outnumber Depor in key positions.

As for Sami Khedira, I don't see him being an extremely vital component of Carlo Ancelotti's plans. For one, he's more of a CM than a DM. The fact that he's defensively competent and isn't active offensively for Real Madrid fools a lot of people into thinking he's a natural DM.

Second, Ancelotti is looking to maintain a possession-oriented dynamic. Khedira doesn't offer much in this regard. In such a system there simply shouldn't be any comparisons made to someone like Illarra, who'd thrive under this system (refer to his performances for Real Sociedad and U21 Spain, and even Real Madrid). Casemiro would be a better fit than Khedira even.

Third, one of Khedira's best attributes is winning the ball back and disrupting opposition play. Why would Real Madrid need to rely on such a player when they'll likely have the majority of possession anyway?

I like Khedira, but if Real Madrid are going to continue playing the way they do, than I don't think Khedira is as vital as the other midfielders. It would still be great to have him physically and mentally fit though. Depth is important.
I didn't watch the game cos I lost track of time but from the commentary I read is was said that real madrid were shaky defensively and with their performance in that position, they would definitely suffer against stronger opponents.... deportivo had little or no threat attack wise and that is why they suffered so much becos it even gave room for players like arbeloa and marcelo to destroy them..

So as for illarramendi.. I know he didn't start which is wrong considering he is d only true defensive midfielder we have but he is still clearly nowhere close to real madrid quality or a long term solution to that position. But he needs to play regardless unless someone better is signed.

It's really shame that you guys can't see how well illara performed.imo once he was on the pitch, team looked much calm n assured.and one of your scape goat, benzema played extremely well too.may be you guys will tell, chicharito should be the starter because he scored two goals.I will be very happy,if your manager also think same:)
Isco is magic! This guy is something else,he came in and took the game right away. Great movement and 2 assists to his name. Ronaldo,James,Kroos and Bale were phenomenal. But I'm mostly glad for Chicharito! Can't wait for him to take the strikers starting spot.
+2
Don't hold your breath
+2
Excuse me?
Oh,well he has his opinion and I have mine. All I'm going to say is that the link up play has never been smother since the minute Benzema was subbed. But even more importantly,Chicharito deserves a chance to prove himself as a starter if nothing else.
+1
He thinks Chicharito won't become a start :P

If that's true, your in for a surprise @MementoMori!
+3
Its as if Benzema didn't contribute at all today. Both will get their share of play time. The reason Carlo got Hernandez instead of someone like Falcao was because he values what Benzema brings to the team and wants to keep him as first choice.

inb4 link man jokes.
+1
Isco, as well as Luka Modric and Jese Rodriguez, are the best close-quarter control players at Real Madrid. Their control, mobility, and dribbling allow them to manoeuvre past opposition players almost elegantly.

I've never seen Chicharito score goals like that. If that's a sign of things to come, he'll be quite useful for Carlo Ancelotti.

I really liked James Rodriguez's game today too. I still don't like the midfield set-up, but I won't pin that against him. Good work from him all around the pitch.
+1
Like I said before, any striker will start if they join madrid... benzema is just here becos perez is still the presido..

A striker who hasn't scored 2 goals in over 270 minutes but hernandez has done it in less than 27 minutes of playing time... and barely 60 minutes of his real madrid career..

When last did benzema score a brace not mention a hat trick? If I am not wrong, I can guarantee he has not scored upto 5 goals in his last 20 games for real madrid
Please- I really don't know what d f some ppl see in benzema. I think right now, he career is just hanging and playing for madrid is just whats keeps his name floating.

Cjayzz

He scored 3 goals in his last 23 matches.
So happy to see Chicharito on the scoresheet!
Ronaldo and Bale banging in goals left and right, my DreamFooty team is happy! :)

Awesome result! Congrats

great offense today. Defense was good for periods. However no one really wanted to play defense besides varane haha

also JAMES motm contender for me.
haha, and some of you were moaning about James the other day saying he was a silly signing.
That was me. Hoping to eat my words but its best to judge a player after a season.
Beautiful goals in the game today ..
What is the best goal?
Chicharito's first goal! Though, James' goal was pretty nice too!
+2
James goal is the best imo..
James' goal. Chicha's goal was good too tho close second
Chicharito hands down. James is a lefty but Munez is a righty right? The way he hit the ball...damn.
+2
Chichas goal but ronaldos was something special as well. Accuracy power technique in bboth goals
+1
