Why is everyone complaining about who will play and who are gonna sit (mostly non-madrid fans)? In football today the team can change in style and players from game to game. There is a certain style against lesser opposition, and another style against bugger opposition. Against teams that park the his a different team will play then vs a team that will come out looking for goals. Depth is a great thing, and it will allow us to do that.

Last year imo we struggled against very defensive minded teams, and that could be why we slipped up in the end of the season. But against teams like Bayern who were on our level perhaps and came to look for goals, we had good games playing on the counter.

Carlo wants a note controlled possession based game, moving away from relying on counterattacks. Its why Kroos was brought in, he fits the mold for our midfield.

James Rodriguez signs for Real Madrid and suddenly everyone is an expert on this club...

Real Madrid struggled with injuries more than anything last season. It was during opportune moments as well. Xabi Alonso's injury during the initial stages of the season and Jese Rodriguez's during the latter stages of the season really hurt the club.

Breaking through compact sides with a well thought-out defensive set-up was a point of concern as well. Atletico Madrid, Levante (away), and Elche (away), among others, really made the club work.

Real Madrid struggled more in Spain than in Europe (perhaps the domestic struggles paradoxically helped in Europe).

Having depth should provide the manager with further options, increase flexibility, and allow the club to adapt to the circumstances more appropriately.

Asasiyum ,very well said, RM does't really had back up option for Xabi, when he got suspended for UCL final, khaderia was just returning from an injury, without playing many matches before final & not fully fit. illaramendi was clearly out of form and club was forced to play khedira.
when ronaldo & bale was injured during the last part of season, jese was also in the injured list and club was forced to make many changes.
Having depth in the squad can help to some extent, which i would fell do good if we are not selling many players
Finally comments that are more logical rather then opinion based, leave it to others to unify us behind what we should be doing from the beginning and supporting all our new players and the decisions of our clubs managers.

Depth= weapons of mass destruction Bale, James, CR7, Benz, Kroos, Modric, Isco, Jese, WOOW are you kidding me:)

We will see what happens to ADM curious to see the result.
90,900Euros worth of shirts sold in one hour at the Real Madrid store they ran out of White shirts all James cant wait to see him link up with the BBC.

Well it appears shirt sales will go as planned now hope our new boy can show what he has on the pitch and we all support him like we have all our other new players HalaMadrid!!

Barcelona just signed Jeremy Mathieu for €20 million. Ronaldo and Bale better watch out.
+4
Ooo....so scary :P
+3
Mathieu for Ballon D'or
+1
Considering we beat you guys both times in the league last season without any defenders apparently, I think the addition of ANY defender will be fine. Plus, he's stronger and has more pace than the log we call Pique. I think we will be fine.
+4
What a foolish signing. He's a good CB but not worth that much considering his age. Might as well gone all out on Hummels instead. Oh well, better for us I suppose
I think people are being a little too harsh on Mathieu. It's not his fault Barca are signing him for 20m when they could have signed him last year for 10m before he renewed his contract and his release clause went up.

10m less and a year younger. That's Zubi for ya...

I actually like Mathieu. I think he's getting so much hate because after 4 years of waiting for a new CB that they landed on him is pretty shocking.
+3
Mathieu is horrible.
Signing anything from Valencia FC is always a bad omen.
^Yeah, bad omen. Like David Villa, Jordi Alba, David Silva, and Juan Mata were.
+6
As long as Mathieu isn't the only CB Barca signs, I think it's perfectly fine. 20 mil for a proven CB that fits the bill isn't the end of the world in today market, and it doesn't rule out signing another, more expensive one as well. There's that transfer-ban looming after all.
I'm just curious, what will your line-up look like with the addition of Kroos. Modric and Kroos together in the pivot seems very weak defensively so I assume that Alonso is a definite starter with Khedira leaving. So that leaves us with Alonso, Modric, Kroos, James and BBC. That's why I'm mindboggled, will either Modric or Kroos be benched?
You have to know that the players you mentioned mostly play a different position. i.e. Khedira, Kroos, and James.

And Carlo played both 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 last season.

In the 4-3-3 James will probably not start. In the 4-2-3-1 he will be the CAM. And vice versa for Kroos in the 4-2-3-1.. although having 1 CDM and Kroos beside him will be good enough.
Our Castilla has signed finnish striker Eero Markkanen. Can't believe it because few years back we were playing in the same team O_o. It is an honor to know the first finn to play for Real personally.
+5
Great news... Must be a special feeling to be a friend of a Real Madrid player

Imagine how Eero might be feeling now :)
We finally got an inside man! Lol just kidding,it must be an amazing and weird feeling to know somebody who actually plays for Madrid.
+1
Wow, that's awesome :D
At which club did you play with him? JJK or Warkaus?
+1
^JJK. And yeah, it feels weird lol :p
+1
As usual, we have to remember his name for he'll terrorise the defenses in the future :P

Wow.
Looks like a big, strong player that's also quick with his feet as well as having finesse.

Loan him to Bolton.
You won't be sorry. :)

wow 63mil signing of James ! But what is going to happened to illaramendi, modric, xabi and isco ?? Selling dimaria is a big mistake IMO.
illara should be sold as i don't think he will be getting much time on pitch, also taking into account his form in last season.he may not find many large buyers but at least should be sent on for a loan.
Unsure if anyone knows the difference between a DM and an AM...
+12
Kroos and james likely to be starter. remaining one spot at CM for khedira, casemiro, xabi, illara, modric and isco to fight for ?? if u don't agree RM is fully loaded with Midfield then u must be crazy.

The idea of a set Starting XI is so 80s. You know the type you recite by memory. 11 good players won't win anything. A squad will.

Nowadays if you don't have a core group of 16-17 quality players that can come in at anytime and not have the team dip in quality is essential. Especially for a club like Real Madrid who wants to win everything.

For example: Coentrao. Hardly played last season but then Marcelo got injured and Coentrao was brought in and was key towards the end of the season.

Same for Isco. Started well. Got relegated to the bench in the second half of the season. But then due to injuries and suspensions was key in the first leg vs Bayern, key in CDR final vs Barcelona and was brought in CL final to save the day.

If I remember correctly Carlo tried to start off last season with a 4-2-3-1 but changed it to a 4-3-3 as the situation called for it. If Carlo does opt to use 4-2-3-1 it would make sense to have depth in the DM-CM role.

Like some other supporters have mentioned previously, I also think James could be used as a false 9 and contend with Benzema for time up front so he may not have to contend with the midfield group. I could be wrong but we could see Alonso getting a lot less game time this season and only being used in specific games that call for his expertise.

As for Casemiro, he was loaned out to Porto so he is out of the equation for now. At the moment it looks like Di Maria is the most likely to move. But anything could happen as squad depth is important with Madrid like Slim mentioned. We have also come to know especially in recent times that we need depth as we have been going through a phase of bad luck with injuries. Anyway, we shall see as there is something like 40 days left before the transfer window closes.
@Mt

No one but you of course.

We're European champions. A team that wants to win every trophy possible needs a lot of depth in the team like Slim said, which is why last year we did well. This year we of course want the league and Copa, plus the new tournaments we're entered into. At any given point a quality player should be able to come on and replace another quality player. It also gives Ancelotti more options in terms of styles, against Wesker opposition in the league.
+1
One variation of a 4-3-3 (2 advanced CM's and 1 DM):

* The order of option is taken into consideration. For example/ [Carvajal (Arbeloa, Nacho)]. Carvajal is the likely starter, and the following players who'd provide support are Arbeloa and then Nacho in said order.

* Line-ups/formations are made with the idea of Angel di Maria and Sami Khedira's departure.

RB: Carvajal (Arbeloa, Nacho)
RCB: Varane (Pepe, Nacho)
LCB: Ramos (Nacho)
LB: Marcelo (Coentrao, Nacho, Arbeloa)

DM: Alonso (Illarra)
RCM: Modric (Isco, Illarra)
LCM: Kroos (Isco, Illarra)

RW: Bale (James, Jese)
ST/SS/CF/F9: Benzema (James, Jese, Isco)
LW: Ronaldo (James, Jese, Isco)

Another variation of 4-3-3 with more emphasis in attack and 2 CM's:

RCM: Alonso (Illarra) - plays less advanced and more supportive of back-line.
LCM: Modric (Isco, Illarra)
CAM: Kroos/Isco (James)

The first option provides equitable time and opportunity to every player, especially when you consider every possible variable that would lead to the need of depth for the upcoming season. The second option looks weak, but is still a possibility against compact sides.

Slim makes a good point though. I expect a lot of rotations and tactical changes with each successive match.
+1
Modric was our most consistent player last season. i highly doubt he will be sitting on the bench.
I think the fact that Ronaldo isn't 100%, will help James a lot.
