Anyone following the Neymar rumours? Things just got hot. Twitter seriously just exploded. Rumours are that pretty much everything is done and just needs a signature from the player.

Not sure if this is purely for the Santos part of the player or the full transfer but the deal is 30 million unless Barca fails to win the CL in the next 3 seasons in which it will be 23 million. Along with that Neymar's contract will be set at 7 million per season.

edit: as of right now all of the big wigs are gathering at the Vila Belmiro to announce the deal.

THIS IS REAL PEOPLE!!!

Yup, was just about to post this. Looks like the transfer will be announced shortly as well. Great deal for us :)
I'm not going anywhere ;)

http://www.totalbarca.com/2013/news/alexis-sanchez-i-can-do-much-more/#more-134173

. “They want me to stay and I am very happy to do so. I hope to offer a lot more of myself next season. I am pleased with what I have managed to do so far, but I can do much more … I never give up and I hope to be able to things even better next year”.

Of course you can Alexis. Just get yourself a girlfriend, or two, and boost that confidence so you become the playa we know you can be!

If memory serves me right isnt there a certain tax that Barcelona has to pay for foreign players? Could this be a factor in Titos decisions? I remember TBS talking about some issue with taxes a while ago. Google provided nothing great so if someone could enlightten me that would be great.
Umm... I am not sure. I know that the tax rate goes up for foreigners once they have lived 5 years in Spain but that is player income. I don't know of any taxes for foreign players
I faintly remember there was a discussion around something like that but yeah I could have confused it with the one you just stated. Thanks for clarifying though :)
I don't think it answers your question Messiesta, but I believe Spain has increased taxes for professional sportsmen and -women a load, especially for footballers who only used to pay like 10% or something, whereas normal people making that much money in Spain paid about 40%.

It's likely that 'buying' a player from abroad is taxed too, probably more than it used to be. So imagine if we'd buy a €30m player, our club might have to pay another €15m in taxes too. And like I said, the wages are taxed heavily too these days. With good reason, because people earning a lot of money simply should pay a higher percentage of tax than people earning less.
I'm getting a feel that we're talking about "we buy neymar, hummels, and bla bla" and in the end of transfer window we'll remain empty handed.
:/

I'm more concerned about a Defender. I just want a good Defender and also not old and someone who fits in with Barca's style. Desperately Hummels. For me, it's fine if Barca don't buy a strikerm( Neymar, for example ).
Honestly these summer transfers are getting annoying. I personally would like if Hummels and Neymar came to the team. However there are so many problems going on with that and it's really sad. It would be better the sooner the players come because it would give them time to settle and get adjusted. If these transfers don't workout though im not too worried.

Hummels would be the perfect addition but Tito doesn't seem to think so. Even if we don't get Hummels im still confident in our defence next year. I feel like given the chance Bartra will step up to it. Some fans doubt Bartra because he was playing during the Bayern games, but fail to realize when he was on the pitch, statistically we had better defense. Even in the Bayern games his stats for steals, interceptions, etc were the best of the defenders. Im not sure why people were quick to put blame on him. He's the kind of defender we need for his leadership, strength in the air, and ability to read the game. He won the best defender in the whole second division for a reason, so why keep him on the bench? He shows potential and confidence, and I feel with a good half a season of experience he can become a great defender. Of course if we do happen to get a defender I would still like to see Bartra get a lot of time. Something tells me he can become a lot better than Pique.

Now Neymar would be an awesome buy if we land it. The problem is so many clubs want him and Santos demand so much money for him. As good as I think he is, 60 million sounds a bit overpriced to me. Maybe in the range of 35-45 million would be reasonable, and he has yet to prove himself in Europe. I think he can but 60 million is to high of an asking price. If we don't get Neymar I think we should definitely go for Di Maria. I don't even need to explain Di Maria as a winger because of the wonders he worked for madrid. Even after that they're contemplating selling him. Di Maria on the wing alongside Messi would be ridiculous. I would keep Pedro and Tello as well for the Barcelona DNA. Sadly this would mean Sanchez and Villa would be forced to leave.

To be honest Di Maria may be a better buy than Neymar. Di Maria is fast, hardworking, assists, scores, and he can shoot from distance. He is one of the top dribblers in the world. Plus he's Argentinian which leaves no doubt of fitting in with the attack.
Amen Yousif, I also would like to See Hummels and Neymar. I think Hummels solidifies our shaky defence and Neymar would collocate with Messi just perfectly. As for Di Maria, he is great, except he turns into a bit of a diver when the going gets tough, I would rather take Higuain instead if I had a choice but can't see RM let him go and I don't blame them.
+1
@MesQuUnClub Thanks haha. Im not sure about Higuain although I agree he is a better finisher than Di Maria, thats all he knows how to do though. Higuain is just a scorer and thats all. I feel like Barcelona was never designed for a player to be good at only one thing. Di Maria is unbelievable with his speed and assists. I do agree though he flops around a lot. However these days it seems like every team has a few of them including our Fabregas and Sanchez lol.

I just feel Di Maria is Madrids unsung hero. His dribbles through the field and outside of the foot passes created so much space for madrid forwards. The speed and ability on the ball is unrealistic though. I may not be right but I just feel thats another thing we're lacking.
+1
I agree to YousifSaid on Di Maria thingy! +1
Only downside is he isn`t consistent. But he works his butt off and I`d prefer it if he stayed, because with some competition, who knows, maybe he`ll play better. currently he has no challenge for his spot.
di maria is an amazing talent, but frustrating to watch at times. he is similar to nani in that sense, because his decision making can sometimes be poor.

but if you guys are after an out and out winger, why chase a madrid player? jesus navas seems to be open to a move away from sevilla, and he's certainly one of the best wingers in spain and a regular spain international.
Why not Hummels if it's possible to by Him? What's wrong with Tito? It's really irritating, some of His attitudes and decisions.
+2
If he doesn't come here he will go to Bayern, Madrid, or man utd, which is bad for this club since this teams are the threats for the UCL trophy.
This is an issue I am quite conflicted about. On the one hand Hummels is one of the best out there, and will vastly improve our defence. On the other hand, like Pique he is a libero in the mould of Beckenbauer, and they may not complement each other. So we have three options:

(A) Buy Hummels, and if there are problems, bench Pique (since Hummels > Pique)

(B) Try to buy Kompany/ Silva, and keep Hummels as a last resort. This makes sense to me, except remember we did this to Guiseppe Rossi and he got mighty pissed. So we might end up losing him.

(C) Don't buy Hummels, no matter what.

Which option would you choose and why?

Personally, I would choose B, because makjng Pique a bench player is something our mgmt does not have the balls for.
Hummels is just 24 and good. I think His presence at Barca's defense is Blessing. And He can be a reason for Pique to be motivated again.
All this nonsense that Hummels is too similar too Piqué really annoys me. Why? Because Subotic is the living proof two similar defenders aren't bad, but great. Subotic is the same as Hummels, but a bit less awesome. At Mainz Subo was the central defender who was the type Hummels is too, passing the ball accurately from the back while being a great defender but a big, rather slow one who is not agile either.

Mats is better because his defensive skills (reading the game, positioning, covering for others out of position, tackling, marking his man, ...) are even better and he's faster and more agile. And yet they are probably the best central defensive duo in the last three years of the whole world. The only reason I think it might not work at Barça is because we play a higher defensive line, so speed would be useful. But neither Piqué nor Puyol are exactly fast, are they? Puyol used to be in his twenties, but not anymore. And the Puyol-Piqué duo still works every time, even these days. Positioning yourself and reading the game is more important than acceleration and raw pace. If you're good at the first two things, you only need a bit of pace and acceleration to be faster to the ball than someone like David Luiz, who is not a good reader of the game, but is fast. Only when a through ball 15-20 metres behind the defence is played is it necessary to be fast too, and both Piqué and Hummels are fast enough to deal with that.

Seriously, it is nonsense that two similar defenders can't work together well. What's so bad about two defenders being great readers of the game, great passers, excellent at positioning themselves, strong and good in the air, technically gifted and having a tendency to go forward when it's needed? Neither Piqué nor Hummels go forward when they shouldn't, they're not morons. And when one goes forward, the other will stay at the back, of course. And like a few others mentioned, the confident presence of a great defender like Hummels might make Piqué great again as well. He needs a captain next to him because he's no leader himself.
+3
Totally what I want to say. I just want Tito to Understand this if really cares for the Club and ofcourse for his own sake too. Can't believe that He is the only reason Hummels not coming to Barca. What a Blessing Hummels can be.
Tito is saying that like Pique is the best defender out there. He has been below par ever since he got with "Waka Waka". Now the fact he Tito thinks he is similar is a good thing because it will push Pique to perform. Pique is only good when he has Puyol next to him. Bring in Hummels and forget Pique. Pair Hummels him with Bartra.
Monaco confirm signings of James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho ,for combined price of 70 million euros (confirmed on FC porto site)

http://www.asm-fc.com/en/news/team/agreement-with-fc-porto-for-moutinho-and-rodriguez-2

(If VV really don't wanna stay for another season ) I hope Monaco submit a bid for him & he agrees to play for them ;)

Even Kompany in rumored to be their target & there are few sings that this deal might go through or city might be willing to let him go ,

-First of all now its confirm that Monaco is Chelsea 2.0 (Russian billionaire owner ) & they mean business , they can pay insane money to city .

-2ndly (As pointed by Jeroen earlier) Kompany was left out of city's squad for last two games for no apparent reason (he seems fit enough , though i am not 100% sure )

-& then this interview , Soriano discuss about Kun speculation (which are almost non-existence) but didn't talk a word about Kompany , OK , interviewer might have never ask for kompany but his rumors are everywhere (earlier to barca and now to monaco) , Soriano should have addressed his situation if everything was OK

http://as.com/diarioas/2013/05/24/english/1369404114_195187.html

i think he will be the best suited solution to our defensive problems , along with being awesome defender he is amazing leader :) he and pique could easily make best pair & Also i would wanna chop every one in our management (negotiators & scouts) if he end up playing for Monaco or any other club (then city or Barcelona ) next season :/
Selling VV to Monaco for €25m and buying Kompany for a reduced price from City would both be great, but I think Kompany might've been benched because apparently he, Agüero and two other prominent players threatened to leave if Mancini was not replaced. They all felt he lost touch with his players and couldn't inspire the dressing room anymore.

So yeah, I hope that's not true, and that Vince insisted on becoming the heir of Puyol at Barça, but I'm afraid that scenario is less likely than the 'Mancini has to go' scenario.
If Barcelona can't sign PSG centre back Thiago Silva, Vilanova's "plan B" is using Barcelona full back Adriano as centre back. [sport]

Its rumours like this that piss the hell out of me. While I am not one to believe it, its frustrating that people think its even an option. Why on earth would you EVER consider this? Not doubting his ability but we have all seen this season how it worked out.

Why not something like, "promising young Bartra will be Titos plan B if they dont sign Thiago Silva".

Also while on the topic of CBs, what are your opinions of David Luiz?
+5
Sigh. Adriano can play anywhere well except in goal or in the heart of the defence. And David Luiz is erratic and is much better as a defensive midfielder. Neither of them are even half as good as what we should have in defence.

I swear that if we do not buy an actual central defender of a world class level, Tito doesn't know what defending is about and how important it is for the entire team. We'll head for another average season at best then.
+4
thats what i thought when we resigned adriano... what would happen to Montoya because alves and adriano are still within contract.. are we gonna stop producing him? tsk
+1
It's crazy how winning the league with 94 points with the possibility of going to 100 is seen as an average season for Barca now.
Why doesn't Barca look more into Serie-A for experienced defenders. I mean just from the top of my head:

- Chiellini (Natural captain)
- Bonucci (Strong, young and raw talent)
- Ranocchia (6'5", young and strong)
- Caceras (Versatile and a great defender, played from LM to CB for Juve)
- Lichsteiner (Great at attacking, better at defending)
- Benatia (Can play CB and RB)
- Zapata (Young and versatile)
- Astori (Was solid for Cagiliari)

There are even a few good goalkeeping options such as Handanovic, Marchetti or Di Sanctis.

I understand there might be complications and clauses attached with some of these players but there are enough promising and proven talent in Italy at a much cheaper price than acquiring players from sugar-daddy rich clubs.
+3
Regarding the original post, I think it is well observed that the management this season has been extremely poor at managing the players and the minutes. I'm pretty worried about these transfer rumours coming out. If any of it is true that means that our scouts are poor or Tito doesn't trust many of them. Of course I am probably just jumping the gun on that.

Caceres... Definite no. We bought him already and sold him. Don't see us going after him... again.

The best player for us from Serie A though is De Rossi, the only problem is that he might not have more than 3-4 years at the very top.
+1
@NandoTorres - Our 'mediocrity' this season doesn't stem from our league performances but rather our performances against world class opponents. We have not defeated Real Madrid once this season. We had a hard time facing Milan in San Siro. We barely scraped past PSG and I'm still suffering from physical and psychological trauma from our Bayern games.

We are great against weaker opposition but our rigid tactics, lack of penetration and defensive weaknesses against tougher opposition has left us exposed. Thats why we need to address these problems.

@TBS - Caceras really stepped up his game this season, especially when Chilieni and Barzagli were injured. He is still young with more potential to develop. I see him more of a conservative fullback than a central defender.

De Rossi is a legend, but like you implied, he is old and is too expensive. Plus if we buy another CDM and convert him into a defender I'm going to pull my hair out.
+1
well if for some reason we end up buying no defenders , then i would rather like to see both song & busi covering our fragile back four , with xavi playing same alone role which he plays for Spain and iniesta on wing (which i don't like much but still wont be that bad)
De Rossi doesn't need to really convert though. He already has done that role and has done it extremely well
Adriano playing CB? lol that has to be a joke. Hasn't Tito learned ANYTHING from this last season?

We put everyone, short of Messi, playing that CB position... WE NEED TO BUY A TRUE LION. Where is that clone of Puyol at?
+2
There is a saying "If you want to destroy a big thing, make a small man to control it". I think Tito will prove that is right.
I hope Tito is playing mind games with other teams/defenders to get them cheap. Otherwise, I'm confident he realizes that Defense was our big undoing this year. I don't mind us going with Bartra, but we need an extra body in case him or Pique gets hurt which happens a lot these days, please no Adriano no Song. Also, Our production upfront , needs to come from someone else not named Messi. Tello is a perfect fit. Neymar sign already dude
Hi

Happy Anniversary bud!
so Neymar 2013/14 project is fading away, Silva is extremely hard to sign at this point, no concrete info on which GK will we have for next season and Tito doesn't want Hummles........this is looking good!
any thoughts?
+3
Transfer window becomes tougher for barca.I fear barca may sign another 'song' to end their problems.
+2
Opening up our options is all we gotta do, Barca can;t just limit themselves to Neymar and Hummels/Silva for our FWD and CBs respectively, there are other players out there we can look into
When Neymars contract expires then Santos wont have a choice but its also his father and his owners that are making the transfer difficult. Tito had his chance to sign Silva but was to slow and now he is declining Hummels over his persistence of Silva.

We still have Marquinhos as an option for CB and Courtois as a G.K but seems Tito prefers Reina. Personally, seems to me everything to be in shambles right now with Thiagos situation as well.
Silva signing is more complicated than Neymar saga.PSG has no intention to sell him.So we wont get him below 40 mil.We cant offer him the salary he has at PSG.His agent recently said "Barca are too late for Silva".Why the hell Tito want 28 year old one for 40+ mil and high salary.

Marquinhos release clause is 25 mil.Barca wont pay that much money for a 19 year old defender. Also neither the player nor the club interested in a transfer.

Courtious is a young talent. There is no way chelase will sell him
If a player wishes to leave, then the club can do little to stop it. If they can't persuade him to stay, then at most, they can delay him leaving until his contract runs out. But most would rather cash in than have a discontent player on their roster. From a negotiating stand-point it makes sense to signal that you wish to keep whatever someone else wishes to buy. The PSG boss also said Ancelotti was staying.
Another incredibly important factor is money. The tax rates in France have increased. They were around the 40% before and has jumped up to 75%. Because of this, either Silva makes less money, or the more likely case, PSG cover that difference in taxes.

So maybe PSG aren't in a financial position to sell, the money which they spend on wages will certainly be a huge issue.
