I was watching arsenal play last night and it got me thinking - when was the last time I saw arsenal step on the field and the opponent was trembling with fear? Since the invincibles days I don't think any arsenal team has dominated play. They always seem like the nice guys of football where everybody knows they play well but can be bullied around by just about anybody.

I remember how Wenger was all about french footballers towards the end of 90s when France was producing really top class talent. Henry, Zidane, thuram, Viera, barthez, blanc, lizarazu, desailly, Pires, petit, trezeguet, anelka were the golden generation of French football who won the world cup and European championships. Wenger was all about french footballers then. He managed to get Viera, Pires, Henry who along with bergkamp formed the core of the invicibles squad. Arsenal played french style football which was delightfully skillful but physical enough to not get bullied around. Around the same time Spain had begun to produce amazing talent so Wenger made the switch to Spanish styled football. His teams have been called barcelona lite because of his attempt to play silky Spanish football.

Now there's nothing wrong about that but barcelona's success was built around defense. Our golden generation didn't have big tough players but they systematically dominated bigger players with technique and coordinated team effort. The problem with Wenger's teams is they don't do the basics right which made the Spanish style successful. Ever since Viera left arsenal Wenger has struggled with his defensive midfielder. He went from Viera to diaby to song to flaminI to arteta. None of the players after Viera strike fear in anyone. None of these players also hold the ball like our lanky busquets. So arsenal ends to playing tiki taka but gets physically dominated by bottom teams.

In the Chelsea game they needed the win but I didn't see them pushing hard to get the ball back. That's because Wenger has no idea how to set up defense with his Spanish styled team play. Then arsenal fans end up calling Chelsea football boring. Yes its much nicer to see arsenal play their version of tiki taka but it's not winning you anything if you make a half hearted effort at it. That's my off barca topic rant of the day :)

Arsenal have been 4 players away from the title for a while now. A new GK, a CB, a CDM and a world class striker. No offense to Giroud, who's doing really well for them but they will never win the league with just him.

I saw a bit on SkySports with Henry and he was spot on. Arsenal are also plagued with injuries all the time. Something needs to change there.. he said something like the last 55 games Arsenal have played after getting knocked out of CL, they have only lost 8. That's because they can't keep up with both CL and league + injuries.

It's literally a shame when a team like Chelsea wins the league comfortably and Arsenal aren't contending. Wenger needs to spend big this summer and challenge for the title. He's had enough time and they are virtually debt free and have the funds to do so (correct me if I'm wrong).

Bayern München [CL]
Real Sociedad [Liga]
Bayern München (A) [CL]
Atlético Madrid (A) [Liga]
Deportivo La Coruna [Liga]
Athletic Bilbao [Copa Final]
Final [CL]

One yellow away from suspension: Mathieu, Suárez

Real Madrid

UD Almeria [Liga] | Benzema,+ Bale,+ Modric+ Ramos,! Carvajal,!
Sevilla (A) [Liga] | Benzema,+ Modric+
Juventus (A) [CL] | Modric+
Valencia [Liga] | Modric+
Juventus [CL] | Modric+
Espanyol(A) [Liga] | Modric+
Getafe [Liga] | Modric+
Final [CL]

One yellow away from suspension: Modric, Ronaldo

The next 3 La Liga fixtures for Madrid could put us at ease against Atletico. The way I see it, if Madrid were to drop points against Sevilla or Valencia, the title is ours. It gives us breathing room for our match against Atleti.

Also, Ronaldo is 1 card away from suspension. How sweet would it be if he were to get a card against Almeria or Sevilla for a dive!

Meanwhile, Suarez and Mathieu should pick up yellow cards against Getafe, so that we have our full squad available against Moysey!
+2
Or.. pick up yellows against Cordoba since we'll need to rest someone between the Bayern games anyway! :)
Lord Moysey can't be taken lightly! Bayern will fully rest their squad now that they've won the league but our priorities are the league and CL, since they are both winnable.

I'd rather Suarez miss Cordoba than Sociedad.
Suarez should have taken a leaf out of Ramos book and gotten him yellow card against espanyol , then he would have missed the next match against getafe at camp nou

http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2015/04/27/11186682/barcelona-to-make-move-for-laporte-if-laporta-is-elected?ICID=OP

I know its goal.com but laporta and laporte :D would be dream signings ,

Laporte , pique , bartra :D

Btw just like few day back laporte signed with Mendes , so we have zero chance of buying him with current board & also both chelsea and united are interested in him , i wont mind if we offer Bilbao same amount which we offered to PSG for marquhinos and wont even mind if we let him play for bilbao until we are clear to register players .
Mendes ---> he's going to Chelsea.

Pity I would have really liked him to come to Barca
Mate mendes have issues with current rosell and current board but he is friends with laporta , they even had a meeting few months back , so its not entirely impossible .
Oh I didn't know that. I was just basing my judgement on the fact that he seems to be very cosy with Mourinho. Plus Abramovich is the kind of owner he likes selling to :)
Anyone else see anything wrong with how some of these football agents have so much power and inflate the market by making some players virtually impossible to sign?
So lahoz apologized to Espanyol for the offside error. Last year he disallowed messi's legit goal vs atletico which literally cost us la liga. di maria's goal in cdr was also offside. Where's our apology for costing us trophies? Its always okay to hose barcelona but god forbid if barca benefits from a bad decision and its uefalona and what not from fans and refs alike.

But but UEFALONA LALIGALONA :/

I'm watching Bein Sports (french) and Patrick Kluivert as pundit saying RM has dominated the match bahaha
Can't believe RM still won this comfortably. Stupid Celta going all out.
They're all trying to clear out their yellow cards.

Madrid is so lucky they aren't facing bayern. What would bayern do to their defense is unimaginable.
We lost 4-0 to atleti and then barcelona scrapped a 2-1 win in camp nou... last season was the same thing they said and in the end what we did to bayerns defense was the only thing "unimaginable"

Real madrid is inconsistent.. that's our problem and its what caused us to fall behind in the league
+9
Last year the crucial goals came unexpectedly from your defense while your framed front line wasted chances until the game was sealed.

The thing about winning a trophy is your opponents sit up and notice you after you win. on the other side when you win a trophy you tend to get complacent. Last year your team was more motivated and careful against the "best" team in the world. The previous year we were supposed to be the best team and got our assess handed to us. It's cyclical and it happens to most teams. But your defense has always been of much lower quality than your attack. I think it's gotten worse this year because Carlo doesn't play a proper dm anymore unless he's forced to.

You are behind in the league because carlo over used his resources. If other teams keep playing their best line up every game they will initially have good results but eventually they would run out of steam. That's the difference between managers like pep/mourinho and Carlo. Pep/mou are marathon runners. Carlo is a 100 m sprinter. The inconsistency comes out of using players like machines which is absolutely carlos doing.
+1
Actually last season Carlo even rotated too much maybe. We just hit a dip in form towards the end of the season, and bad luck with both Ronaldo and Bale missing most of the final games,Benzema just couldn't score goals without them and we lost the league.
Injuries.....

Inconsistency.

The positive's?- James is a winner. Future is bright for our starting 11. Varane is hitting top form. Lucky breaks drawing juve.

In the end I think it will be an el Classico cl final
Danny: You do have some great youngsters. One of things that both barca and madrid have to worry about is reliance on messi and cr7. They're doing the bulk of the scoring. Once they retire or slow down the goal scoring will reduce dramatically and someone has to pick up the slack. We are resting our hopes on neymar. you guys need a cr7 replacement because I don't see bale sticking around for too long.
franky, I agree. But I think if ronaldo leaves sooner it will be better for us
Its time for arbeloa to get a yellow card. It's already 2 mins past his arrival.
+4
Lol Arbeloa is a walking yellow
+3
They should just hand him a yellow on his way in. Then he's allowed 5 punches or elbows for free. I think he'd like that but he'll run through that allowance in no time.
Madrid playing a 5 man defense against celta. Lol

6 defenders now.
