Zenit St Petersburg

Well, not all the supporters are retards, racist and anti-gays.
I support this team from Spain, I like how they play and I'm an Administrator of the official Zenit Facebook site in Spanish, btw I meet too much fans in Facebook that aren't like you say.

BTW, it's club problem, they must punish these fans, for sure...I hope in a few years (when Zenit have a better team) they do it.

The problem is when we classify a minority as a majority, Familesso. I hear you loud and clear, and I understand a majority of your points. However, the flaw is where you say

"Zenit is a team that is supported by a majority of racists and anti gay fans".

This is far from the truth. I know 2 guys from st petersburg, whom I've been gaming with for over 3 years now in a war based game called World of Tanks. Both these guys, and their families (in a war background for generations), are Zenit supporters (in various degrees of support). These guys are really just shocked by the actions of a segment of the society that they (as members), have no control over. I know a whole bunch of them who celebrate when Hulk scores a goal, even in the midst of heated battle!

Were you happy when Scholes' car got mugged in Liverpool and the entire section of Liverpool supporters got blasted as thieves by certain segments of the media? I wasn't happy when the Tottenham riots took place right around the Spurs stadium and we got branded as rioters for a while by some propaganda spreading media. Remember how the British media constantly scared everyone off the Euros, claiming extreme racism? There were almost no racist incidents faced in the Euros, despite the scare-mongering of the media.

Where we need to be careful, is to make people be a bit more alert to the problems players like Hulk and Axel are now facing at Zenit, and the approach of a small segment of fans... and not let that turn into a political propaganda. We are, after all, a football highlights website that allows members of various clubs to have a chat and share opinions. Taking a political stance in a sensitive topic is not something we would like to be doing.

That said, we know where we stand on homophobia, racism or religion based abuse. We ban members without warning if they abuse another member. The change has to come from within, and we do our bit. What really needs to be done now, is for the Zenit board to take action against this minority.
