Diego repays faith with double to help Juventus sink Roma for perfect start
6 months ago

Brazilian midfielder Diego scored twice as Juventus displayed their Serie A title credentials with an impressive 3-1 win at Roma. Juve's €24.5m (£21.5m) summer signing from Werder Bremen, opened his Italian league account in the 25th minute only for Roma's Daniele de Rossi to equalise 10 minutes later.

Diego put Juve back in front in the 68th minute and another new signing, Felipe Melo, added a third in injury time as the Turin giants maintained their 100% start after two games to claim a four-way share of top spot.

Sampdoria lead the table on goal difference after a 3-1 defeat of Udinese in Genoa. Giampaolo Pazzini and Daniele Mannini had the home side in control by half-time. Antonio Di Natale pulled one back for the visitors but in-demand forward Antonio Cassano restored Sampdoria's two-goal advantage with seven minutes to go.

Defending champions Internazionale are fifth after crushing city rivals Milan 4-0. Milan were reduced to 10 men when their captain, Gennaro Gattuso was sent off. He was injured at the time and was playing on in pain after asking his manager, Leonardo, to be substituted. The game saw Inter coach José Mourinho give new signing Wesley Sneijder his debut after the Holland international completed a move from Real Madrid. First-half goals from Thiago Motta, Diego Milito and Maicon put Inter in total control, before Dejan Stankovic completed the rout midway through the second period.

Emiliano Moretti headed the winner on the stroke of half-time as Genoa won 1-0 at Atalanta to continue their impressive start to the campaign, while Lazio came from behind to win 2-1 at Chievo. Sergio Pellissier opened the scoring for the Flying Donkeys after 16 minutes but summer arrival Julio Cruz levelled from the penalty spot four minutes before the break. The Argentina striker struck the winner nine minutes into the second half for a Lazio side who preserved the advantage despite the 61st-minute sending-off of Emilson Cribari.

Parma have four points from two games after beating Catania 2-1. Daniele Galloppa and Marco Biagianti exchanged goals early on with Alberto Paloschi netting the winner after 47 minutes.

Fiorentina are also unbeaten with Stevan Jovetic's goal enough to see off Palermo. Napoli and Siena both bounced back from opening weekend defeats with wins. The prolific Cristiano Lucarelli scored for Livorno but they were beaten 3-1 as Napoli's Fabio Quagliarella scored twice and Marek Hamsik added another.

Siena won 3-1 at Cagliari, Emanuele Calaio scoring twice with Reginaldo adding a late third. Jeda's penalty was Cagliari's sole reply.
