Good game, I was pleased with the newbies, especially Schürrle and Dembélé. But Rode and Bartra look solid too! Also: Auba finally found his shooting boots it seems :)
Dembele was good but too often misplacing passes.Rode and Bartra were indeed solid, but I think this was more like a one-off for Auba where he actually is effective haha.

Though,Schmelzer on the other hand was pretty bad today, and I'd have no problem to see him being replaced by Guerreiro.I like that guy.And Castro didn't have a good match either...

And,finally,Schurrle surprised me.He may turn out to be a great replacement for Mikhi.

And....that said,I really didn't like the first half of the game.Knew Tuchel would sort them up during the break though :D

Who's is best with goal celebrations?
Not a bad group. We'll have to be careful on the road, but this is definitely win-able even though Madrid are the obvi favourites.
do-able.....i was hoping to avoid Madrid just because we have seen them so much over the last few UCL
Yeah, I wish we'd be paired with Barça for once. Just to see what my heart would do :D
Madrid is fine :D
Can't wait for our home fixture vs them on 27th Sept. (knowing they always melt here)

^ Don't jinx it!!

Although I agree, playing Madrid is starting to get kind of boring
good win for the pokal
Yeah. And typically,Auba misses 4 sitters(3 of them in the post)...

On the bright side,Mor is doing great and I already love Guerreiro :D

Though,I wonder -- why does Tuchel keep playing Ramos on wing? I mean come on,the guy has no clue how to play there,it's simply not his position. And not only that, but there is Pulisic that could get in instead of him as he could use some playing time (especially since he won't get to play much later in the season I guess).
yea i agree on ramos.....maybe because he is more expensive than Pulisic?
Season hasn't even started and another knee surgery for Durm :\

That guy has terrible luck.
So...a loss which was hard to swallow only for the great team performance*,although there are more positives to take than negatives.

PROS:

-Bartra was terrific*.I didn't expect the guy to play like this but damn,if he continues this level he'll prove to be an absolute bargain. His passing and build-up play today was on Hummels-top-form level. Also very solid, along with Sokratis.

-Rode was also great*.He expertly bossed the midfield and halted many counter-attacks.I'm now officially in no doubt that he'll be a hit :D

-Great team performance*.I loved how we squeezed Bayern so hard in the first half and we could've easily eased past them if only we finished 1/3 of our chances, damn.

-Passlack was also great*.We may be looking at Piszczek's successor here, and the guy's only 18 years old(yes,I know it's way too early to say this, but still)

CONS:

-Schmelzer.He was really off his usual self today.Offered little when attacking and was always a defensive liability whenever Bayern was on the ball. Can't wait to see Guerreiro, though.

-Our f*cking finishing.I can't stress enough how painful it is to miss so much chances in such a match.I hope Schurrle can relieve the pain a little, though :D

I probably missed some things but that's all I have on my mind at the moment. Also, congrats Bayern,it'll be an exciting season.

*until we conceded the goal
Yeah, we deserved more than a dry 0-2. I think we're looking solid, apart from the finishing as you mentioned.

Really happy to see Bartra doing so well too :)
Rode really impressed me, box to box!
Great game guys. This dortmund teams looks very strong and you were unlucky not to score in the first half. Dont think you should be disappointed, it was just supercup
I'm still disappointed not because of a lost trophy or game or something, but because of our as-always poor finishing.I don't know what is it with these guys, but they can't finish for their life. That's the main problem of our squad and I don't see how we can deal with it.I hope Schurrle can ease it a bit, though.
Boring draw against Sunderland. Still lots of work to do. Looks like defending set pieces is going to be just as big, if not an even bigger problem than it has been. We literally have no height at all in the centre of the park. Our only hope is Bender or Ginter, otherwise we're basically going to lose 100% of header battles. Doesn't look great.

Mor is looking good though. He was basically at the centre of every one of our attacks in the second half.
so uh how you guys lining up this season :P seems like you're pretty stacked up
My guess at Tuchel's first 11:

--------Auba--------
Reus---Gotze---Schurrle
----Weigl----Castro----
Guerreiro--Sokratis--Bartra--Piszczek
-------Burki--------

Dembele to start while Reus is still injured. I expect to see heavy rotation at the start of the season with Kagawa/Schmelzer/Durm/Ginter/Rode all getting good minutes. Mor, Pulisic, Merino will probably be reduced to substitute roles with maybe a chance of starting in the early rounds of the DFB Pokal. Same for Ramos, but that much everyone already knew. Leitner to be sold or loaned again. Same for Kuba (unfortunately). Passlack back to the reserves. The only one I have no idea about is Sahin. I can't see him being sold, but I also don't see him playing much.
-------Auba------
Reus---------Dembele
--- Götze -Castro----
-------- Rode ---------
Guer.--Papa--Bartra--piszu
-----------Bürki

in offense and midfield we've plenty of options. i think there will be a hell of rotation.

in some bundesliga matches i would like to see sth like this..

------Dembele------
Reus---Götze-- -Mor
--Weigl--Merino--
Guer.- Papa- Bartra Passlack
Bürki
im pretty delighted about our signings. espacially dembele and mor could be the little extra quality we need. in the near past i had the feeling that our players lost the ability to win dribblings and were passing all time. to create space i think, we need beside fast passing game also players, who can leave behind 1-3 players. thats what i missed last season. reus seemed to lost his faith and ability to dribble. thats why i am totally excited about dembele/mor.
hopefully the system doesn't change their way to play too much.
@DortmunderJung

You would pick Rode over Weigl as first choice?
Weigl was a revelation last season. He should absolutely be first choice the way I see it.
----------Auba-----------
Reus---Gotze---Dembele---Schurrle
----------Weigle---------
Schmeltzer--Papa--Bartra----Lukas
----------Burki--------
@OddSpud

Weigl is a decent player but still needs to improve his defense skills. I'm sure he will gain this in the future and will be a very important player. But atm I would pick Rode over Weigl. He really impressed me in all pre-season matches. beside his denfense qualitity he also has vision and is able to make through balls.

In particular we set up our team with offense players like reus, götze, auba, schürlle, kagawa, dembele and mor we need a strong man in front of our defense. otherwise we will be run over in critical moments. it's just my pov.

" But atm I would pick Rode over Weigl. He really impressed me in all pre-season matches..."

Sure.Let's pick Rode on the basis of 3 matches against not fully fit opposition. Not like Weigl had a great season or something,he was basically second-fiddle or a rotation squad player at most and wasn't really important for us :D

"we need a strong man in front of our defence..." The most surprising thing about Weigl last season was that he actually WAS very strong -- even at such a young age and being that skinny in comparison to the others,he fought for the ball and it was very very hard to take it off him.

I'd put Weigl over Rode.

And the ideal squad for me would be...

-------------------Auba----------

Reus-----------Gotze------------Dembele

-------Castro--------------Weigl--------

Guerr./Schme.--Bartra/Gint.-Sock-Piszczek

------------------Burki------------------
"Let's pick Rode on the basis of 3 matches against not fully fit opposition"

I judge Rode on the basis of his performance in Frankfurt and Bayern. In addition to that it was impressing which amount of impact he had in this pre-season matches - even at such little time with the squad.

Ah well, okay then...Can't argue against that since I really haven't seen him play too much (though I've seen him in some matches for Bayern). I could only argue that I'd surely make Weigl a guaranteed starter if the decision was up to me based on what I have seen from him.

We will see what happens. I'm not too sad if you're right about Weigl. I like this player very much!

Overall we're set up very good, also in depth. Maybe the defense is a little unsettled. But I'm looking forward to the new season.
I really hope Auba is sold next year. I wish he silent already been sold and was replaced.

What I thought about this:

Yeah,I thought what he said was disrespectful.Like, okay,we get it once,it was your childhood dream to join Real Madrid and you promised your grandfather. But to keep repeating and repeating it...

What I think about this now:

I'm not quite sure about what to think now -- after Auba posted the message on his Instagram.

His message is written in really poor English, which probably means he didn't waste any time to make sure it's well-written but simply rushed to write it.I'd say the reception to his interview wasn't very good.

He mentions 'transforming words' but I'm not sure how could anyone 'transform' something so concrete -- that his dream is Real and he promised his grandfather.

He also says "and in any interviews I was honest with you to say that it was my dream since I'm young but not more." What the heck? Anyways, thanks for the confusion...

Meh, if he only stays one more season and we get at least 60m for him next summer I probably won't complain.

And yea. I don't get why he needs to keep repeating this over and over again.
60m? How many times will you sell your main players for dirt cheap? Gungodan for £20m, Mkhi for.. 30m?

With the current trend in the markets you guys can easily get €80m+ for him!
In case you haven't noticed, all of those players that have left for "dirt cheap" only had 1 year remaining on their contracts. So it was either that or lose them for free a year later. That's how numbers work.

As for Auba, next year he'll be 28, not exactly young for a striker who's main asset is speed. I'm sure if we sold him now we could get €80m, but next summer that depends on how his season goes.
I'm not sure that we will sell Auba anytime soon to be honest.Atleast not it is true that he would only leave BVB for Real(they are pretty well stacked with strikers, having Benzema -- at about Auba's age and Morata who is much younger).

I can't see him leaving for clubs like Arsenal (Wenger won't spend),Chelsea (they have Costa and Batshuayi),Liverpool(same reason),Man Utd(same reason) and countless others.

In short,no one needs a striker.
Oh, did both of them have only 1 year remaining? I didn't know that, sorry. But then you guys deserve more money for quality players.. longer contracts maybe? :P
