THE Golden Boys kicked off their pre-season friendlies with the traditional annual encounter with fellow Hertfordshire outfit Boreham Wood and a five goal victory at Meadow Park. Striker Will Buckley scored his first hat-trick for the Hornets with Danny Graham and Stephen McGinn joining him on the scoresheet for the afternoon. The only player missing out on the action was new signing defender Tom Aldred who tweaked his calf muscle in training on Friday.

Watford were one of only four clubs given a 99 per cent rating by their fans when it comes to producing their own players. The Football League’s Supporters Survey for 2010 stated the Hornets, Crewe Alexandra, Southampton and Middlesbrough had received 99 per cent for their track record of developing young players. It is the third time the Football League have done the survey, after 2006 and 2008, and this year 36,822 fans from all 72 teams took part.
