Spurs Transfer windows last 3 seasons

Net Profit Spurs
14/15 +£3,750,000
13/14 +£9,800,000
12/13 +£1,300,000

Total + £14,850,000

Thats fantastic business.
next season would you guys be up for a "commissioner" type of fantasy football, someone we all trust, and we each pitch in $5? winner take all? there's 23 people in it so far...that's a lot of $$$.

i know some of you are disappointed in the decisions to let some players go but, keep your chin up, it took pocho a season and half to get southampton up and running. i think we have a better caliber of players than the one's he had to work with and he has more experience in the premier league now, which, will lead to hopefully "faster" results.

i hate international breaks =(
i apologize, in advance, for those that don't deal in american currency. not sure how many do and would be interested.
Kyle Walker's absence from training is due to an "abdominal injury" which he underwent surgery to correct. I would be surprised to see him match fit before the new year...
http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/walker-injury-update-020914/
And we only have naughton, back to putting a centre back out of position like last season with vert Ffs.
If we get 1 more injuries up front and maybe 2 in certain posisiotns up front and we are bollocksed
Diers done a good job for us at right back, looking forward to seeing Fazio slot in next to Jan.
From "Come On You Spurs" facebook page, our transfer window:

In: Federico Fazio (Sevilla, £8m), Ben Davies (Swansea City, £8m plus swap), Michel Vorm (Swansea City, £4.5m), Eric Dier (Sporting Lisbon, £4m), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders, £2.5m), Benjamin Stambouli (Montpellier, Undisclosed).

Out: Sandro (QPR £10M), Jake Livermore (Hull City, £8m), Iago Falque (Genoa, £4m), Michael Dawson (Hull City, £3.5m), Heurelho Gomes (Watford), Lawrence Vigouroux, Kevin Stewart (Both Liverpool), Darren McQueen (Ipswich Town), Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea City, swap), Grant Hall (Birmingham City, Loan), Alex Pritchard (Brentford, Loan), Kenny McEvoy (Peterborough United, Loan), Shaquile Coulthirst (Southend United, Loan), Jordan Archer (Northampton Town, Loan), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders, Loan), Ryan Fredericks (Middlesbrough, Loan), Zeki Fryers (Crystal Palace £3M, Lewis Holtby (Hamburg, Loan), Jonathan Obika (Swindow, Undisclosed).

Released: Giancarlo Gallifuoco, Cameron Lancaster, Roman Michael-Percil, Jonathan Miles.

******

Strictly speaking we signed 6 players but only 5 will be of any impact since Yedlin will come later. Crazy 'going out' list (even if most are loaned)..

The only true head-scratcher is Holtby leaving, maybe we placed an emergency recall in the contract if Eriksen gets injured(?) In any case I just wanna trust Poch.

If we did sell an ailing Beast for 10 million (I though it was at 8 mil) then I don't see why people are complaining, that is very good business.

COYS!
If Eriksen got injured Lamela would just slot in.
So what happens if eriksens get injured?
We put lamela there and ruin the possible fluidity that we could have acquired by then?makes no sense.
The three we're interchanging positions anyways. That's the whole point of Pochs attacking 4. And anyways, Lamela has always been described by many in the footballing community as a natural number 10 who was converted to the wings by Roma. I wouldn't be surprised if he excelled in that position.
+1
Exactly what Spursaussie3 has said. That is why Adebayor is perfect for Poch's system because he loves to roam around the areas and going wide normally any ways. In my opinion, it's also the reason why Eriksen has been slow to impress so far this season, he didn't get any pre-season practise and this high intensity game goes against how he normally plays, which is picking the ball up in space and picking a perfect pass. Once our players get more chemistry together we will be so hard to defend against. At the moment though a lot of the players are getting into each other's way.

Really enjoyed reading your contributions btw SA3, matches all my sentiments exactly.
So we never got Jay Rodriguez (or Schneiderlin for that matter), nor did we get Sadio Mane who many reported we had signed. In fact he went to Southampton..
Other slight disappointments are that Coulibaly (the next Drogba and what else) is sold back to Italian Serie B, Zeki Fryers (who supposedly we stole as United didn't want him at Spurs) has moved on to a more suitable level at Crystal Palace, Gylfi to Swansea, fan favourite Sandro sold to QPR which in the grand scheme of things doesn't bother me too much, however that Holtby again goes out on loan after a good pre-season I do find quite baffling.

If we don't get too many injuries we'll hopefully manage in the midfield department. Pochettino has got quite a bit to play around with there. If he makes all of them step up a level from last season we should be ok. To me the forward department is more of a worry, where Ade, Kane & Soldado all are a bit hit and miss. I also fully expect Ade to disappear to ACN in January/February.

Some of the players we've brought in I think we can be very happy about.
- Vorm, quite a pleasant surprise and excellent back-up.
- Dier, a massive surprise and one with a big future.
- Fazio, a player similar to what Poch was and hopefully a future leader for us.
- Stambouli, who I hadn't heard about but I'm told he has plenty of guts and desire, good tackler, great technique and good passer of the ball with both feet who's also got the brains to go with it. I'm curious, he'll yeah!
+2
I agree, I'm looking forward to seeing him in action. Sad some people have written him off already. All round a good transfer window, how we ever managed to accumulate that many midfielders is beyond me! Sandro was fine when the pace of the game suited him but got easily exposed by better midfielders (beginning to think Capoue falls into that category as well). Hopefully Stambouli will change that.

Possibility of a striker signing then in January?
+3
I can see this dude linking up well with Dembele, Chadli, Eriksen, Lamela, Ade, Soldado...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ADSDRsFYocY
Yeah Kalopsia, I think you're right. Sandro was falling behind on pace (and technique) and that's also my question regarding Capoue after the Liverpool game. And it might make sense chasing a new striker in January.
+1
To take a trip down memory lane it's not far from WHL to Lofthus Road - to watch Harry, Jenas, Caulker, Taarabt, Zamora, Sandro & Kranjcar.
Whatever happened with Benny, did he just retire from football??
I fully expect us to revisit the Jay Rod situation in January. He is stalling on a new contract, isn't he? Should be fit with gametime under his belt by Jan.
As far as Schneiderlin goes, I can't see that deal happening. His stock will rise further(as he will continue to score more goals in a far more offensive role than last season) and we wouldn't bother going back in for him.
+1
I think our window has been good. But why I'm so annoyed at the Sandro sale is because I find it utterly pointless. If Sandro wanted to leave to gain minutes on the pitch then I would be fine with that. But if we are going to take the Europa League seriously I see no reason why Sandro couldn't have been a pivotal figure in these games.

To be clear, I am behind Stambouli + Poch 100%. If he can produce straight away then fantastic. But realistically, I see yet ANOTHER player we must be patient with, give him games, ease his way in... Which is the main reason why I find it so pointless!

Yeah, yeah, yeah Sandro had lost a bit of his edge. But he is 25 FFS! He's got time, he aint deadweight! I was sooooooo willing to see what Sandro could achieve this season, be it in the Europa or the PL. And I am sure he would have been happy with the fight for being 1st/2nd choice.

I agree with the sigs sale, even though he is killing it there. Never knew he liked to roam so much!

I'm gunna call it now and say - any time I see Paulinho on the pitch this season I will think of Holtby.

As always, I love being wrong.
Poch will be judged on how we perform. He has to be given the chance to use the squad and build the team as he best can. Let's support him and the team. What we've seen so far has looked good but we weren't ready for Liverpool. Now we need to get back to our winning ways at Sunderland.
Seems to have good feet, loves a slide tackle by looks of it. I take it he's going to be our "budget schneiderlin" then?
Most definitely Andy, had we gotten Schneiderlin, he would have slotted in the team right away with Capoue/Bentaleb playing cups and Europa pushing him for #1. With Stambouli though it seems he is going to be the one in the cups and Europa and pushing Capoue + Bentaleb.
How can selling 2 of our more naturally creative midfielders in Siggs and Holtby and not replacing them be considered anything other than getting weaker, particularly from a depth point of view?
All we seem to have now is like for like subs. If we start with CM 2 of Capoue and Bentaleb and need a goal, who do we bring on? Dembelé, Paulie, Stromboli? I don't see that radically changing the team setup.
Struggling to see who we can bring on for a plan B other than just lumping on another striker, and Kane is never guaranteed a goal. Before the window closed we had creative options to unlock a defence, Holtby and Siggs. If Eriksen, Lamela, chadli are off their game (very likely to happen at some stage - see QPR) then there is little else.

Our options have been limited, that seems obvious. I wouldn't mind as much if he was clearing out a packed midfield to make way for our youthies to get their chance, but they've been shipped out as well...then he brings in another CDM!

Honestly, after some deliberation I think Wellbeck could have been a good signing. He's a great option, versatile, pacey, attacking threat, and most importantly GREAT at the high press. Looking at it rationally, you have to say Arsenal have a better chance of scoring goals with him in the team/squad, and he could have done that for us. Ah well.

MoPo's system had better work otherwise I can see us struggling to score enough again - just like last year. Good luck to the boys..COYS.
Apparently, saying Sandro is a good player is claiming we're delusional. Yet, Capoue and Lamela can come back from a season long injury without a question raised and are automatic starters. Whoop de doo.

We've had shitload of problems last season getting the ball forward from midfield to attack. What do we do? Sell Siggs and Holtby, two of the depth players who can actually spot a pass and atleast attempt a forward pass. As you mention, one injury and we're down to Paulinho/Bentaleb - Dembele - Capoue. Where is the forward pass or link up play coming from? Stromboli? Has anyone seen the guy play? Everyone who I know who watches League One is just having a laugh because the guy wasn't even a regular for Montpellier until the last few months. He's expected to be better than Sandro? b******s.

Very pissed off with this window. Very.
Have to agree wholely, there is no competition for eriksens so when he's off his game and gets dropped we have to shuffle the pack, and this is without injuries, once ade goes to the AFCON then we are left with Kane and soldado to cope with league and cup.also the fact that Europa gives you a CL spot must have gone over pochs head cos this squad won't cope with the rigours of Europa on a Thursday all season, especially after we loaned out our decent youngsters, really really dissapoinyed and I'm sure Poch is too
+1
Mag, bro, ya just had to show up AFTER I'd decided to try to be pragmatic about the results of the annual summer squad jenga games, didn't ya? LOL

Most people here who are fine with losing Sandro, Siggy, and Holtby probably never rated them, or used to, but not anymore. I'm still angry about it, and remain convinced that we'll eventually regret those transfers come December.

That said, I'm happy that there was at least an effort to improve the defence. You just can't have shitty backline if you have Top 4 aspirations, especially with the strikers we have. Sadly, we knew the cost of that would be the midfield depth.

We lost a fair amount of "heart" in the squad this window.
Indeed chaps, and what with MoPo 's high intensity pressing our creative forward players are going to be worked harder than ever, so when they tire in the final 20 mins were not going to have that creative spark waiting to come on and impress.
I'm not mad just thoroughly disappointed.
Great news about our defence improving (still only on paper, don't forget) but I think we've shot ourselves in the foot going forward.

Get the feeling we could have got someone like Wellbeck - but MoPo would probably rather wait til January and see how JRod is doing.

The whole scenario seems like all eggs in one basket.
Mags, I don't think it's correct that Stambouli wasn't a regular with Montpellier until the last few months. In four seasons he played 112 league games, played his part in them winning the 2012 Ligue 1 title (alongside the likes of Giroud) and last season played 37 of 38 league games and became vice-captain.
As much as I cheered for us to sign Sandro four years ago, I have my doubts that he would have seen that much playtime this season.

PS. In he same four years Stambouli clocked 112 league games Sandro played 81 times for us.
+3
So everybody else strengthened this window and despite the loss to Liverpool we have decided to weaken ourselves on the last day. I guess it's because of the new stadium. It's going to go like this for quite a while probably.
Weren't there rumours a while back saying that the stadium budget is already taken care of?

Either way, it's sad to see 3 of our most passionate players, albeit squad players, gone.
Again how have we weakend ourselves? I think we've had a great transfer window. Everything we've lost we've retained in depth with the new signings.
I'm also quite happy with the transfer window activity. It would've been nice to have a 20-goal/season striker, but strikers are often very expensive risks.

Whether the squad has been weakened or strengthened remains to be seen. I'm still pissed at Siggy being sold and Holtby being loaned out, but I'll reserve my judgement for at least until December.
This seems a little hyperbolic kneejerk, but I understand being sad and frustrated at saying goodbye to Sandro and Holtby. The sad fact, however, is that neither were going to get minutes because they were either unsuited to the way we want to play (Sandro) or going to be way down on the depth chart (Holtby).

As much as I love Sandro, he's got one setting and that's "destroy." Aside from a rocket powered shot every 30 games, he doesn't offer much going forward. We're looking at our DM to cut off attacks and immediately initiate the counter, which Capoue has been doing quite excellently. We don't know how Sandro's recovery has really been going as he can't seem to string together a run of games (either through selection or fitness, I don't know). His fitness is a huge concern. Also, I'm going to throw down money in guessing that Stombouli (I will never spell this right) is going to be cover for that DM spot, rather than out and out taking the CM spot. I see Dembele/Bentaleb being in that center role, but I could be mistaken.

Holtby is tough to see go as we all feel he never really hit his stride at Tottenham. Although last year was a dumpster fire at spurs, he's had opportunity with 3 different managers over 1.5 seasons (plus this preseason), and has always been seen as superfluous. He has great hustle and great hair and all of us love him. Luckily, it's a loan move - so if he impresses there is a good chance he could end up back here, fighting for a spot.

I honestly don't think we've weakened ourselves by letting go two - very loveable- fringe players. We've shored up our defense and have brought in a back up keeper who isn't 50 (sorry, Brad)... I would've loved a sexy goalscoring LW, but I'm content to give Poche some time with the squad first. Honestly, of the Magnificent Seven brought in last year, we really don't know what any of them are truly capable, even Eriksen. Let's pour one out for those we love who have left, but also support who we have now.
+5
We've let go Sandro and Holtby and brought in a bit part player from league one. There's no f*****g way that he is is a better option than Sandro. If game time or injuries were the concern, why not just keep things the way they are? Holtby plays a lot of Europa league, as would Sandro. You don't need to sell a player (or loan them) the first time they say "I'd like to play more".

We've weakened our depth considerably. How is Paulinho considered a better player in starting a counter either at CM or CDM? The guy can barely pass the ball. Infact, I'll go as far as saying we sold Sandro because we failed to shift Paulinho. This window was a failure simply because of these two player sell outs. We needed someone to hound the ball, and there's no better person to do that than Holtby. Now we've got only Eriksen for the CAM spot, and he's someone I actually see struggling in our formation. I suppose we're going to see Lamela as our #10 before the end of the year.

We don't build a team by taking out two of the guys who always are there to help out a teammate when they're down. Sandro always bonded with those who had a tough time with either injuries or being left out. That helped player morale a lot. Holtby was one of the reasons Lamela and Soldado started this season with a smile instead of looking over their shoulders every move. The entire pre-season was about integrating them into the team.

All this talk about building a team, and you take out two central parts of it. Rubbish and absolutely ridiculous. Naughton will go in December, and who do we have left from when I started watching the club? Frank says it perfectly below. Of the starters, only Lennon and Walker are players left from the team that managed to break in to the CL. I don't even have an emotional attachment to most of the players anymore. Bah. What a waste.

+1
Thoughts on the window: (only considering those in 1st team squad)

Goalkeeper: Vorm in.
Got a solid back-up(assuming he will ever make the bench)

Defence: Dawson out; Dier, Davies, Fazio, Yedlin? in.
Strengthened our defence? Yes(I guess), we have made the signings to give ourselves a better set-up defensively IMO.

Midfield: Siggy, Sandro, Holtby out; Stambouli in.
In terms of quality, we haven't added ANYTHING. What we have done instead is reduce our midfield heavy squad and streamlined it. It also suggests that last year's signings get a clean slate and a fresh start and that Bentaleb is well and truly here to stay. I don't know much about Stambouli but it suggests we are moving from a squad of too much competition(leading to unhappy squad) to a more streamlined picking order.

Forwards: As we were
Ade is the first choice presently. Soldado gets another year to prove his worth. Personally, I am delighted with this. I want to see Kane given a proper chance to establish himself. I think he will. :)

CONCLUSION:
The much maligned magnificent 7 are here to stay. I hope they repay the faith with performances worthy of what they were originally bought for. Goals(Soldado), discipline(Vlad), creativity(Chadli) and ofcourse, the basic requirement of commitment(I am looking at you, Paulinho).

Eriksen, Capoue and Lamela(maybe not 35m pound worth of it) have gone some way in assuring us that we weren't exactly buying poorly last season. Time for the rest of the lot to show up and deliver. Can't be worse than last season ;)
+1
@Mag mate, what did you expect? That these guys go on playing football for as long as you were a Tottenham supporter?

Sure, it's sad two great club favourites have gone. But don't let your delusion of feelings for them get in the way of the practical reasons as to why they've likely left. Holtby has had 3 managers over the course of a year and a half since coming here. That's including a full preseason with Poch this time round (which I thought he looked good in). But each time, he never established himself as a first team starter. That's that. You said it yourself: he was number 10 cover. I really think this is less us wanting to get rid of him, and more we couldn't supply his desire for first team football in the PL. Nobody wants to just play in cup competitions or in case someone gets injured. They want to be first choice, especially at 23 years old when your development is key. Eriksen was never gonna give Holtby a lookin as long as he was fit. I have no ill feeling towards him for wanting to get some playing time, nor do I reckon management does either.

And can we stop with the nostalgic Sandro love. I'm not talking about the love for him as a guy: he was a champion. I'm talking this irrational belief that he is still one of the best CDMs in the world. Now I'm sure I'm over exaggerating your personal belief, but face it: he is not anywhere near, anytime soon his old form. If he gets injured, which is likely, we are suddenly down to one competent DM. If Capoue gets injured, we would have been down to an injury probe destroyer who can barely keep up in Pochs system. With Stambouli in, that eliminates that worry. And what's with the irrational judgment of Stambouli? Wait to see the guy play for us a few times before judging his ability to play in Pochs team.

I'd say to everyone, CALM DOWN. We have lost two fan favourites and slight depth. Not two key starters. Grief, but don't go delusional.
+3
Where in my post have I said Sandro is a world class CDM? Kinda ridiculous to tell me that I'm over exaggerating when you have decided to do that on my behalf. I'm not delusional, but I don't know this team I'm supposed to be supporting. Don't give me crap about how I expect players to remain forever. No team with sense chops and changes this much.

Meh. I'll be less involved with the club.
Sigh. I said "I'm sure I'm over exaggerating your belief". Meaning I'm sure YOU don't think he is a world class cdm or the be all and end all, but some people on here have stated that. My phrasing wasn't the best. But either way, to say Stambouli is no where near better is unfair. Wait to see Stambouli play a few games in our system (which according to many people, he is tailor made for) before throwing him aside like that. At least, that's what I recommend. Do what you want.

And mate, a lot of self sustaining teams chop and change like this. A lot. We don't have the money to hold on to a huge squad of first team starters like man city or Chelsea.

And it's not fair of us to, "hey, Holtby and Sandro. You guys are hilarious and a good dressing room energy. STAY! Of course, you're not good or fit enough to play in the first team in the Premier League, which is why you're in England in the first place, so we'll let you play in league cup and Europa against mostly crappy competition in f**k off weird places. Maybe if the guy who we think is better than you gets injured, you can join in on the fun, but that's a big maybe! You're cool with that, right buddy?"

You'll be less involved with the squad? Wow. Sound like one of the boo boys to me. Whatever happened to no player is bigger than the club? But fair, you're entitled to your own actions and level of support.
Boo boys? Do you even have an inkling of what you're saying? When have I at any point booed the club during a game? Just because I'm unhappy about something that you don't give a s**t about, doensn't turn me into a boo boy.

A player is never bigger than the club. But we didn't lose one player. We lost an entire bunch. There is something known as a club's identity. THAT has changed. That is what I'm annoyed about. I don't have the same emotional attachment to the club as I once did. Is that so difficult to comprehend? Apparently it is. I should be rolling out welcome mats for every player we sign or I get classified as a plastic. Honestly, this is f*****g ridiculous. Whatever. Couldn't give a toss.
+1
How many players on the current roster do you think even knew about the club Tottenham Hotspur before 3 seasons ago?

Friedel, Rose, Kane, Walker, Naughton, Lennon, Townsend, Nabil . . . . . . . then?

Not even going to talk about half the players above have been listed for a move out this window
+2
How is that relevant? There here now so let's get behind them! COYS!
+1
lol what?

We're Tottenham Hotspur, dood. Everyone knows us ;D
+1
Bentaleb was in the youth squad, Kane was out on loan, Rose was out on loan. Naughton was out on loan 3 years ago. Townsend was on loan. I don't think it is about knowing the club, but about players we have left from the squad back then. Lennon and Walker are the only ones left.

I've lost all emotional attachment to the team I used to love to follow. I see no difference now to a game of fifa and what our squad is at the moment.
Teams change over time that's the way it goes. we will have this crop for a while and get attached to them then they will either drop in form and leave or get bought by Real Madrid.
Sandro - "I'd like to thank Tottenham Hotspur for everything they've done for me. Spurs has been my home since I moved to England and I loved every minute of my time there. To the fans; I'll always have a special relationship with you and can't begin to express how much your support has meant to me, particularly in tough times when I was injured."
+3
My outrage is turning to sadness as I realise this is ACTUALLY happening.
What the actual f**k are you f*****g kidding me Sandro is gone? f**k this s**t we're f****d.
Sandro hasn't been in the team for over a year. DM is hardly what's holding our team back - if anything it's our goalscorers' finding form.
