Loads of tweets about Dier playing as holding mid in training even in the USA trip as a holding mid alongside Bentaleb.
Looks like Vlads gone too

The way he flicked it over that guy's head and laid the ball off that night was ridiculous..
Which night? Oh, I'm assuming you meant he did something good for us.
That was memorable... But I've never condoned centre backs trying to trick their way out. A couple of inches off and we'd have conceded. It is why a lot of people bite off fazios head.

Ah well. Adios Vlad. Hope it works for you in Italy.
Suraj mate, in response to your comments about Dembele, here's an article that we both will 100% agree with. An excellently written piece

Nice one Paddy.

Dembele is vastly underrated in how he creates space and distributes the ball to the wings. That's his strength. He unleashes a Bale or a Lennon from midfield, sometimes even passing across the pitch. What he can't do well enough, is pass forwards consistently. With us playing such narrow formations, he struggled with where he needed to distribute the ball. Hoping with the emergence of Rose and the signing of Trippier, he'll begin to rekindle the form he once had. I haven't given up hope on him as yet.
Good read. Dembele does seem like the BAE type minus the juvenile tweets and LOLs.

You're spot on, Mag. That narrow formation + high defensive line can get so cramped and congested it's like staring at a can of sardines.

I can hardly blame Dembele for not making enough forward passes when the center's so crowded. But now that Eriksen, Chadli, and Lamela have had ample time playing together they should at least be better at creating space and not bump into each other like the three stooges.
Pretty balanced article, Paddy. There can never be a middle-ground with him though. He is either the most talented or most frustrating player to watch, depending on who you're. :D
We seem to be looking to fix the defensive frailties at first opportunity. Hopeful that we'll fix the midfield width problem as well. Should see a drastic improvement in a few players if we do that.

Well then.
We will 100% buy a striker if this deal goes through - can't see us with only Soldado as striker cover.
+2
*fingers crossed* 100k off the wage bill? :D

That said, I don't expect to buy two strikers. There isn't that much quality in the market, and most articles seem to be rehashed FM targets. Werner is prime example of that. He scored 3 goals and assisted one in 1625 minutes, with a pass percentage of 70! Why we should import some random kid while we have a couple of promising players in the academy is beyond me.

Unless we have a shift in tactics, one striker and a CDM are priority targets.
Mag we want Werner cos he is only 19 and considered the best striker in the whole German under 21 setup. Germany has one of the very best youth teams in the world and any one of the starting players on that team would be worth considering. World class potential on this kid!!!

He has been prolific at all youth levels for Germany averaging almost a goal a game. This is not a player we should blink before signing as there are literally a dozen clubs who would walk over broken glass to sign one of the best teenage strikers in world football.

I've been saying how we need an experienced striker to help Kane but I also said we need a young striker who can score from out wide. In Werner we have the perfect partner and deputy for Kane. He is not as flexible as Berahino atm but will be better than him by the same age imo.

He is about 6 foot with a fully grown mans body yet he is still growing. He is very quick and seems to not lose the pace with the ball at his feet. He is also a clinical finisher in the same mold as Kane. His passing is not great and he needs to work on his decision making but has the work rate and raw talent for Poch to fashion the player with his ethos into a world class player. Not just a good player like Berahino will be but a top level career senior German international that we can build a team around.

We can't afford to buy ready made world class players. We need to sign them when they are young and yet to reach the true potential. We also need to sign them when they are going to be allowed game time and not just warming our bench. If we can indeed move Ade and Soldado then there will be no better time to sign a hungry young starlet in search of minutes on the pitch.
Holtby was amazing at u21 level and captained the side. Closer to home, a whole bunch of players score for fun in youth levels and struggle to get going in competitive fixtures. Our U21s are league one level, some championship at best.

Werner struggled in the bundesliga. His return is actually over twice as bad as Soldado in minutes per goal. 3 goals 1 assist in 1600+ minutes. In bundesliga. His turnover ratio was woeful and kept giving the ball away. There genuinely is nothing to suggest that he is remotely world class. Sorry Hat, strongly disagree. He may have potential, but will take more than a few years to get there. Some others we were linked to like Martial or Njie, they are much closer to the kind of level we look for in a third striker /backup winger role that Werner fits into.
Apparently we bid 8.5m for Schalke's Leroy Sane - have a look at his goal in last year's CL against Real Madrid, quite outstanding. He's 19.
He just signed a new contract last week. Makes no sense to bid for him. :/
Yeah, probably just tabloid talk.
Sounds like a weird story in every angle.
Good chance Adebayor will remain a Spurs player, now that Aston Villa have signed Ayew. Let's hope he will step up because Kane won't be enough fire power. I'm still clinging onto the slim hope that we'll bring in Berahino...
+1
He'll play for a month only to have some more bad juju coming at him before airing some more dirty laundry into the press. Villa will need more than Jordan Ayew.. he's not the kind of striker for the EPL. A 1 year loan deal for Adebayor might get the best out of him for Sherwood while Ayew settles down. Works for both teams.

Berahino would be perfect in my books. He's not going to set the league on fire, but he'll be playing whenever he's called upon as Kane's deputy. Already knows a bunch of people through U21 England duty. This leaves Kane as our main striker (he deserves that after last year's efforts), and a striker who's willing to learn and develop without feeling that he's being cut down on minutes too much for a year or two.

Neither Kane nor Berahino are injury prone, and if worst comes to worst, we'll probably look to the academy. Personally, I want to be rid of both Adebayor and Soldado. They are too divisive and expensive to be a second/third option.
I'm sure Berahino wouldn't come just to be a Kane back-up. I think his movement and his finishing is extremely decent, and will be interesting to see how he'd blossom in a bigger team than WBA. He's said he tries to emulate Eto'o, Drogba and Defoe, and tbh he reminds me of a young (though taller) Defoe.
+1
Adebayor is training with the youth team- him, along with Lennon, have no future at Spurs. I expect him to leave this window.
West Brom tweeted they have received no bids.

I think Villa still want Ade. They were too Benteke dependent & 4-4-Tim needs atleast 2 good(theoretically) strikers.
With just Kane and Berahino, both would be able to get a good 25 games under their belt with some rotation and cup games. The number decreases drastically with 3 players in the mix, with just one striker being played. That wouldn't appeal to anyone, imo. Liverpool will struggle to keep their players happy this year.
I don't think the acquisition of Ayew means anything in relation to the Adebayor deal. Adebayor is a perfect replacement for Benteke, a strong lone striker who can score goals and bring other players into the game. Ayew is fast and strong, but young and more versatile with abilities to play on the wing rather than just lone ST.

Also, there's an apparent photo of Adebayor at the Aston Villa training ground earlier today.
hello everyone its been a while since i last wrote something on the tottenham home page but our clubs are being linked once more, so i have returned lol. however, this time my club is in as the buyer and u guys are the ones selling lol. so reports of an okay source (so they have gotten a few things right but they have also gotten a few things wrong, like every news team ever) are linking my fc porto with your lamela and apparently its on a one year loan with a buy out clause of 7.5 mil euros. i do follow the EPL so i am aware that lamela is still having trouble with adapting to england and its culture, which may indicate that he is closer to a move away from the EPL; in addition, he does have a hefty salary but you guy did pay 30 mil for him which imo was ridiculous (but thats not the topic). so would those numbers be sufficient ? a loan could increase his market value and if porto doesnt keep him in the end that could be seen as a profit but i don't see porto returning a player that we could sell for a much larger price tag. but keeping him could also lower his value even more if he doesnt play so it can be a lose lose situation. or he could just become his best self again but idk if that could happen in england. let me know what you guys think.

oh and i know you guys love ur link and this one is an actual news team on tv, so its a segment on the daily news about all the transfers (like transfer dead line day), so here is the video:

http://tviplayer.iol.pt/programa/mais-transferencias/556a52e70cf2246ee9d302c9/episodio/t1e102
There's no chance of this happening Luso. We don't have too many attacking players at the moment, and Lamela's just coming out of his shell. Loaning him would be absolutely weird.

But then, after loaning him, 7.5 mil Euros for a guy with 3 years on his contract? That is laugh worthy. He's even back in the Argentina set up, because he's slowly getting back his confidence. There's no chance in the world someone like Levy would sanction a 22.5 million loss on a player who's showing signs of reaching the potential that we paid for, with 3 years on contract. Even if he's only a backup, he's an excellent backup and recouping 5 million pounds for him on a sale would imply we'd need to spend even more to pull in another backup.

That rumour is a non starter bud. 0% probability.
+5
Mag summed it up quite well. This will never happen.
Luso, we are asking 11m pounds for Soldado, apparently.

We Sold Capoue, Stambouli & Paulinho for well over the price that you(I mean the newspaper :P) is quoting.

Absolutely ZERO chance of this happening.

Hello guys, I was wondering if you guys would like daily transfer stuff every now and then?
I personally enjoy reading it, but it would be better to see what others think, since we are a small-ish group(less posts per day), good chance it might look a bit like spam, from time to time.

Thoughts, others?
I understand, thanks!
I'd rather frequent other forums to read it, and keep this here Tottenham related, like what I've been previously. But great effort in keeping up to date with it all, YG
I only check this forum so i would appreciate the transfer updates
It might look like spam, but even when I only check this forum once every few days, I only ever read 1 or 2 new posts. It does get quite quiet in here particularly.

I agree with Hatmundo, I would appreciate some transfer updates. Any increase in posts on this forum will surely promote more discussion so I can't see anything wrong with it.
If it's only like Spurs related, then I think FootballDoc got it. lol
Right lads, I know its early, but what team shall we see vs United? (assuming we buy no-one else)

Personally, this is the team that I think could beat the reds:

------------------------Lloris-----------------------------
-Walker---------Dier-----------------Verty-------------Rose
------------------Dembele----Bentaleb----------------------
-Lamela-----------------Eriksen---------------------Chadli-
-------------------------Kane------------------------------

Dier and Walker deserve the nod. Neither have done anything to warrant being dropped before Alderweireld and Trippier have a chance to prove themselves.

Townsend is out for 3 weeks, so Lamela on the right. Dembele HAS to start in this game. He showed last season what he can do in big games, and was instrumental in our home wins against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Any opposition?
+1
----------Lloris

Trippier-Toby-Vert-Davies

Walker-Dier-Bentaleb-Rose

---------Eriksen

----------Kane

Looking at our pre-season squad, I fancy this line-up.
Super-fast players on the counter. Eriksen & Kane to handle the scoring like last season. :D

On a serious note, I think the team you made selects itself.
+1
I tend to disagree with the back four, I'm afraid.

Lloris

Trippier // Alderwireld // Vertonghen // Rose

Bentaleb // Dembele

Lamela // Eriksen // Chadli

Kane

Don't want Walker up against the pace of Young and Depay; and we didn't buy Alderweireld for 11.5m for him to sit on the bench. Dier might have potential but CB's need to click with eachother to form a solid partnership, Dier and Vert don't do that for me. Alderwireld and Vertonghen are much more likely to become a solid foundation.
I'd put forth the same team as Doc, only swap Dembele to RCB and Bentaleb to LCB, their natural positions. Walker might harshly get a drop by me, but that's tactical. United have a weak defense which can be exploited with crosses. With Dembele and Bentaleb sitting back a little, we can afford Trippier and Rose chances to move forward and cross like crazy for Chadli and Kane, with Lamela and Eriksen with the ball playing duties.

Out of possession:

-------------------Lloris-------------

Trippier-----Alderwireld---- Vert-----Rose

-----------Dembele-------Bentaleb---------

----Lamela---------Eriksen----------Chadli

-----------------Kane------------------

In possession:

----------------------Lloris--------------

--------Alderwireld---------------------Vert-------------

-------------Dembele--------------Bentaleb---------------

Trippier-----------------------------------------------Rose

--------------------Lamela----------Eriksen-------------

-------------Kane--------------------------------Chadli-----

Looks like a mess, but Trippier and Rose will provide the width and move from box to box. Bentaleb and Dembele sit back and cover the spaces due to the wing back movement. Lamela isn't a good header, but his ability to pick a pass has been undersold due to pressure on him to score. He can pick a pass from RAM, as he has done many a time before in his career. Eriksen at LAM is self explanatory. Crosses move in to Kane and Chadli in an attempt to score on the counter.

Total counter game. Probably our best bet against United. Not my ideal formation, but hindered by the lack of a true CDM in our squad and the premise asks to keep the squad as is.
+1
No Vlad, Mason, Townsend, Lennon, Ade or Soldado in the squad the face MLS Allstars..
‪#‎MLSAllStar‬ game squad: Lloris, Vorm, McGee, Glover; Walker, Trippier, Yedlin, Davies, Rose, Alderweireld, Dier, Wimmer, Vertonghen, Fazio, Bentaleb, Winks, Dembele, Onomah, Eriksen, Chadli, Carroll, Alli, Lamela, Kane, Coulthirst
Haha come on just to post that but you beat me to it. Don't know why Townsend and Mason aren't there.
+1
Mason and Pritchard are out with injury, I believe. Perhaps Townsend is being wrapped in cotton to be shipped off? Maybe to make room for some Wunkerkind's from Germany?
Pritchard is injured, that I know. Will take your word on Mason. Townsend has featured in a few of the behind-closed-doors friendlies so pretty sure he isn't injured. Guess we'll have to wait for Poch's presser.
Townsend picked up a shoulder injury and apparently out for 2-3 weeks.
+1
Yes, been hearing Townsend been injured. Pretty sure, Mason is in our plans, so must be an injury.

Vlad, Lennon, Ade & Soldado look set to leave.
So many pre-season friendlies coming up, and the people who will benefit the most from them are out injured. What a waste.
