If RVP scored his chance, would have been a really different story, especially since Burnley don't have much in attack.

Also any chance RVP will be rested? He doesn't look sharp at all, I thought he would be eased in after WC, and not starting every game.
Unlike Moyes LVG got most of his target if not all. He must understand this system is not working. We dont have quality in defense to play this system. I think Moyes had a tough fixtures to start when comparing to LVG. If I am not mistaken scored more goals than this.
"Unlike Moyes LVG got most of his target if not all. He must understand this system is not working."

That quote could not have been more contradicting.

How many of those signings have actually played and featured in the system? How many games have they played so far? How many minutes had they added to their tally for this season?

You see how it doesn't make sense to judge our performance and formation when none of our new additions have even featured in the side yet, bar Herrera for 60 minutes?

I know it's frustrating seeing our team in the predicament it's been in for over a season now, but please at least try to be rational.

LvG knows he'll get it right, I know that he'll get it right and most United fans do to, just be patient....
I agree I am not saying Moyes is better or not. What I am saying is Cant we beat Burnley with what currently we have? At least a good display? One positive is with Blind we will not see Young again. I always hate these international breaks but honestly I feel this is right time for that. Hopefully our new signing will be ok to play.
Don't even start comparing the 2! Moyes is waaaaay below LVG's balls. But that's said, LVG is being very stubborn here. Im sure with a different set up we would have been able to play with more fluidity, at least in attack.
Easy on paper but on the pitch it's something else. This is the premier league afterall but having said that we should be beating these teams.

We can't beat them and what will happen when we face the sides from the top half of the table?
On the bright side, at least we get a clean sheet!
We also successfully stole a point from our relegation rivals!
And it's a two point drop... for Burnley!

+3
When will we stop playing 3-5-2 and when we stop using the pair of chicken wings! (no offense to chicken wings)

Need to buy Depay, Reus, El Shaarawy, or any wingers, even freaking mid-table wingers will do so we can offload those two pathetic wingers. Calling them winger is an insult to all wingers.
+2
The problem is that with this 3-5-2 formation you can't even play those wingers.
Getting back to our legendary wing backs, Valencia and Young can't get past one player and with this system they are sometimes up against two defenders.
I think you need to use the word "wing" a little bit more to get the point across.

Other than that, I completely agree with you.

#manutdwingchallenge
This is what happens when you play "wingers" at wingback. Valencia is a back up RB in a 4-4-2. And still then he's only half decent playing outwide

And Young is just s**t. Pure s**t.
Just wait and see after the international break, things will be better for us and i believe that. Once all our new signings are back to full fitness we're gonna be back on form but not so soon.

I know we are struggling with the formation, injuries, players showing no efforts. We need to calm our tits down, Time will TELL..LVG is the one that will bring back our success it just takes time. Like Solving the right puzzle pieces by pieces.

Lastly, LVG said himself in press conference. It may take him 3 months or maybe even a year to be the top teams in europe again. So we fans shall expect the worst outcome in the opening games rather than later.

We're just going to have to be patient, the side has fundamental flaws and they're not going to be ironed out so quickly.

Feels like last season all over again though, constantly waiting and hoping that things will just magically improve, the road to improvement is clearly not going to be a quick one, its going to be long and torturous and it will probably have to get worse before it gets better.

I would expect some kind of response after the international break when we have several players back but I don't think we do responses any more.

There is no point throwing blame around, we know what the issues are and so does the manager, he has said it publicly, United need to be taught how to pass the ball properly, you can talk about systems all you want but when your players particularly your defenders lack the confidence to play out from the back then you know the issues go much deeper.

All talk of top 4 needs to be put on hold if not dismissed entirely, this was supposed to be an easy start, 2 points from 9 against Swansea, Sunderland and Burnley is unacceptable for a side that wants CL football, those 7 points we've dropped will cost us before the season is out and we are yet to play any of the harder teams, this league is literally that tight, for example there were 7 points between 4th place Arsenal and champions City last season.

Di Maria was excellent though and showed what he will bring to the side, we just need to give it time, we need a sense of continuity to return to the club, knee jerk reactions are not going to help us.

The problem is we're aiming for the top 4 spots so we'll rather drop crucial points trying to adapt to a new system?

too many hoofball is caused by lack of passing options in midfield. the def can have all the confidence in the world if there is no one available there to pass to they will have to recycle the ball back or hoof it.

the front 3 are too closed to each other and no chemistry so they only run into each other and lose the ball. put welbeck in place of rvp and already an improvement in rhythm.

mata is supposed to be our creative hub but have been bullied off the ball too often. he is alone against 2 def mid. against the top 6 we are never going to be able to move forward. they just close down mata and we are stuck with hoofball.

LVG has all his best options at full back injured yet stick with the formation and thus forced to play young and valencia. why??

enough reasons for him to change the f**king formation already!
I don't agree with the top 4 part of your argument but the rest is solid. We need to be realistic and accept what Van Gaal has been telling us. It will be a rough transition.

I want to see us winning like any other fan would, but I plan on being a Manchester United fan for a long time so I don't mind suffering a bit in the short term in order to see the team get stronger. :p

@Cjay

We're not aiming for top 4 this season, maybe in the press room we are but realistically we're not, this is going to be a long process and people are going to have to accept that and stop with all the hysterical bullshit.

I do think the 3-5-2 needs to go but not for the reasons people have pointed out, we have been s**t on the ball and particularly playing from the back for several years now, changing to a 4-3-3 is not going to magically solve that.

The 3-5-2 was a bad idea because its thrown players out of their comfort zone who are already out of touch but maybe the club needs that... Rip the issues out root and stem rather than try to prune the plant, we're just going to have to get behind the manager.
I woke up late, how did Di Maria play?
anything we did good came from di maria
Decent but the team is in terrible form so he didn't have the proper opportunities imo.
I thought he played well.

We played like crap overall but he was involved with pretty much all our good openings. Really showed what he will bring to the side and has only been here a couple of days.
mixed performance, had some great moments and then some headscratchers he looked head and shoulders above anyone else in the opening 10-15 minutes but drifted in and out after that.

i don't think it makes sense to play him in CM long term but he looked mostly comfortable.

it's a worry tht with di maria and mata on the pitch the ball is still going wide to valencia and young to create

also our strikers are well off the pace. ok rvp is getting his fitness back but whats rooney's excuse? he's been pants since announced captain. needs to get his head back, he's not been dangerous at all.
@SIF why do you think the ball go to young and valencia if not because of the formation?
with a 433 or 4312 those 2 would not even be on the pitch in any of the games we played so far.
even with rafael and shaw and rojo out, we would be able to play jones at rb, and blackett or james at lb, granted they will not be effective going forward but at least they will stay back defending properly and pass the ball FORWARD to the other 6.
I don't comment much, only read, BUT... WTF is going on here? 3 games in and someone's poking at LVG for over confidence, someone for his word of use "philosophy" and list goes on. Reading those comments puts me in a sadder place than the game itself.

Get a f*****g hold of yourselves and support the team, manager and his "philosophy".Jesus -f*****g-Christ.

it is clear for every one to see that the players struggle with this formation so why not try smth else?
I would agree with you if we play beautiful football but it is NOT the case.
BUT BUT BUT WE HAD MORE POINTS UNDER MOYES.
+3
haha, what moyes has to do here?
has anyone ever asked what exactly does van gaal mean by philosophy? he's been saying the same s**t over and over again....

what's the use of playing out wide in 3-5-2 when your wingers are as s**t as young and valencia??
This is not Manchester United, this is Young United FGS
wonder how the same young blistering form in preseason. his season was over before it started. WTF
lol Wenrooney, well put!
@Theatreofdream: I wanted to ask the same thing. If you ever find the answer to that please let me know...
backpassley young and aimneartoe valencia.
for ffs, when did young look so dangerous in preseason. Couple of goals is such a big smokescreen.

It's like we having the best of possession.
Confidence is good, but overconfidence is dangerous.

I know Van Gaal, you are a brilliant tactician and you are best at what you do. But clearly the 3-5-2 is not working, so why be so stubborn and keep forcing the players into it, when it clearly is not working. The players look clueless with the ball, shaky at the back, attack looks disjointed, midfield doesn't exist.

3-5-2 might work in time, but this is not the right moment to instill it. Right now,we need results, build the confidence back in the players, score a few and bring stability at the back. Then if everything goes right, we can go back to the 3-5-2 experiment again.

So,LVG, it's time we ditch 3-5-2 for a while and do the basics, that our players understand and don't mind playing in.

P.S. we looked like back to our self in the 45 minutes against Swansea, when we reverted back to 4-4-1-1, even though we lost the match.
+4
What's the point of him being the manager if he has to do what the players "understand and don't mind doing"?

Let's just not have a manager and let the players do what makes them feel comfortable then. They're obviously very capable of fixing all of the issues our team has right now.
