Did anyone see Ander screaming at Mata to get his attention right before we took the corner for Rashford's goal? It doesn't take much for me he won my heart for that! Something that can go unnoticed but he was staying in his position and blowing out his larynx to get Mata to turn around and capitalize while the Leicester defense was sleeping.
+1
That goal was made by LVG and finished by his legacy. We tried that type of corner many times under LVG and it came off under Mourinho.
I cannot say it enough. My favorite United player will also become the most important in the months to come (if it is not obvious yet). Ander Herrera. Second most important player will be Blind.

Ander will be the key to unlocking the big frenchman and linking the defense and the attack. Good times to come. Weekends will be far better this year.
+1
I agree that Herrera will have a big role to play, when he plays well we all do. If you overlook him, he can score goals too.
He have been our only true box-to-box in years. When LVG signed him, he was the first CM signing in 6 years! We need at least one more player like him for rotation.
+1
Ander has bags of talent. He used to get tired previous seasons way too early, had to come off by the 70-min mark because he was exhausted. Looks like he has worked on this, against Leicester was good throughout the game.
ander isn't super consistent, and in all honesty he's being asked to play a lot deeper than usual (furthest forward in a midfield 3 or as an 8) and do the dirty work. i love his endeavor and aggression, always busts a lung for the team and never complains about minutes. just an all-round good footballer and positive addition to the squad. plus he is a bit of a through-ball specialist. for now it's working well and i hope it lasts but i wouldnt be surprised to see us go for more steel at some point when we play against a more expansive team.
i love ander so much.

the deeper role suits him as well, he has a great passing range, quick feet and vision. he's not shy in the tackle but tends to get booked for it

hell of a player, positive and loves the club. his youtube reels are great for the quick feet and through balls.
We should have got a RB before the window closed, Valencia fooled us with his good pre season form and 1 good game against Bournemouth.

It's frustrating to watch players get into the box but Valencia can't get a cross in because it hits a defender all the time
+1
That or a decent right winger; but yes I am kind of tired with his inconsistency. Valencia in my opinion has not been the same player since his injury.

He does the same trick time and time again and those crosses were he just powers the ball through in hope that he might get lucky. I mean he will run into the space with the ball but soon as a defender is within 10 yards he will turn around and pass the ball back.
He's just a hit and hope crosser, watching other right backs put in better crosses every week is so disappointing,
An obvious area we could improve. Valencia is better than Darmian though. He has been a huge let down.
since Neville we cant fill out that spot
I think we should after one or maybe all of those 3 next season: Aurier, Veratti and Griezmann
We were after Fabinho and we will still be after him. I read that mou wanted him this summer, but because we didn't sell enough players to make room for him, we pull out of the deal, because mou like his squad at a certain size.

Not sure if we'll bring him in during winter window, when we try to ship off that always injured CB.
I am not surprised at the fact that we scored 4 past hapless Leicester, could have been even more, but I am more surprised and amazed at the fact that how well we nullified the threats of the likes of the dangerous Mahrez, Vardy, Drinkwater, Slimani et al. It felt like they were not even on the field as they caused us almost any significant threats.

That goes to show how important the role of the man,Kante's is/was. He alone was doing all the dirty works, covering for advancing midfielders and full backs, the attackers barely had any defending duties to fulfil last season.Hence Mahrez, Vardy and Drinkwater were so dangerous and played out of their skin last season. But with the added defensive responsibilities this season, none of them have shone enough.

We also do need a combative, hard working no-nonsense, workhorse in our midfield to free up Pogba, to let our attackers run riot and turn their magic on without ever worrying that if they lose the ball, it would cause any harm as the Kante like player will mop up the spill
+2
It was collective team play (pressing together and making fast through balls/driving the ball thru the middle)

Kante was s**t agaisnt arsenal ytd tho. Matic Cesc william all leaving him to cover too much space.

If we are to succeed, we need everyone to be pressing and playing as a team.
+1
That hardworking, workhorse yesterday was Herrera and he was impressive as he was the key in starting our attack. The way he started the counter to Rashford's embarrassing missed shot was exactly what we missed for the last few games. Someone to put pressure and another to intercept.

Another game he showed his impact was when he came on as a CDM against City, he completely changed our game, made us look more competitive.

He might not be suitable for CDM physically, but his work rate and game reading allow him to overcome that.

No pundits talked about Blind and Herrera but both were the key to our game.
+1
honestly blind and herrera are such good ball player they make a huge difference to our side.

i don't see why they can't start in midfield with poggers as ten.
+1
I really like Herrera; he works his socks off and also has a decent pass in him. He tracks back a lot and makes those forward runs. Unfortunately for Fellaini whilst he offers good defensive cover on set pieces he is a liability and he is a very good passer of the ball.
Kante did f**k all vs arsenal for chelsea in terms of scoreline, it's probably just second season syndrome for Leicester, and or coping with being champions and being in CL.

Hard for them to mimic the same performances as last season. kante is a big loss but i'm not seeing how he stops those goals we scored especially the headers. i think on the whole quite a few of them have dropped a level. vardy's thing is pace and with smalling and bailly both he and his slow partner were shut down. blind did well with mahrez but the algerian does look to be suffering in form.
idk SiF he did get turnt by mesut ;D so he did do something :D

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/10592309/better-without-rooney

Sticking the knife in. It is just funny to read this with mkhi and martial still to come into the team. If mourinho picks his team on form, and knowing the 10 needs to interact with all players and the widemen need to be fast, Wayne will have a tough time staying in the team.

It will be a delicate one to balance.

I said it here a while back but pep gave the boot to squad problems in nasri, hart and yaya. his reward has been to get the best out of current city players he inherited like kdb and sterling. Mou may need to make big decisions like dropping Rooney to get the best out the team.

It's a delicate situation given Rooney is the captain for club and country but no player is bigger than the club so Rooney must accept this and Jose must manage this situation well. When the fans are calling for it, the press is calling for it and the results are going well, it means the situation at utd will be complicated so long as wayne's the captain and among highest earners.
I think in a way what Mourinho is doing is good. If you are someone with the reputation that Mourinho has and the history as a manager he has, you can't pull stunts like canning Rooney - club captain, some would argue club legend, almost the highest scorer in club history, etc. etc. If you boot Rooney, you instantaneously get the media on your back for being rash, bigger than the club, disrespectful and all that. He is slowly giving Rooney enough rope to hang himself so now that he is on the bench people are mostly pleased and not hounding him for why he did it. By showing the (verbal) support he is slowly giving Rooney time to process what is going on and still giving him a chance to save some face, potentially hit a purple patch, get his record and ride off into the sunset.

That would be the ideal case scenario for all parties involved. We'll have to see how it pans out but, for his part, Mourinho's doing a good job walking the fine line so far.
+2
Rooney's influence on the game is now reaching a stage where he can no longer impact the game anymore. Nobody bat an eye when we moved the likes of RVP on but suddenly everyone is trying to defend Rooney when he has been playing s**t or worse than RVP when he was declining.

Let us not forget SAF signed RVP because Rooney was unfit and we won that last title because Rooney was moved to wide or kept on the bench for some matches. Does it make sense to keep Rashford for example, who scored 3 in 3 for an aged rooney who cant even make a 5 yard pass straight?

I don't think we owe Rooney anything after he has had a stellar career here.
+2
Post match discussion, Gary Neville said Rooney should accept the fact that he will not be playing every game and will spend more time on the bench. Just like he, Scholes, Giggs did.

I think that if he really likes or even care about the club, he should take a wage cut and lead the team from shadows, instead of taking huge wage, playing every game and being a burden.

It really reminds me in NBA of Kobe Bryant doing a season long "retirement tour", dragging the team's development comparing to Tim Duncan who announced retirement and just vanished within the summer break, allowing the team to move on immediately.
^ talk about holding the team back for personal glory. He might smear his own reputation than just to walk away now
Imo not delicate at all. Rooney brings nothing to the table and is holding the team back. Ship him off to Mls
If Basti can be punted to the side, it shouldn't be complicated to drop Wayne when he's not playing well. You don't have to send him to play in the reserves, but the league team picks itself right now judging on how we played yesterday. Rooney can play his way into the team just like everybody else, but putting in good performances in the League and Europa cups.
So Theo Walcott was asked if he could ever remember a more dominant arsenal in 45 minutes and he immediately referenced our game last season (where we got blitzed for 20 or so minutes), the smug bastard. I hope he saved the medal he got for beating us for once in his career. Would be great to regain our old record under Fergie, making the Emirates our second home.
+3
It's okay, Arsenal crushed you last season and now they did the same to Chelsea, and they still won't win a thing. They're not a threat.
+3
You know nothing John snow...

I had too.
+6
nah crushed is losing 8-2, they spanked us but we put three on them in the reverse fixture anyways.
+2
Stupid Wallnut
+2
i mean he was right tho. before he even answered that question, when the interviewer asked him, i was also thinking about our match against them at emirates last season. but yea, we got our revenge by beating them with kids and destroying their title hopes.
+3
really, that's the best 45 minutes they've EVER had? flipping twat (walcott), he's just trying to be smug. He was going to break out a goofy grin, he just couldnt wait to bring it up. I was half expecting him to pull out pictures or a dvd from that game out of his back pocket but thankfully he must have forgot it in his locker.
+1
"Can you think of a more dominant 45 minutes in recent times, Theo?"

^ that was the exact wording of the question, not in "ever."

https://youtu.be/QVY6tDcoPO0
+1
ok, but i think you are missing the point, the guy is taking a swipe at us. that's their most dominant half in recent history? really? nah he's clearly taking the piss.
I was surprised he didn't say "any newcastle game, ever...except that 1" lol in all seriousness though I think he could easily pick out a Hull city game or an Aston Villa, but the context of the question may have been geared towards against a team that is of high caliber.
+3
^well thats my point, arsenal serially spank bottom half teams but the first name out of his mouth is united and i think it's a cheeky dig.
I won't deny you that. But who else in the top 6 have we spanked recently? City would be the next one from 2 seasons ago but I wouldn't say we spanked them. We usually fall top 4 because we don't consistently beat the teams that finish above us.

"What you’ve got here at the moment are four different managers of players and you’ve got a plate that’s got bolognese on it, a chicken tikka masala, a roast dinner with a load of curry and gravy thrown over the top and individually they are quite nice but together he has got to find out which bits of the plate he doesn’t like."

- Gary Neville

So glad he's back as a pundit!
+1
start of the match: 'I think we might be seeing a lot more of 442 this season. 2 strikers playing off each other is great.'

in the second half: 'You just can't play a 442 anymore nowadays. Everyone's figured it out.'

-Phil Neville
+6
Phil lmao, how can he be so different from Gary. This and his comment on Rooney showed that he is clueless at a shocking level :P
+1
One stay with sir alex the other went to Moyes.
+8
On the spot Somere.
Happy we didn't sign Pedro...
+1
Remember then meltdown when we got Martial instead of Pedro
+4
lol you guys dodged a bullet...Jose is the one who called him to sign for us :D
LVG called Memphis = Flop
Mou called Pedro = Flop

Now they have more in similarities than being prideful, arrogant and stubborn xD. Like teacher like student.
Actually i will blame Messi, he always make an Average player looks like a world class.
+8
yeah, that rascal. never pays his taxes either.

well mou called bailly, and you can bet he called pogba and ibra, so i hope that one works out for us. pedro is a good player, he's just past his best. he was top quality in his heyday.
+3
Mou has pulled some shockers in the transfer market.
Cuadrado was a total waste of money, he even had the balls to buy Adebayor while at Real Madrid
just about every top manager buys some shockers. can't always predict how players will react in a new environment. adebayor was loaned.
Adebayor was loaned but BS like this, imagine Adebayor of all other strikers at Real Madrid. Player and club are like fire and water, polar opposites. On paper it is a match made in hell.
Decisions like this was what got him fired at RM
The team that signed the best winger from spain would be arsenal, sanchez by far the best.
HAHAHA costa. Anyway, I think Conte's tactics are a mismatch for fast teams. the defensive line is too far deep when they are trying to play out from the back and also too far forward when they get countered.

That was also exposed at leicester in midweek

The gap between the midfield where kante has to cover is too far huge.
Also doesn't help when Cahill decides to take his sweet time on the ball, dunno what he was thinking
he was actually waiting for Conte to tell him what to do, i cant believe he is England first choice
This Chelsea team is a mess. Players who don't want to defend, player who can only defend etc. Why did they buy Luiz? Does he improve their defence? Conte has a lot of work to do.
Luiz had nothing to do with any goals...Cahill was the main culprit
I agree but I don't think he improves Chelsea.
+1
I thought Conte like to play 3 CB, and one of those CB will venture forward and join attack. I thought Luiz was bought for that reason.
