Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is considering a cut-price move for 25-year-old Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas.

For £5m it'd be a steal imo, 11 goals and 6 assists in a team that has scored 34 goals this season isn't half bad. And he has that same will to win as Suarez, always gives 100% on the pitch (sometimes a bit hotheaded, got banned for 4 games after he headbutted a Deportivo player few months ago).
+1
If we sign Tello I just hope they don't put one of those BS "buyback" clauses in the contract where they can buy him back for super cheap if they want to.

They tend to do that. As they should.
+1
Im happy to hear Reina could be out the door, he just was not @ his best the last 2 seasons....wish him well.
+3
I'm happy that Begovic could be an imminent replacement :D

Other than that, it's very heart breaking to see Reina leaving
+3
i still wouldn't sell him. he seemed to be regaining his form and after losing carra we need players like him in the defense. he is supposed to be one of the leaders of the group and losing two in one go can't be easy.

if he wants to go then that is fine with me. i can understand why he wants to go back to barca.
problem with reina leaving is we are losing a lot of leadership in the dressing room. With carra and reina gone there is no leaders to organize and shout at the back.

Agger will have to step up as he and gerrard will be the only leaders left. Hence the recent rodgers statement we need winners etc.
They just need to teach Begovic how to pass properly, he's not playing for a Hoofball team anymore :) Other than that, very happy if this turns out to be true- Begovic is probably the best shotstopper in Prem, and he's only 26.
steve nicol transfer picks for liverpool. I think those are good choices.

I think we should stop looking to include Tello into Reina's deal

I'm not sure Tello would want to leave one of the best clubs in the world to come to Liverpool.

Especially not in our current position, and i'm not sure Barca want Pepe that much to include one of their best talents in the bid.. They could easily get Ter stegen without having to give up Tello, they are Barcelona afterall
+3
Ahem.. we're one of the best clubs in the world as well. We might not be winning titles every other season or CL trophies but once Rodgers get a fully assembled team together with quality players we can challenge just about anyone. We very well could end up not getting Tello but if Barca are sniffing around for Reina that should be the best option a swap deal.
+4
You make it seem like he is going to stoke or worse neverton.
+3
if neymar to barca rumors are true then reina and tello deal will go through. Tello will essentially be fighting david villa and neymar for starting spot i don't think he will have the patience to stick around when we can offer him a starting role.
yeah as if we are the same as before, do you think ANY player would leave barcelona for Liverpool in our current situation?

Yeah maybe we could talk about the FUTURE or the PAST, but i'm talking about NOW!.. And it's funny that you mention Everton, they've finished above us for two consecutive seasons now..

Not saying they're a bigger club, but seriously guys. Why do you think Arsenal try so hard to get the 'fourth place trophy' every season?, you can't always attract the best players by just talking about what will happen in the future.

Oh and just so you know, we won a trophy last season, but i bet you most players will pick Arsenal over us right now!.. WAKE UP guys!
+4
Enrique, Suarez, Coutinho, Sturridge all brought to the club with NO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL. They are great players as well. When you say "current situation" you're almost making it seem like we're on the brink of relegation and playing 'hoof ball'. We are finally playing some attractive football and have scored 70+ goals this season.

Might be bias but if I was a player looking out from Liverpool whether in the UK or abroad somewhere else and saw what Rodgers is building I'd certainly like to be a part of it.

Oh and about the Everton thing, you're right they have finished above us the past two seasons for the FIRST time in 15+ years. They've also had the SAME MANAGER (Moyes) for 10 years with absolutely NO AMBITION to win trophies or get a CL spot. So as much as it sucks finishing below them I can put up with it because it was Rodgers FIRST FULL season in charge of the club. It's not easy coming into the Anfield hot seat as we've seen from past managers. Especially after a club icon like King Kenny, who as much as I love the man made some terrible decisions (along with Damien Comoli) in the TW and made it just that more difficult for Rodgers when he came in. Our wage structure has been re-organized and we're starting to do some better business in the window.

Even though he wasn't really a 'success' when he arrived but who was the other club that was trying to get Sahin and he chose us? :D

Also would just like to state that I'm not having a go at you just merely giving my opinion.
+1
It's true we aren't doing well, but we are still one if the best clubs in the world and Tello isn't really one of the best players in the world( at least not NOW). He is a bench warmer at Barca looking for an opportunity. If he knows what is best for him he will come to Licerpool because he will get more playing time and EPL gets more media and fan attention( which is exactly what a young player needs/wants). If he stays at Barca he will be competing with players like Messi, Inesta, Pedro, Sabchez, Villa etc for playing time, which is not something he wants.
+1
I'm quite sure, Sahin chose us because Arsenal wanted an option to buy him which Madrid didn't want, plus Mourinho influenced his decision!.

plus Suarez joined because he's a liverpool fan i bliv, and all of Coutinho, Sturridge and Enrique were NOT being chased by any notable 'big' team at the time we got them..

@ Kinglucas, i guess it would make sense if he came to us for more game time..

Look what i'm just saying is that, we need to be a little bit realistic with our transfer targets
+1
dan:

All the player that you mentioned came to liverpool not because we chased them.

I mean yeah we are big club but the charm that we had is no more.Suarez had issues with board or club i don't remember in depth but he had issue which is why he was desperate to leave the club and we provided him with the good offer.Enrique was at New Castle & Liverpool is definitely a better club. Sturridge was another bench warmer at chelsea he never got his opp. to prove eventhough he did great with bolton. Now he might be a victim of too much shuffle going in chelsea all the time. AVB was the one who would have really played him but unfortunately he was sacked early and daniel's situation became more terrible(Another player in a desperation to leave the club). Sahin was really the only signing that we snatched it away from arsenal though there were wide spread rumors that sahin wanted to go to emirates but something forced him to come to liverpool and i don't know what may be manager or board of madrid but he came to liverpool.

now as far as tello is concerned i don't know how much has he been playing cos i hardly ever watch la liga but if he is happy at barca then i don't know it might make situation more tricky cos for time being they are one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world and if he isn't then again if another big clubs aren't approaching him he will end up with us.

now its not like we are small club or anything but there are another clubs who have been better then liverpool which is a sad fact but have to accept it.

Also about everton thing, even if moyes would have stayed there for another 10 yrs well i am sure that we would have overtaken them within season or two. I never doubted that.
+1
"were NOT being chased by any notable 'big' team at the time we got them.."

.. And that means what exactly? That they aren't 'top' players? I think it's good business done on our part. Also I do agree with you Toby about us being realistic with our transfer targets. BUT Is it a bad thing though for us going for top quality players? Sure we might not get all the ones which us fans desire but it doesn't hurt to inquire about them and see if anything comes of it!
Liverpool could certainly attract Tello.

I think its clear that your a club that wants CL football your not content with a top 8 finish right?

I think Tello is exactly the kind of signing Liverpool should be looking to make... A player who isn't demanding CL football as a prerequisite or huge wages for that matter but is young and hungry to push for a CL spot.

Liverpool will need proper investment this summer though if you want top 4 as everyone in the current top 4 will be stronger next year so breaking into that group will not be easy even without European football as a distraction.
+3
"do you think ANY player would leave barcelona for Liverpool in our current situation?"

Yes, Sergi Canos :)

tello isn't the star of that barcelona side, he may be one day but isn't right now. if he wants to play regularly then this is a pretty good place for him. he would be guaranteed to play over downing.
+2
Seriously, it isn't Falcao, Cavani or Lewandowski that Liverpool is trying to attract- Tello is warming the bench at Barcelona and his situation isn't all that great with so many players ahead of him in the pecking order, plus rumors of Neymar coming this summer and Cuenca returning from loan- things are looking even worse. I'm not saying that Liverpool is going to sign Tello, but it certainly isn't impossible.
+1
Hopefully without Europe to distract us, and a team with depth that I believe will be top 4 quality we'll be able to focus more on the cups as well and maybe win some silverware next season!

I'm optimistic about our targets and next season. It's a nice change.
+2
Amen to that.
+1
Well it is more than likely that Reina will leave. So here goes, I think everyone should be thankful of having a player of his quality at the back, he has always been part of our team's spine. Shouldn't be forgotten because of a few mistakes here and there in the recent past.

Thanks Reina for the years of service YNWA
+2
Yeah, Pepe has been immense for Liverpool. His form has dipped in the recent years (although he has regained his old form in the second part of the season), but his distribution is second to none and he's such an important character in the dressing room (so everyone says). No true Liverpool supporter will forget what Pepe has done for the club and if he ever returns to Anfield with Barca (or anyone else), he will get a proper welcome (like Riise, Rafa and Sami did, not like the welcomes that Owen and Torres received:).

:D

This window can change our team to more than top 4 challengers for next season if we get the right players.

Tello= swap for Reina

Begovic= 10 million

Erikson= 15-20 million

Diame= 5-10 million. We really need this guy he is cheap and he is very good. In a year or 2 he can be worth 20+ million. Since we are doing business with West Ham for Andy, maybe we can get him as part of the deal. 7/8 Million + Diame would be great.

Toure = Free. I would be very happy if we got Toure. He is 32 and he is a good defender. He can be a good back up for Skrtel and Dagger.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos= 15-20 million. If we sign this guy great if not then its not to bad. We will have Dagger, Skrtel, Toure, Coates,Kelly, and Wisdom. Who can all play at CB. If we dont sign Toure then we need to sign this guy.

So we will need about 45-60 million to have a good transfer window. When we subtract 15 million for the sell of Carroll(hopefully) then we will need 30-45 million from the owners.
+3
I hope whatever transfer business we do we try and wrap it up quickly. The longer we wait I feel a players price could go up from their agent tapping them up or potentially another team trying to snatch one of our targets! Rodgers & Co. have an important summer to do some shrewd business! It's going to be so crucial if we really want to get that CL spot next season.
+1
Is Barca really looking to sell tello??? He's one of their most promising talents
+1
Well, Tello has a release clause of £8.5m in his contract and he's not getting games...plus there's Neymar coming and Cuenca probably returning to Barca. And they want Reina to replace Valdes, so it makes sense. Another player linked to Liverpool: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfers-iago-aspas-deal-1905327

for around £5m it'd be worth a shot, he can play as a winger or CF. Celta has been crap this season (and will most likely go down), but Aspas is class from what I've seen him play (11 goals and 6 assists, and in a team as bad as Celta, that isn't bad). He was also linked to Chelsea (during the january window, but they went for Ba instead), Reading and Swansea. A scouting report: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/iago-aspas-scouting-report-lowdown-1906402

+1
@KingLucas I think they were going to offer Downing + money for Begovic, so it wouldn't be full £10m (3-5m, maybe...I have no idea).
+1
Papa deal close: http://www.talksport.co.uk/radio/sports-breakfast/130523/honigstein-papadopoulos-close-liverpool-move-198196 The bit about the deal is around 14:40. Now if they pull off the Tello, Begovic and Eriksen deals I'll be very happy.
+1
Ohhh get Papa!!!! I won't get my hopes up but it's nice being linked with players of such quality.

Edit: Barca are getting Neymar?
+1
Even if we don't get Tello, I would say about 15 million would be a good fee for Riena considering his age. If Tello's realease clause is 8.5 then we would be losing money in that deal. I know Barca want Riena because of his distribution and because he is very cool and relaxed with back passes( which is really good for position game). In this case we could even keep Reina and pay the 8.5 for Tello.

If Podo comes then we will be very strong in the back. We will have good depth and quality.

As far as Diame I am really hoping we get him because we need more quality in the CM position. He would be the perfect fit in that position. The best quality about him at the moment is that he is cheap.
+1
@Dan it seems so yeah...they had one bid (or so they say) rejected, but if Barca go after someone they usually get them. And with so many players ahead of Tello at Barca already, I can't see him being happy just sitting on the bench (at 21) and getting 10minutes in every few games, at that age he needs to be playing full 90mins if he wants to improve (and if he dreams of being included into the national side). Anyway, I'm happy if he comes...but if he doesn't, there are others (like Aspas for example) who can replace Downing.
+1
@KingLucas: They also want Reina because he came out of the Barca academy and knows the club inside out (actually, I think that's one of the main reasons why they want him).
+1
Then the deal should be either for 15M( if Telli doesnt want to leave) or Tello + 5 or 6 million.
