Burnley 0-4 Reading

Was it a good match? Everything that was good on Tuesday night against Barnsley was bad today. It was a combination of a poor performance by us, a solid away team and an abject referee with no common sense or man management skills. Leon Cort, who was sent off, hasn't been booked for five years – the ref should have just given him a talking-to instead of the second yellow card. The margin of the score didn't reflect the game because we weren't four goals worse. Who played well/who had a nightmare? Nobody really played well; André Bikey and Jack Cork were okay but nothing more than that. In terms of a nightmare, you can take your pick.

Coventry 3-0 Barnsley

Was it a good match? We came out strongly, went one up and could have been clear by half-time. But Barnsley came back after the break, passed through us and deserved an equaliser. We defended well, though, held them off and scored two cracking late goals. We couldn't understand our substitutions but two of them scored, so it worked. Who played well/who had a nightmare? Richard Keogh was man of the match. He defends very well and is great on the overlap, whereas Clive Platt, known as "The tree", took root and never moved far from the edge of their box.

Doncaster 2-0 Sheffield United

Was it a good match? I'm really pleased with the performance. It was a real anti-climax in a way because I was expecting Sheffield United to be a lot stronger. The main difference for us was the return of James O'Connor. Mustapha Dumbuya is getting stronger and slotted in really nicely into the back four. He moves forward really comfortably. Definitely a player who can improve. Billy Sharp got one over on his old team and lifted his shirt after he scored and it said: "Just a fat lad from Sheffield." It was so easy. Who played well/who had a nightmare? Dumbuya and O'Connor gave the rest of the team confidence. Woods struggled with his passing.

Hull City 1-2 Portsmouth

Was it a good match? We're getting used to these grim performances now. Coming down from the Premier League, we thought it would take some time to rebuild, and we were all very happy to get Nigel Pearson as manager, but there's no sign of progress, and it doesn't look like the players are playing for him. He keeps chopping and changing, and the body language suggests there's no team spirit. Who played well/who had a nightmare? Nick Barmby was the best by a long, long way, for his effort and workrate. You can see that he cares. Pompey, in contrast to us, have spirit and are playing as a team.

Millwall 2-0 Derby

Was it a good match? It was a good result and testament to our bouncebackability under Kenny Jacket. We played excellent and made an in-form Derby side look poor by dominating the midfield. We looked assured in defence and Danny Shittu, making his debut, formed a good defensive partnership with Paul Robinson. I would certainly having taken the ninth place we have now at the start of the season. Who played well/who had a nightmare? I would say Shittu, Liam Trotter, Tamika Mkandawire all stuck out equally today. Robbie Savage was taken off on the hour. He looks like dead wood. We made sure he didn't see any of the play.

Norwich 1-0 Middlesbrough

Was it a good match? Vibrant, flowing, tense and exciting. This game ticks none of those boxes. The kindest thing I can possibly say is that it rose to the standard of dreadful in the second half. The single goal we scored always looked likely to be enough, given Boro's paucity of belief. They did at least provide the comedy moment when the entire back four collapsed to the turf in synchronisation when missing their single chance of the game. Who played well/who had a nightmare? Elliott Ward gets some praise purely for his strength at the back when we were holding on. Kris Boyd was utterly ineffective.

Nottingham Forest 2-0 Ipswich

Was it a good match? We were excellent all round. There have been some rumblings about lack of confidence but today we were relentless going forward and were really incisive with our passing on the deck. Part of the reason we were so good was that Ipswich didn't come to shut up shop, and they played a passing game. They struck me as quite a lightweight team, a surprise for a Roy Keane side. Who played well/who had a nightmare? Everyone is going to be talking about Lewis McGugan and his long-range free-kick but Lee Camp deserves credit for having a good game and was capable of saving everything that came at him.

Preston North End 4-3 Crystal Palace

Was it a good match? Good result in the end. It was entertaining but we are shipping too many goals. We are not in a good state just now. We have a lack of confidence but why it's gone I don't know. We looked really good until they scored the second goal but then you could see the confidence draining. Who played well/who had a nightmare? Iain Hulme was the official man of the match and I would agree with that. He was the only one that stood out for us. Wayne Brown also played well at the back and organised us well. James Vaughan is a dirty player and a few of our players got booked because of him.

Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Was it a good match? Excellent performance today because Leicester are a tough nut to crack. Credit to our goalkeeper Dorus de Vries who made a good save just before the half-time whistle to keep it level. Marvin Emnes came on and within five minutes he scored. He will definitely fit in. He is here on a month-long loan but I hope we extend that. Who played well/who had a nightmare? The main guy for us was Joe Allen. Andrea Orlandi didn't really do anything for us and is maybe a bit lightweight. He could easily have been replaced at half-time by Kemy Agustien, he was making his debut, and was much stronger in the tackle when he came on.

Watford 0-2 Scunthorpe

Was it a good match? I would argue that we have been playing above our station. We have a young team and Tuesday was a great result. If we get safety that is the main thing taking into account last season and staving off that terrible relegation-fight feeling. Scunthorpe played 4-5-1 with Freddie Sears up top. Their goals were both really good finishes and they deserved the victory. Who played well/who had a nightmare? Adrian Mariappa is a young player showing his worth and is a lot more consistent than he ever was in the Premier League. Scott Loach hasn't kicked on since his England call-up.
