LOL Portugal got knocked out in PK with all their penalties saved.
Bravo has super powers in penalty shootouts
Chelsea, Bournemouth agree Nathan Ake transfer for 20m. Reports suggest that buy-back is included.

Very sad to see him go, but i understand why it would make sense for Ake to play every game instead of being back-up option here. sell with buy-back is much better than loan since loan players rarely make it to 1st team and are mostly used as back-up options.

Ake has huge potential and i wish he can replace Cahill at LCB in couple of years. Right now maybe he is not ready to challenge Azip,Luiz,Cahill,Zouma,Christensen for a spot in back-3
If PSG or City hijacked Sandro deal then our boards should be all hijacked and make them jobless as well.
part of me hopinhg they do hijack the deal :|
GK – Courtois / Caballero / Eduardo
RCB – Christensen / Virgil Van Dijk
CB – Luiz
LCB – Cahill / Ake
RWB – Azpi / Moses
CM – Kante/ Bakayoko / Fabregas / Chalobah / Baker(Pending Preseason)
LWB – Sandro / Alonso
SS – Hazard / Pedro / Willian / Musonda or Kenedy (pending preseason)
ST – Lukaku / Batshuayi / RLC (pending preseason)

Thoughts?
Christensen is more of a CB than an RCB. Zouma is probably the backup for RCB. VVD is doubtful tho, as City and Liverpool are also interested.

Also he's claimed that he wants Liverpool.. will he still join Chelsea? idk

Otherwise looks ok. I have my doubts on lukaku but I'll see what Conte manages to do
Azpi has purchased that RCB unless on the unavailability of Moses then he can shift to RWB. I think Conte wants to upgrade on LCB which is Cahil . that midfield needs more creative, without Cesc we will suffer to break teams down. On striking part I think Conte knows what he want so whoever he buys must be better than Costa or on par with Costa coz we should be upgrading and not downgrading.
Agree with most of the OP but I think Andreas can play anywhere across the back 3 and is the most suitable cover for Luiz.

RLC is not a Striker he will be used mostly as a box to box I think Conte using him as SS last season was to improve his goal threat and threat around the opponents goal area- I may be wrong.

Personally I'll be fine with Lukaku/Marotta,Bakayoko, Sandro and maybe a new CB plus we must keep Matic. With Sandro as LWB we can shift Alonso to LCB which was his position at Florentina iirc. That will basically seem like signing a new CB and with AC returning from loan we may not be so desperate for CBs anyway. Baker,RLC and Chalobah can continue to provide cover for CMs and forward roles and continue their learning while Aina can provide desperate cover for the RWB and continue his assimilation into the first team with Azpi ready to cover when not on RCB duties.

In a nutshell 3 signings can massively improve our squad and prepare us for the huge challenge next season on all four fronts.
I remember Christensen playing RB when he started for Chelsea couple of seasons back...could he be used as RB?
If we are selling Ake ...I'm certain that we will go after VVD.

Cahill, Azip ,VVD , Luiz , Christensen & Zouma for 3 positions will be good option. considering Azip might move to RW from RCB next season.

I dont think Conte will trusts Moses to play RWB in big games going forward
I think Moses will still remain first choice RWB irrespective of opponent, going forward he is the best RWB in 1v1 situation. He cost us the FA cup final but jugging him with one mistake against one big team is unfair. Coz he has been excellent against United,City,Spurs,Liverpool and Arsenal at home.

This is his first season adjusting from a winger to a defender so it won't be easy , Pedro can testify about it on the hell he went through against a young Costa during our FA cup against Wolves.

I'm sure Conte will work more on Moses defending during this pre season because if he can adjust so much during his first season in an unfamiliar position, then imaging what he will do next season with proper pre season and time to learn more.

Remember that he started the season as a winger competing with Hazard, wiilian and Pedro before been switched to RWB after seven matches.
Discussion Question: Are 4 CMs enough for next season? If not, what target would you have in mind?

Hmm. Guardian reporting Matic to United for 40m?

Is Kante, Cesc, Bakayoko and Chalobah enough for next season with four competitions? If we stick to 2 CMs it could be enough, but I'm not convinced. The offer is crazy, but to be truly competitive in Europe and domestically you need good players and good depth. The Bakayoko transfer now seems more like a sideways step with an eye to the future, which is fine. But I was hoping we truly pushed on in building a deep side. Ultimate goal should be to have depth rivalling Bayern or RM.

The fee is immense for a player prone to moments of donkiness though lol and appears to be on the decline. Actually feel he will do well at United fwiw
Bakes coming back after a good season? Will RLC move back to CM role? Also, what about MVG and Pasalic ?
MVG and Pasalic will both be gone. Think it's clear that neither will cut it here. RLC, the back injury really didn't help, I actually feel like he needs a prem loan to get back on track.

Baker, very very very promising though. I wouldn't mind him in the squad.
I dont think 4 CMs are enough considering we'll be playing 3 of them at a go in a 3-5-2 when necessary. I think we'll be fine with 3 top level and 2 upcoming CMs with Kante,Bakayoko,Matic in the former group and 2 of Chalobah/RLC/Baker in the latter group. It is absolutely necessary we keep Matic bcos although he can be a donkey sometimes he is more than an average player and that is the kind of depth we need to compete with the Reals,Barcas and Bayerns of this world. I know 40m is very tempting but we must weigh that against the quality we are affording our direct rivals. Mourinho plays defensive so Matic will thrive in his system way better that Conte's and if he replicates his 14/15 form then we'll be damned.

Arsenal have now learnt not to strengthen a direct rival and will not sell Alexis to any PL team and we must follow suit. We cannot rely on Chalobah and RLC as back up CMs they havent earned that trust yet. Chalobah didn't impress in the U21s and Baker didn't particularly stand out. Some players are late bloomers so let's give them a couple of years when the likes of Matic and Fabregas will be 30 and over and see if they can hopefully take over then
+1
Seriously I don't know why we are helping rivals, we should chip him to Juve for half of the price than selling to rivals. Our board haven't learnt anything yet, I guess they will sell Hazard to City if they met his price tag.
Traore transfe fee was quoted around 19m and turned out to be 10m...Hopefully same happens with Lukaku & Sandro transfer and fee is significantly lower than the rumored 80 and 60m respectively
Dont think we'll pay such amounts for them player and like I saud below not even Mourinho could get the board to spend that much.

For Traore I'm pretty sure there are clauses and add ons that will significantly increase the profitability of the deal to us. We didn't have to sell him and at worse we could have sent him on loan so selling him now indicates that the board must have a deal too good to refuse and took it.
I think the situation is different for Conte.
While Mourinho had all the good promising players, he wasn't able to make good use of them and he ended up selling them for rather cheap. What can the board do then? When he refuses to use one of the best young midfielder like KDB, Mata, Salah and even Lukaku. We even bought Felipe Luis just to sit him on bench.
However Conte inherited average squad and demoralized players, he bought couple of players he desperately needed and turned them into the best. Whilst he got rid of some dead logs: Mikel, Oscar. We have the budget and a manager who actually knows how to maximize player's potential, I'm certain that the board will go extra mile for Conte.

I dislike the cases of making excuses for one manager and putting another to sword. It's hypocritical..let's just agree that there is something wrong at Chelsea which makes it hard for young players to come through.

Also, About B Traore, we have a 15% sell on clause and an unoffical buy back or first choice buyer in the future if we want. that would explain why the fee is rather low.

I hope Ake stays thou. I dont see why we should spend huge money on CBs when we've got young players we can also groom
+2
Better be a buyback clause with a fee that low... real bargain in this market
Chelsea striker Bertrand Traore has joined Lyon for £8.8m (10m euros).

Horseshit!!...Day light robbery!

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40412530
I can only hope that there are plenty of bonuses, and other such things involved.
Maybe unofficial buy-back clause(because French FA does not allow buyback) ? That is the only possibility
+1
I suspect same bro
We get 15% of the fee when he is sold again. And if we want to buy him back, we get dibs. Considering all that, 10m ain't bad. He isn't good enough to break into our XI atm at least; even Thorgan was better.

I'm worried we'll sell Ake without a buy back tho. Hope Ake stays, he's good enough to start :/
Ake will be good enough to start...but Cahil aint bad enough to bench and end his career after helping win PL last season.

Its a difficult situation and i hope we sell with buy back clause to bring him back in 2 year for decent fee
Luiz is a bit injury prone and also error prone. If he makes mistakes I can see Ake starting over him. Same for Cahill.
as of now only rumors about Ake...i hope its not ture
Bournemouth are reportedly closing in on a £20m deal to take back Aké

Scary bad..Traore and now this. Atleast milk 35/40m or add buy-back clause
2022: Chelsea agreeing a 60m pounds deal for Nathan Ake.
+4
I heard there is buy back clause on them.
I guess player dont want to be on loan anymore because it impacts game time..sell and include buy back is best option.

Honestly Ake and Traore have great potentially..but neither is ready to be regular starters for team fighting for PL and CL. So it make sense if they can find a club which can give them complete game time and include buyback just incase
Sorry but none of those guys is worth 35m upfront. I think for Traore whose move is now officially confirmed, we will get around 20m upfront with either add ons or buy back clause. It will be more or less the same for Ake.
Traore 10m. Ake 20m.
Ake 12-15mil
Traoe 10-12mil

No one unless their a club with money will pay 30-40mil for them lol. Good move by both players, I do feel for Ake the most. His been with Chelsea for a long time, he showed great potential at Bourenmouth but honestly, he should have left Chelsea long ago.
