So I saw a debate going on on the United Forum about who's a DM or CM at Chelsea.

This is my stance,

Nemanja Matic is our DM.
N'Golo Kanté is our CM.

Now, the system we play demands an equally attacking contribution as Defensive contribution...so i see why some might think Kante is a DM.

What do y'all think?
Looking at the table its easy to see that consistency has been the driving force towards the title. We have won 22 games which looks impressive and far removed from our direct rivals but that doesn't tell the whole story. If we break the table down to home and away games thwn things get very interesting. I will just focus on the big 6 here;

HOME FORM TABLE
PL W D L GD PT
TOT 15 13 2 0 27 41
CHE 13 12 0 1 28 36
EVE 15 10 4 1 24 34
LIV 14 10 3 1 23 33
ARS 13 9 2 2 13 29
BUR 14 9 2 3 10 29

Thats pretty self explanatory. City and United come in 8th and 9th under West Brom. Tottenham look formidable at home and even if we win our 2 games in hand we'd still be tied on same points.

AWAY FORM TABLE

P W D L GD PT
CHE 15 10 3 2 10 33
MCI 14 10 0 4 14 30
MUN 13 8 3 2 9 27
LIV 15 6 5 4 2 23
ARS 14 6 3 5 9 21
TOT 13 4 6 3 7 18

This is where the big teams have earned their money. But it is pertinent to note that Tottenham's 4 away wins is the same as Crystal Palace, West Ham, Everton and Southampton and only one more than Watford, West Brom, Swansea and Stoke who are on 3 wins each.

What one takes away from these tables is that although we seem to be running away it's still fine margins and there's no room for complacency this summer in terms of reinforcements. City and United's home form will not be as bad next season and if they managed to win 2-3 more games at home against smaller teams the table would be drastically different. We have had lucky 1 goal margin wins vs West Brom, Stoke, West Ham, Tottenham etc but lady luck may not be feeling as generous next season.

Having said that I think for hus first season in charge Conte has been absolutely amazing. I really enjoy the fact that he is so flexible and switches formation where necessary. A prime example being our recent match where we saw 3-4-3, 3-5-2 and 4-2-3-1 to win a game where other's would have shored up and accept a respectable point at Stoke who put in their "Stokest" performance of the season which would make Pulis proud of his legacy. Also draws at Burnley, Swansea and especially Liverpool could easily have been wins to further increase the gap.

In a nutshell, home form is the most important factor in a title winning side. SB in turning into a fortress as was the case in the past title winning seasons and long may it continue.

Asked if the Chinese Super League could still be an option in the summer, Costa told El Larguero: "Anything can happen. Why not? You never know. Now I'm happy at Chelsea but if tomorrow the Chinese come and Chelsea tell me I have to go, I will no longer want to stay with them."

"I did all that I could to return but it didn't happen," he added. "When Atletico had to wait for me, they didn't wait. There was still a month to go [end of transfer window] and they didn't have the patience [instead signing Kevin Gameiro from Sevilla].

"On Conte's first day, I told him that I wanted to join Atletico and he was upset with me and didn't even look at me. Luckily, I started to score goals."
So Costa will likely leave. Who are we likely to buy? Lukakau?
I really don't understand these comments, he has been fantastic and playing great. There's no need for these comments... Whatever happened between Costa and Conte has set things into stone. It's kinda sad tbh, I'm not a Chelsea fan but he is one of the best strikers in the world and it would genuinely be a piss take if he goes to China for whatever reason

What's your source Bazinga?
It's on sky sports

http://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/3087465/chelseas-diego-costa-not-ruling-out-china-and-tried-for-atletico-madrid-return
if atletico sell griezmann, maybe he thinks they will buy him back.
I won't be surprised if it happened. They would keep Gamerio, sell Griez and buy back Costa who's been dying to get back to Madrid. All really depends on Griez, if he chooses to stay at Atleti, than it won't happen.

Really kind of sad for Chelsea, his a lethal striker that has gotten so good and would do well in UCl under Conte but his head is elsewhere and lacks long term commitment to the club that his won 2 league titles with.
He can go, as long as he's not replaced with Lukaku.
+3
If Costa leaves and you get Lukaku to replace him, do you think that would be an upgrade or a downgrade?
100% a downgrade. And a downgrade that costs over 60m.
+8
Big downgrade.
+1
Lukaku will be perfect fit for united after Zlatan is done..He can be the next big target man upfront.

I hope we can get someone like Aubameyang or Alexis.
+1
Doesn't matter if Costa leaves Chelsea, he's obviously a top class player, but Chelsea are always able to attract the top talent in Europe/England.
+4
Alexis would be the best replacement for Diego if he leaves. Hopefully he stays and we also get Alexis lol.
+1
Hazard Costa Alexis

Conte pls.
actually, he could just be saying it because the saga is over. i missed the part where he says he is happy now but wasnt before.
I think every player would consider moving, and just because he's honest about it doesn't mean he deserves stick for it.
lets get sanchez already.. and griezman.. and dybala.. and ok lukaku can come as well
We can't buy those 3 players at once its impossible . 3 of them will demand starting games which will be impossible . Sanchez and greizman will be nice.
^ Im sure Kokm1 was sarcastic :P
Gylfi Sigurdsson is the man if we want to replace KDB. Very similar attributes with better stats.

Goals:
Gylfi 8
KDB 4

Assists:
Gylfi 11
KDB 10

Crosses:
Gylfi 213
KDB 202

Shots:
Gylfi 91
KDB 67

I thinking about Gylfi other day...He will be very good addition and will come for decent price. But do you think he will accept anything less than starting role? I dont know where we can play him in our current system
Last Summer is posted on this forum that Sigurdsson would be a fantastic addition for us if Oscar left. I got mostly negative feedback like...he's a Spurs reject bla bla bla.

I still he can do a decent job for us as part of a midfield 5 or second Striker in the way Conte was using RLC in pre season. However I think he'll block our boys chances so not so keen on him now.
Gylfi is f****n quality anyone saying not is takin a piss.
If he aint good enough for tottenham then he aint good enough for us
+1
Yeah Im with raj, I don't believe the hype.
he is a good player but playing in swansea doesnt come with the same pressure and scrutiny (and lack of freedom, lets be honest, teams like swansea usually dont play against packed defense) as playing with a top top like chelsea.
Chelsea very interested in signing Monaco midfielder Bakayoko.
He reminds me of young Yaya Toure.
@GuillemBalague
Monaco's Bakayoko has agreed personal terms with Chelsea. Next step is for Chelsea to pay Monaco more than anybody else for the midfielder.\

good BS though :P

COURTOIS HAPPY AT CHELSEA

Thibaut Courtois has downplayed talk of a move to Real Madrid and instead wants to sign a new Chelsea contract.

"I have two more years of contract left. In London everything is going well for me and I am happy," Courtois told Spanish station Cadena Ser.

"I don't see myself at Real Madrid. I see myself at Chelsea. I feel like a key player within the team.

"I am very calm because since the first year I have heard the same things. Here at Chelsea we are battling for the league and FA Cup and I am content."

+3
One bad season and he will change his colors...very unpredictable guys
+1
I know what you mean, Bazinga. However, we already had 1 bad season.
+1
when we had that bad season, he was talking s**t
+2
Not like Conte is stupid enough to let him go.
Kgb - Din't he talk lot of sh*t last season and almost made a point that he wanted to leave for Real?
We fans can be so difficult to please. If a player refuses to extend his contract then he's not loyal. If he refuses to comment on his future he's planning to leave. If he says he wants to stay then we rubbish him by saying he'll leave when the inevitable bad season arrives.

The lad has said the right thing..I couldn't ask more of him. Thats all we need now.
+5
Lol, he is under no obligation to play for Chelsea only, so he's saying the right thing at the moment. If RM come for him (which they won't, De Gea :D) we will surely get a fair valuation for him like almost all of our recent sales.

Courtois is a bit iffy, but he's a good GK (I used to think he was on par with DDG but DDG is a bit better now I guess). Madrid will just buy the next best GK and shed him off, he's winning trophies with Chelsea (touch wood) so I don't see why he'd be very inclined to leave.
Nobody is questioning his ability and GK skills. Just that his attitude is iffy and keeps changing according to situation.
His overall stance is clear tho - happy but open to moving to a bigger club. I don't see anything wrong with it TBH. It's not like Madrid will buy him over DDG anyway ;)
Can't believe some of our fans on this website, always hating on Willian, Costa, and now even Mourinho. Willian has improved a lot during the last 2 years and is a real quality player who is scoring more and contributing more, you are blind if you can't see that. He was our POTY last season. Costa is probably the main reason we are winning the league, even when he doesn't score he contributes, but oh cause he is sometimes clumsy on the ball, he is all of a sudden out of form and can leave in the summer. And Jose who has won us 3 league titles, been our most successful manager, a Chelsea legend, who even supported us in the CL when he was at Madrid. He's the manager of Man Utd now, he can't publicly be showing massive respect to Chelsea, it would look bad for him as Man utds mamager, we have to understand that. I bet if even Conte left, which he will in the future, some would hate on him.

As for other fans, I'm sorry you have to witness some of this embarrassment, especially the Mourinho hate. Trust me, most of us are not like this, every fanbase has their complainers who can never be satisfied with what they have.

We are winning the league and having a fantastic season, lets enjoy it please!
+4
1. Nobody is hating on Costa because he is out of form or not scoring. People are just sick of his attitude on the pitch sometimes which could get him sent off and become a huge set-back at this point in season. Some fans like him that way on the field and some do not. so no need to get worked-up about it. He himself tried to leave chelsea couple of time already. Its not like fans sent him letter asking to leave

2.Again some people are only pointing how willian could be even better if he could make use of his pace and skills. Lets see if you can prove that he is 100% prefect player who need not improve and is better than Pedro and deserves to start ahead of Pedro now? Just reading one or two lines and telling people hate him is really lame.

In many fans opinion he can improve even more to become starter and currently he screws lot of chances because of his decision making. Please dont blame an opinion as hate.

3. Nobody started hating him until he started taking dig at our club and current manager in his interviews time and again. Nobody randomly start hating him because they were sitting free.

RDM , Carlo and many manager have left Chelsea and they might return back to PL one day. Also Conte might leave us one day and maybe return back to manager our rival club. "ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THEY WOULD NOT TAKE DIG AT FORMER CLUB LIKE A PUSSIES"

First try to understand why few are hating on him and then come-up with stories about fans hating Conte if he leaves in future. Not every who leaves acts like a pussy.

Everyone knows what he has achieved for the club and his contribution to where we are today etc. But lets not use that as emotional blackmail to cover-up his sh*ty talks. Also no "MIND GAME" bullsh*t please..he knows what he is doing

Any forum is all about sharing different opinions. If you feel someone is wrong and you disagree, please feel free to tell why with valid points instead of calling fan's embarrassment because your opinions do not line-up.

Infact what is more embarrassing is the our best manager ever who was once a fan fav. who was contently defended by fans after talking sh*t in media about other managers and club is now showing his class with no respect for club which gave him great platform in career.

cheers.

Cheers TheChelsea...

1. ...I look at Costa and see pure passion, Stoke fouled the man 4 times before he told the ref to "f**k off" as he should have, those men came out aggressive and he was the only one to respond, I can continue but whats the point, u won't get it..next point on China, anyone who wouldn't think twice when there's a business offering you 30mn/year vs 8m/year for your talents is an idiot PERIOD, I WOULD ALSO BE TELLING CHELSEA that they might can f**k off for the sake of my grandhildrens-childrens-children, why is that so inconceivable??? And he is on the side of staying, not leaving ffs, I am a Chelsea fan just as much as ANYONE here but think rationally

2. Barely understood it..Wilian's pace is second to none in EPL period, honestly think he's misplaced.. Yes, he hesitates bc of his immense ability, when is the last time you saw him lose the ball in that stalling motion he does (which also irritates me)???? When's the last time u saw him score a goal??? & where are we in the league...??? & where would we be without his freekicks last year?? AND this year... OK next point..

3. I don't listen to propoganda

The rest is just trolling, won't bother... no pleasing you man..

Question: Have you played in real life? Do you have any idea what it takes to do what they're doing?
Just read the long thread on the Premiership page regarding Mou and us Chelsea fans being too sensitive about his comments. Here is a little story about context to show my thoughts:

I'm barely taller than 5'7 (173cm). I'm not "holy f**k he's short", short. But I'm certainly not tall. In the US, I'm a bit below average (177cm). I am not crippled with insecurity because of my height, but I've been acutely aware of it my whole life: I suck at some sports or in some positions (I grew up as a CB and no coach tried to put me in a better position for someone of my size till it was too late at 18 years old...fuckers) where height is an advantage, girls who were taller than me never showed any interest, I have a hard time reaching the top shelf at the grocery store.

I had a girlfriend in my early 20's who was pretty much my same height. When we first started dating she would frequently wear high heels, and this would actually make her taller. I broke up with her after 2 years. During the break up, she threw out a few insults about how I'm short. Pretty mean things. Looking back, she pretty much stopped buying new heels and even wearing her olds ones after a few months of us together. She went almost 1.5 years not wearing high heels. It's clear she always was aware of my height, and she pulled out that card real fast during the break up.

A few years passed and we were both in different committed relationships. We shared the same peer group from university so we would frequently cross paths at events and were even pretty friendly for a while. However, she started a habit that really bothered me:

Almost anytime I ran into her around other people she would ask me how my relationship was, and she would -- without fail -- add a line about how "OMG you guys, Kyle and his girlfriend are like made for each other! They are such a cute little couple." My ex would say my current GF and I were the perfect size for each other because my GF is 5'2 (157cm).

Now, everyone else always heard that in a positive light; they would always think my ex was offering a genuine compliment. But I knew better because I knew the actual context. I heard her insults and jokes about my height. I knew she went 1.5 years without wearing high heels because she didn't want to be taller than me. While her literal words about me and my ex were not insulting, the context was. It was a coded message that she damn well knew would hurt. She could feign innocence and take free shots at me, while making me the bad guy -- the obsessed, overly sensitive guy -- if I responded at all.

This story is a perfect parable that demonstrates what is going on with Mou and Chelsea this season. Mou damn well knows that Chelsea has a tender insecurity that stems from years of being teased, belittled, and insulted for "anti football"/boring football/cowardice football/overly defensive football.

Just like with my story, if Mou (my ex) complimented Arsenal (another couple of average or above height) for their defensive capabilities ("cute little couple") it would actually be a compliment. But when Mou uses those words and concepts for Chelsea he is brandishing alllllll of the context that he damn well knows exists.

United fans:
Imagine if SAF left on weird terms and then gave an interview and said "MANU are playing great this year"

Arsenal fans:
Imagine if AW left on weird terms and then gave an interview and said "Arsenal is playing the best football in the league, they might actually finish this season strong"

Liverpool fans:
Imagine if King Kenny said "Pool should choose to rest some of their players in this League Cup game against United because they have an important league game in 4 days. Between a cup game against a big team like United and a league game against one of their league rivals, West Brom, they should really focus on the league game"

Barca fans:
Imagine losing to City and Pep saying "Barca played a great game. Yes they lost, but they put in a top top display. They were able to play their game, and at least they were able to keep more possession."

RM fans:
Imagine Ronaldo leaving and saying "RM is playing great in this year's UCL. I expect them to be the favorites in the final against Barca. Barca had a really tough time on the way to the final with ties against Bayern, Atleti, and Juventus but RM has the upper hand because they performed so well against Genk, Panathinaikos, and Viktoria Plzen"

Bayern fans:
f**k you guys, you're good at everything.
+10
Great read Kyle. I also recently heard it was 1-2 fans shouting Judas. Someone suggested Mourinho planted them ha. Which isn't that hard to believe.
+1
I for one hope we don't get lukaku, his great and scoring tons of goal but there is one aspect of his game which is still missing from his younger days.
Damn jose fielded 6-7 defenders at a time against middlesbrough to preserve a lead. He has not yet adapted to United's way of attacking football.
+5
..and he never will. It is all a PR exercise, him saying we play amazing football. They are playing exactly the way we did in his first season back, when it was not his own squad.
+4
Attacking football my foot...Must respect his talent of making people believe in it LOL!
+3
cant tell if you mugs are serious, how do you pick one or two games as representative of our season and how we are playing? before this week, we're easily in the top 5 in the league in possession, shots, clear cut chances, etc but our squad is clearly not in a good moment. several suspensions and injuries have hit our squad, and the accumulation of games has taken its toll. the boys did really well to dig in this last week. people like to talk s**t but these guys have been pushed to the max this week. russia thursday, chelsea monday with 60 minutes down to ten men, europa on thursday, and then the early kickoff on sunday. it's been a mad week, exacerbated by injuries and suspensions, but they dug deep and screw you for taking advantage of this situation to talk smack. our problem this season has been failing to take our chances, but without the big guns in all the games, we still managed to dig out respectable performances so for me thats all that matters. im more than happy with how our team's played, and this is someone who was concerned with how mourinho would play at united. Sure, he does make defensive subs late in games to hold on to narrow leads, but on the whole i think he's done well to adapt and take risks when we've needed goals (playing crazy systems, throwing all bodies forward etc) and to try and play good football for the most part. unfortunately when your players dont finish chances, there's not much you can do from the sideline, so people see our goal tally and assume we have not played well in attack but that's far from the case. we've not been consistently good, but in spades we have seen lovely stuff, better than we've seen since even before the last few years in the Fergie era.
+2
"but without the big guns in all the games, we still managed to dig out respectable performances so for me thats all that matters"

Exactly, and that is what should. Also, I have watched most United games this season, and they have played exactly like Chelsea's 2013-14 season. Lots of possession, lots of chances, conceding possession against title / top4 rivals, and failing to finish chances.

I know exactly what you guys were saying about Chelsea's style of play then.

Edit: 36% possession against a team in 19th place. Some example of "phenomenal" football.
+6
@SIF: when jose was the head of chelsea he didnt play ultra defensive all the time. He is not gonna play defensive all the time at United either. But look at the last 3 games in all competition and you can clearly see Jose has not changed his style to adapt to United's way of attacking football.
+1
Not saying he did wrong. Just saying he is who he is.
+1
I have to agree with SIF, given I didnt watch many of Mou's games at chelsea so I dont know how he went about his business in every game at Chelsea. But he has shown signs of playing attacking football, although results haven't always favored united.

At united he has generally been much more attacking than what we feared he would be, when he took over. He is labelled as a defensive coach, but even at Real Madrid his side were the most attacking side ever in history of the club, scored over 120 league goals.

At United, Only in the last two games has he been overtly attacking - and given the injuries piled up, its somewhat understandable.

If you ask me, its retarded to play 5 CBs at Middlesborough, but there are logical reasons for it. most of the team played just 2 days ago versus Rostov so maybe they arent fit enough to play 90 minutes.

To lay a general sweeping statement like "He has not yet adapted to United's way of attacking football" and "36% possession against a team in 19th place. Some example of "phenomenal" football." isnt exactly fair criticism, considering the way he has set up the team in most of the other games, but thats understandable coming from other fans. Infact, apart from Bailey, everyone else from the team he put out against Middlesbrough was the same squad left behind by LVG, so understandably they weren't the most attacking side around.
Mou has not changed one bit. As already been pointed out he's basically got United playing like Chelsea 13/14 season and here are the similarities;
-Stay tight and Conservative when away to big teams and try to hit on the counter with speed ✅
-Struggle against packed defences ✅
-be a bit adventurous at home to title rivals ✅
-Blow hot and cold against mid table teams who have the audacity to be a bit more adventurous ✅

Only other thing is having acquired all the players he wanted he had to excuse but to play attacking football whixh he tried to but as soin as results were not adding up he reverted to type.
+4
After the dour stuff that LVG played last season, I think United fans think it's a lot better than it really is under Jose. Relatively, it's a huge improvement.
+2
Nobody said Jose's team does not play attacking football. Just that you guys feel he was defensive minded all these year and now he changed because he wants to "PLay united way" is the biggest joke of the century.

How do people come-up with such sh*t is unbelievable. United are not even playing half as good of Jose's title winning team in 2014/2015 and yet you guys want to believe he changed his football style for united. Damn
+6
^^Agreed.
Don't act like it's coming out of fans' mouths. This is the stuff in the media, in the papers, on interviews, and even form Mourinho's own mouth about adapting to the club. There's a way utd are expected to play, plain and simple, whether thats when leading or when chasing a goal, there's a mentality expected on the pitch. LvG didnt meet that expectation and missed top 4 and so was sacked. That's all that needs to be said.
He is a master in selling stories if you dont know lol! Since that is what fans wanted to hear...he made them believe that he has changed brand of football for united :D

Chelsea under Jose(apart from last season where is lost players) played much much better than what united have played this season. When he did not change it for club like Real or most demanding owner in world football who is willing to buy anyone for a style of football. Why would he change for united ? I wont blame you guys for buying that story though.

Anyways we have been hearing about the "United brand of football" for too long...But nothing on the pitch so far. I have watched all united games against big teams this season and haven't see anything to suggest "attacking brand of football". Apart from one 1-0 narrow win against Spurs which was close game. Its been a snore fest.

SIF - Can you prove that Jose changed to attacking brand of football for united and before that he was defensive minded?

I can prove that his teams were attacking minded even before and switched to defensive mode when they played big teams since he does not like to lose. Which he is doing even now and will do for ever.
+3
@SiF: You are free to believe whatever you want mate. Jose does what Jose has always done. He will build a media narrative to suit his and his team's agenda. Your United has been playing Jose's brand of football, instead of the other way round.

Nothing wrong in it. Why will he change what has worked for him all his life?
+3
It's amazing seeing some Utd fans defend Jose like this lol not that long ago they were shouting f**k off Mourinho
+3
I never shouted f**k off Mou, Im not sure who did either

Funny tin' is seeing Chelsea fans still crying over their break up, they have a shiny new toy in Conte, and on their way to a title but still cant get over mourinho. That must say something about how hard Mou used to bang CFC lol its obvious most Chelsea fans are missing that and take to bitching about mou at every possible opportunity.
Vaaz...United is irrelevant and so is Mou to us. Even when we thrashed u 4 nil and ur Manager was begging to be spared further humiliation we didn't make too much fuss over it. Then Mou never said anything about Chelsea and not until the last few weeks which is why he's featuring in our discussions a lot more. Sorry to inform u that we enjoyed Mou and yes he banged us when he was still potent but these days u guys will need to give him a few doses of viagra to even get an decent action from him. The man is past his sell by date.
+4
@Vaaz: With that nonsense, why should anyone take you seriously?
+3
Chill Vaaz- We are only asking for attacking brands of football to which Jose has adapted for 1st time in life according to united fans....we have all been waiting for too long to see it on pitch.
+1
Liq you're right he's going to do his own thing and sure part of the media stuff is just PR, but as a brand UTD have to live up to certain expectations for behavior and performance and even if winning, if you are consistently not playing the right way the fans will turn just like they did with LvG and Moyes.

Listen the guy's managed for Madrid and they're the pickiest bunch of fans out there, with the nerve to whistle players/legends like Ronaldo but he managed there and he played great football. No one is saying he cant do it or hasnt done it be fore but Mourinho is known for destroying big away games with his defensive approach, and while he's done that to a certain extent here, we just want to see more attacking intent and risk taken just like we want to see certain institutions maintained such as playing young players. I think we've been surprised at what he's done when we're down a goal and he essentially throws the kitchen sink in getting as many forwards on the pitch as fergie once did and really going for it.

He honestly isnt doing much of playing youngsters that he takes a pass as bailly is young and getting minutes, martial is starting to play more. Shaw and TFM need to join in at some point.
When we had Torres, Eto'o and Ba, Mou would play all of them when chasing a goal and have only 3 defenders at the back.

Utd fans are surprised because they never watched a Mou team except for big games, and it's understandable I guess.
+4
^This.

When chasing games, he would constantly take Azpi / Cole off, replace him with a forward, and go 3-5-2. Once the goal was scored, he would then take off the forward who started, and put a defender on.

This is something he has done before, and is not unique to his time at United. Jose has always picked his battles, and he will always take risks against teams he knows his team should win against.
+3
Lol yeah well maybe we(I) didnt watch his teams enough outside of the big games, thats probably true.
