Mou also has to take some of the blame for the tactics he used today. We def didn't need oscar nor willian on the pitch to track back for this type of game today. Sunderland were going to pick their moment to attack, so why not start with 2 attackers instead of a cam...... Ba and eto'o starting upfront would have been perfect
bluff, possibly lacking a better target man up front is hampering our progress this season..
I think Mou has to take the blame in the sense that he hasn't been able to improve us in these types of games. Palace, Villa, WBA, WH, Sunderland and most likely Cardiff in two weeks time.

Same sh*t different bottom club.
yeah exactly, he needs to do something about this next season. Winning the title doesn't include just beating the big teams. It's more than that. This is his weakness atm
I think he took blame for it a long time ago, but many dismissed it as mind games.

He clearly stated we had no striker and all the ones we would want to go for in January are either too expensive or cup tied or both.

I don't understand how we all can be freaking out left and right when this was such an obvious problem that Mou has, once again, clearly stated would be fixed in his next year.

Guys, if strikers can't put the ball in the net with all the clear chances they had that is the player's fault, not the manager. The manager, as basic as this sounds, sets up the team tactically so the striker can have enough chances to score and the defense as solid as it can be to allow for the scoring to happen.

In all the games we lost, did we not have more than enough chances to score?

Plain and simple, we need new strikers during the summer window and until then I honestly don't see how we can complain or act surprised that this is happening.
+1
Definitely. We all know what's going to happen, yet he does nothing to (effectively) try to change it.
@Aatir precisely the reason i'd have liked to see more of Ba, he would'v been better starting some of those games as opposed to Torres. In fact, he should'v started today. The only reason i can think that he didn't was that Mou was saving him for Tuesday, same with Luiz

@Ghanakid21 Mourinho is not untouchable here, starting Torres against Palace was idiotic, and losing that many games to those kinds of clubs in the manner of which we'v done so especially with our resources and talent is just not acceptable im sorry.

I can understand 1-2 freak results here and there, but we are talking about the 6-8th time now, story of our club during the post Didier era, only this time it hurts a hell of a lot more. Better now then against Cardiff i guess.
@Theo, what are his options? Look at our attacking options and tell me what would you do better. He's already started Schurrle as a striker more than once and that was useless.

@Bluff, no one is untouchable, but that doesn't mean we blame people for things they don't have control over. No manager can pull a rabbit out of a hat and just win games without having proper strikers.

Even Fergie, who arguably won the league with a team on the verge of a collapse, had Rooney and RVP who put in great shifts up front.
+1
I said below, change formation.

We have changed formation several times during games and have been able to steal some goals, so why not ditch 4-2-3-1 for these games and try something else?
nvm, no point in this discussion now, lets see how things pan out after the summer window

at the beginning of the season i'd have taken 3rd or 4th and a long cup run, so i guess i shouldn't complain too much, potential is there.
comment from WAGNH

"if we had to rely on refereeing to beat bottom place sunderland we dont deserve s**t."

lmao true story

Any thoughts on how poor we are at set pieces these days?
You are right Ethio bcos of our inconsistency but Referees also play a crucial role in football, you can be screwed up by the referees (Obvredo rings bell) as well no matter how much performances you put on.
Do you consider penalty a set piece? Chelsea have been very poor defending penalties lol
Rui Faria obviously watched the Madrid derby:

Carbon copy lmao
Every PL loss this season has been right before a Champions League game. Damn these dudes can't focus
IMAGINE IF Ramires is the one who slipped... And concede the penalty... Lmao one can only imagine the amount of hate he'll get.

The fact that Azpi is well liked and consistent, doesnt get Bashing frm fans alike
+2
wasnt his fault that the ref gave a penalty was it? The thing is we expect more out of our players than they are showing as the title race heats up.. someone will always be in the spotlight.
Difference is, azpi can actually pass. ;p
Can you be banned for sarcasm? because Mourinho is about be banned so hard lol. Thankfully the season is already pretty much over for us.
+1
Yea sarcasm is like an offensive gesture to the FA. He even used sarcasm to the boss of all PL referees lol.

8 game ban tbf
Players can get carded for sarcastically applauding the ref so I guess it is technically possible for Jose to be reprimanded. I don't think he'll get punished though, it wasn't over the top sarcastic even though everyone knows he was being sarcastic.
#PrayforMourinho

i'm guessing 3-5 game touchline ban and fine
We should consider playing two strikers upfront starting from next season against the mid-table teams since we have trouble breaking them down anyways. In that case, it will give the defenders something to think about.
We just need a monster as a striker, a striker that can create pressure for defenders (3 defenders concentrate on 1 striker), a striker that can score with set-pieces, a striker that can take his chances out of nothing.

We did create multiple of chances in all those games that we lost but it was amount to nothing by not taking our chances
Just look at Liverpool. They play with two strikers so whenever they play against the stubborn teams, they score a lot of goals although they concede, while we are completely the opposite. They can kill theses teams with their potent attack.
Yep. Every time we start with 4-2-3-1 and have to change to a very weird formation during the game. Why not just practice with a new formation and use it from the start?
I don't see how we can be talking team formation when we don't even know who we have and the tactical option(s) he could provide us with.

With all the AMs we have at the moment, it makes sense to have a formation that allows for more mids than strikers, especially since none of them can really convert.

Imo, if we get Cavani or Falcao, I don't think we need two strikers up front.
Good news is there are only big teams in the CL
+1
how is it a good news for you?
+1
I suppose as we have played better this season against bigger teams..
+4
Problem is Atletico won't play like other big teams and dominate possession; they want to counter like us, and don't mind sitting back till they get that chance.
+1
I rather face the best teams in the world and play counter than playing teams that sit back, which we have no clue to dissect them
You have point though Kaiba. however, if i compare theirs defense with sunderland's defense, they are miles ahead.
Atletico is anybody's game, and we will be the under dogs against them. The kind of energy and pace they have shown this season is tremendous, with no sign of slowing down.

Their last game against Barca is a testament of it as they were slightly unlucky to win by just one goal. This is an uphill climb and will be extremely difficult to get past them.
In a game where we clearly needed goals, what does it say that our #10 gets taken off right after half time? For the first time in months our destiny was in our hands and we burn it to ashes in a matter of 90mns. Speaks volumes about the (lack) of character and football IQ in some of these players we have in the team.

Also Jose, please take some responsibility. Ramires was so terrible vs swansea that he was taken off at half time, why start him today? After watching the game today, the last person that should be blamed is the referee. In fact today Ramires should've been sent after 30mns (the FA, will ban him regardless)
I think we will see Luiz and Lampard against Atletico, so Ramires had to play.

Etoo should have been there, as he can play with the ball and create chances better than Torres or BA.

There was one moment though which kind of sums up how we played, which was Willian passing it to Eto on the counter when Salah was free and could have buried the game. That was really poor decision from him then... speaks about our no 10's
