Chelsea have made a major breakthrough in negotiations for Alex Sandro. £64m. 5-year deal. Medicals next week. (Standard)
Conte about why he let Matic and Costa go

‘The coach must be in total control of the dressing room otherwise there is anarchy,’Antonio Conte explains why Matic is training alone at
Chelsea after Man Utd's interest

‘If you lose control, anything can happen and probably you will be sacked in one or two months. If you are lucky three months.
‘It is more difficult. When I was a footballer, the club had more power.

If you give education and respect, you must demand education and respect. It is logical that when you must be tough, you must be tough.
‘Then it is right when you have 22 players, it is right to have the same behaviour with all the players – not because one is young and they are different. That is not good.

‘If a player makes a mistake, a young player or an old player, you must underline it and help improve the player to help avoid the mistake in the future.

‘Otherwise, if I go and am very strict only with the young player and not the old players, it is not the right way to have respect from the dressing room.

‘The players are at the same level and sometimes I demand more from the old players than the young players – they have more experience to teach the young players the right behaviour.’

Conte on BAKAYOKO & CHALOBAH

“I think, honestly, at this moment there is a great difference between the two players. You are talking about one player who has played with Monaco, who has maybe 100 appearances for that club. He has played in the Champions League and has played regularly.”

“Try to understand the difference before you judge. People who do [judge], do not understand the difference.”

“You have to take a decision and to understand what is best for the club. Sometimes young players lose their patience very quickly, a lot of time because of parents or the people around them.”

“Trust the club, work very hard because to play at this level you must be stronger — and very good. Sometimes young players think that they can play easily in the first team but that’s not true.”

“I repeat, now every single player wants to play regularly. They want to play in every game. But I have to pick 11 players. Not only me, every coach.”
I agree with Conte's general sentiments, but I'll also play Devil's Advocate here. If you're a player like Chalobah, to what degree should you trust in the club? Of course, you see it all the time when a player thinks they're ready when they're not, but then you get instances (like United and Pogba) where the club really does make a mistake. There are maybe a few clubs in the league that truly invest in turning their youth players into professionals at that same club, so part of me can't blame these young guys for getting impatient.
^ Agree its not a mistake of manager or youngster.. I already mentioned once why managers of club like United,Chelsea, City cannot afford to risk developing and risk losing job. One or two academy player who are good enough still get chance..But, I dont see why we should cry every time a academy player leaves.

Because the club demands trophies and is ready to spend. I think they would not listen to excuses from managers if they dont win anything. So managers also do not care much about developing young players unless they are too good and deserves to play.

I can make a case of Moses who nobody thought would make starting XI...but he took his chances. We can expect everyone to do the same and some players might never get chance to play at all.

Atleast Chalobha got 15 games last year for 1st time after being part of many pre-season tours. I dont blame manager or player for parting away. Both chose whats best for them
Roman Abramovich has donated £232m in two years to a charity called 'Fulfilling Dreams' which helps ill football fans to travel the world 👏🏻

'For me, Kane, now, is one of the best strikers in the world,' said Conte. 'If I had to buy one striker I would go to Kane.'He is a complete striker. He is strong physically with the ball, without the ball, he fights and he's strong in the air and acrobatic on the right and the left. He's a complete player. If you go to buy Kane now, it would be at least £100million. At least.'For me, if I see this price for a striker I know for sure he's a big striker. Dele Alli is another top player, young.'

'Every player is expensive,' said Conte. 'You go to buy a right back, a left back or a central defender and he is expensive. If you want Kyle Walker, you know Walker is expensive. We tried to buy Walker. It is very difficult for the teams that need to improve their squads.'

Antonio Conte
lol, he's totally rubbished Spurs in some of his other comments. The real Conte is starting to come out.
^ I dont get when you say "Real conte is starting to come out". Conte is something else which non of us know?

Regarding rubbishing spurs. If you are referring to the comment below. I think even spurs fans would agree with that and it is based on the fact that club is now spending like other top teams and questioning sustainability. Hence the expectation is manageable and they do not need to win trophies. Whereas for other top club its a must win situation after spending millions in the market.

BBC- Spurs chairman Daniel Levy criticised unsustainable transfer spending and defended his club's lack of signings.

Italian Conte agreed that the market was "very difficult".“If they don’t win the title, it’s not a tragedy,” he said. “If they don’t arrive in the Champions League, it’s not a tragedy. For Chelsea, Arsenal, City, United and... I don’t know... Liverpool, it is a tragedy.”

"Every team has to understand what their ambitions are. If their ambitions are to fight for the title or try to win the Champions League, you must buy expensive players. Otherwise you continue to stay in your level. It's simple."

"My question is this: What are Tottenham's expectations?"

He was asked by reporter about his view and Levy's comment about others team spending and not being able to sustain it for long. So he gave explanation of why spending is necessary and without which you cannot win in current situation. if Spurs do not want to spend its good for everyone. They will eventually fall below other big teams and lose players. So what is levy's expectation for Spurs?
Honestly, more than rubbishing Spurs, it is more a message to the Chelsea board to give him more players.

Also, Conte was a lot more combative on and off the field in Italy than he has shown us all so far in England. This may change as he becomes more comfortable with the language. This definitely seems to be an example.
Conte was playing mind games last season too , he was praising City every chance he got , now he is doing that with Spurs
If anything i have heard good things about Conte by Juve fans...Both on and off field.
No one said being combative is a bad thing.

Having just caught the highlights, im curious how Morata did?

Im guessing he came on late but did he command a prensence, some glimpse of greatness?
check-out Morata highlights

I think you guys "lucked out" and Morata will be way more effective than Lukaku. I think Lukaku could struggle not being the focal part of a counter-attack team. Morata is so much more cerebral and well-rounded.

This Matic situation is beginning to do my head it and if anyone here knows better than I do please do help me out.

Matic was one of the first names on the starting line-up last season so I dont get why he's frozen out now. Realistically not joining the pre season training kind of points to the fact that he's not staying this season but then it does weaken the Club's hand in negotiations bcos Clubs can see he's obviously not wanted and will try to get him cheap. I saw pictures of him training today with a Chelsea coach and it kinda put this idea in my head that just maybe he's there for other reasons as I dont see why we'd have a coach training him when he's not in our plans. Or are we hiding him at Cobham so other Clubs dont whisper sweet nothings in his ears?

We have not been linked to any other Cm or DM so at this point I'm rather leaning towards Matic staying by extending his contract on better terms or let it run down and walk free next season. Clearly Conte doesn't want him to leave otherwise we'd have heard him say so or at least allude to it in his pressers this pre season. Maybe Natuc is miffed bcos we were getting Bakayoko but I hope Conte makes him stay like he did Costa last summer.
Conte did mention that he thinks Bakayoko should be fit for the Community Shield game.

When Conte arrived, 2 players told him they wanted to leave (Matic and Costa)- Both players said so themselves.

Coach convinced them to stay... did he promise not to stand in their way after the season? most likely ---he hinted that Costa and his agent knew this after the January Saga.

Matic wasn't always first on the team sheet--there were times when Fab played over him and with Bakayoko being bought, I'm sure he will be aware that competition would even be steeper. So I'm pretty sure he himself wants to leave and I believe he'll leave.

Reports and links show that we are in for a Midfielder, RB, LB and another striker.

I am 100% sure we aren't done yet and at least 2 more players will come in... But yeah I think Matic is gone
+2
Being first on the team sheet means nothing.Matic was s**t most of last season,he offered no kind of presences in midfield. That and the fact he wanted to leave,so 50 million for Matic lol, absolute robbery.
TWB- thanks for your comprehensive reply. I agree with most of it and as we are all postulating I'll like to add another probable side to this conundrum.

We know Matic was re-signed in January 2014 on a 5 and half year contract and has not had any extension or improvement on his contract since then. Maybe at 28 and knowing that the Club will not offer him more than 1 year contract when he hits 30 perhaps he thinks this is his last chance to get a raise or move for better offer to see him into his 30s with retirement looming.

Whatever it is I hope we sell him abroad if we have to and sign a quality CM or DM otherwise it will be a kamikaze act to have sold Chalobah, Ake and Matic and replacing them with just Bakayoko.

Having said that I think Matic is 80% likely to stay. A little bird whispered in my ear that Hazard and Pedro have been assigned the job of convincing him to stay
+1
what little bird hehe? Wasnt United going for him?
Kokm...my little bird only tells me things :P.

I doubt we'll sell to United unless we need something from them in return which we dont. I think if he's leaving it will be to a team we can use him as leverage for one if theirs.
We will buy Ox and play him in midfield if Matic leaves.
Conte never trusted a Fab-Kante midfield which is why he played Matic-Kante so we shouldn't be too downcast about the result of yesterday's game. If anything it will spur thr board into action yo get us the signings Conte wants.

Danilo has confirmed he chose City over us so it means we are certainly in for a RWB. Hopefully we get a CM as well but it will really be a statement if we sign Sandro. At this point Sandro alone will do for me we can play 3-5-2 if necessary.
We dodged a bullet with Danilo, he can't defend and is a big disappointment
Sandro is an LB, he'd start at the left but it won't solve our problems on the right. He'd be a great signing but we definitely need a CM and an RWB this window, we're paper thin when it comes to depth
I assumed Matic aint gone yet and its a no brainer that if he leaves we will get someone. A LWB is priority bcos with Cahil and Alonso on that side teams could target them with speedy players like they target Azpi and Moses with crosses last season.
I actually really like Alonso for the lwb spot.

I think he did an outstanding job last season, good covering and he fights for every ball.
Plus, he gets goals with his great shooting tecnique and offers assists through decent crossing as well.

We need someone for depth yes, but i can easily see Alonso keeping his spot, last season was his first in PL and he can surely improve now, with gained experience.
I just noticed on the Chelsea v Bayern video at 9:53 there is a fan with a "Wenger Out" sign XD
