On song: Barnsley's Adam Hammill
Observer fans' network - 3 years ago

The lowdown A 2006 FA Youth Cup final winner against Manchester City, this scouse winger couldn't persuade Rafael Benítez he was worth a go in Liverpool's first team. Various loan spells (one at Dunfermline included a Scottish Cup final appearance) culminated in four months at Oakwell, which led to a transfer in August 2009. Last month he had a hand in all the goals in a 5-2 win against Leeds, scoring the last.

View from the terrace Last season's enigma has become this season's star player. Signed up after a dazzling loan spell, he then struggled initially to secure a regular starting place. This season, though, in a series of stunning performances he has terrorised defences – notably Leeds' – with his speed and skill, along with finishing that would grace any Premier League game. The Oakwell terraces will often ring out to "Adam Hammill is a red" in honour of our new hero. Let's hope this superb run of form continues, and let's see where his mercurial skills take him and Barnsley FC.
