Benteke...

:(
:(

Such sad news. He was amazing last season, had high hopes for him at the WC. Sad that we won't be seeing him.

Hopeflly he comes back stronger than before!

So what do you think the formation will be now?

Courtious
Gillet - Komp - Vermaelen - Vertonghen
Witsel - Nainggolan
Mirallas - De Bruyne - Hazard
Lukaku

That's what I'm thinking! But then thats leaving out Mertens, Dembele, Fellaini, Chadli.
I'd replace Gillet, who has been poor this season for Anderlecht and never completely convinced me with Belgium, with Club Brugge's Thomas Meunier. He's a really excellent prospect and has been amazing this season. He's big, strong and fast, but also very good in attack and good in defense. While he'll still be a weak link if he joins Belgium (due to a lack of experience rather than a lack of quality), he's the best choice for a RB.

I agree with your defensive midfield though; I love Nainggolan and Witsel is one of our most essential players, so he needs to be on. Mirallas I'd replace with De Bruyne, who's always been sublime for Belgium playing on that wing. Although, come to think of it, now that his buddy Benteke is gone, his crossing might not be as useful. Perhaps leave KDB in the AM position and get Mertens on that wing. I agree with all other positions.

Furthermore, I'd really like Thorgan Hazard and Maxime Lestienne to join Belgium as super-subs like Mertens usually is. Michy Batshuayi is a very big talent too, but since he barely played for Belgium and probably isn't good enough against real top teams yet, he should also be a sub. Dembélé's Tottenham is s**t at the moment, which is the only reason I'd leave him out of the starting 11. Moussa is one of my favourites, but you need confidence, and perhaps he's lacking that. Depending on form and fitness, Nainggolan or him should play. But right now, that's Radja.
This is great news!

I really hope he chooses Belgium. After all, we are a country that's a melting pot of different cultures and backgrounds. I myself have a father from Antwerp and a mother from the Netherlands but still consider myself a proud Belgian (though I love my Dutch family). I'm sure most young Belgians have roots abroad, whether it's their parents grandparents or even themselves who were born elsewhere.

Just look at our stars: Kompany, Benteke, Lukaku (Batshuayi and M'poku too) have Congolese roots, Fellaini and Chadli have Moroccan roots, Dembélé is part Malinese, Witsel's father is from Martinique, Naingolan has Indonesian roots and I believe even De Bruyne has roots in England. That's half of our squad who could've chosen a different country, but wanted to play for the nation they grew up in. I'm hoping Adnan will do the same.
Dissapointing result again, the team deserved that after an extremely sloppy second half. Hypothetically speaking that's only 2 out of 12 points if I'm not mistaken. And what's up with Kompany? So poor throughout the whole game.

First half was great though. KDB, Witsel and Mertens displayed some brilliant combinations, carving through their defense like butter. Makes me doubt if Hazard should be a starter as he usually slows the game down because he doesn't make the runs Mertens or Mirallas do.
Yeah, it was shaping up to be a pretty good game, but defensive mistakes and bad luck cost us. Good lesson, I guess: blast the ball away from danger when it's lying in front of the goal and top strikers are nearby.

Love this.
Most likely World Cup scenario:

We win our group with our eyes closed.
We teach Ronaldo how to play football in the round of 16.
We send Messi home in the quarter finals.
We annihilate Spain with 5-0 in the semis.
We dance the Samba after we beat Brazil in the final.
+2
Or you could underestimate your opposition, just sneak into the second round and lose to the Germans.

Yeah but what are the chances of that happening, Sam?

My money is on Jeroen's scenario!

I already sold all my stuff and placed a bet on us winning the WC exactly the way I predicted here. Odds are about 70/30 in favour of Belgium doing that I think, but it's worth the risk.

Man I'm so excited already! Suddenly I'm not that oposed to a winter World Cup :D On first sight I'd say we have a great chance to finish first in our group, but tbh both Algeria and Korea are big mysteries for me.
Belgium is very lucky for once! We're in group H, where the games are played in the south in a cooler climate and travel distances aren't huge. And our rivals are all beatable teams; Russia, South Korea and Algeria.

Kinda wished we faced Portugal.

Actually I REALLY wanted that.
We'll probably face Portugal in the 2nd round if we finish first in our group.
Yeah, and I'm afraid we're gonna lose to them. But what is a World Cup without one big challenge to overcome? For that reason I kind of wished out group was a bit tougher. We won't feel good if we make it through because we HAVE to, and we'll be devastated if we don't. When you go through in a tough group, the whole WC is a success already.

So, bring on the big countries, we're gonna win this thing ;D
So what's gonna happen to Adnan? I'd like his father to finally understand he should be grateful for what Belgium has done for him and his family instead of constantly moaning and whining about the country that saved his ass from the war, or he should get a disease where he's never able to speak when it's about his son and HIS life.

I hope Adnan chooses for Belgium and I'd like to know whether he likes Belgium or if he's of the same mind as his dad. I fear the latter.
I'd would love him to choose belgium also ! but i fear that as you said his dad takes all the decision for him at every level so i wouldn't expect that to happen, shame because im sure that if he took the decision himself, the chance to play at a world cup and euro would clearly be tempting for him !
Seemingly this team is even stronger than the Scifo one.
Thank You Wilmots for this team and great spirit !

You will do us proud in Brazil ! Keep up the good work and everything is possible !
