What the hell is wrong with Kompany?! He's been playing like an arrogant ass all season long. Stupid red cards, even dumber tricks he has no business trying on positions he shouldn't be in. And when he fails to pull off one of his useless stunts, he wrestles the opposition player who outsmarted him to the ground. I've seen this more than a few times now, a player of his calibre and intelligence should DEFINITELY know better.

When some careful criticism was heard suggesting he may be over his top level, he ridiculed those people. Well, it looks like they were right. Physically he's still top, but mentally he's been struggling to be as good as a few years ago for more than just this season. Not focussed enough, arrogant and quite simply prone to making dumb mistakes.
I had kind of hoped Malanda would be remembered today, but after a good 5-0 I can't complain :) If there is some sort of afterlife, I am sure he's smiling!
Inderdaad, vind ook dat dat had moeten gebeuren. Heb wel genoten van een zalige match!:)

Rest in peace Junior Malanda :'(

I can't believe it. This is like Sterchele all over again! God damn it! Why did your mates have to speed in such terrible weather man? Are the hundreds of deaths a year because of speeding not enough to learn? I'll never drive irresponsibly like that, especially with others aboard.

God f*****g damn it! What a terrible start of the year :(
Went to see Belgium-Iceland yesterday, was not disappointed :) Origi will become a legend one day! Fellaini was discretely great, Courtois was amazing again and I'm happy for Praet and especially Thomas Meunier to play a game as well.
Daniel Van Buyten wrote a goodbye letter to the public, more specifically to Anderlecht (who were rumoured to take him in after a great World Cup).

-------------------------------

'Taking an important decision is often very hard. I experienced that in the past few days. And reason often trumps emotion. It was my goal to end my career after a good World Cup so I could give back a little bit to the country that gave me so much.

Since January I've worked very hard and with the utmost professionality to prepare for that fantastic event. My body suffered because of this. After our return from Brazil I was presented with several options from clubs, which flattered me. The efforts from RSC Anderlecht especially were very flattering.

But the people who know me well know that if I do something, I do it the full 100%. I tried in these past few weeks, but my body says it's simply no longer possible. I don't want to disappoint Anderlecht and the fans when I continue and cannot fulfill their hopes.

Football is my life: so it is with great reluctance that I decided to lay down Anderlecht's offer. I want to thank Anderlecht's president Vanden Stock, Herman Van Holsbeeck and the coach. They are true gentlemen.

For me a new life starts now: I want to spend more time with my wife and children and the people I love.

Daniel.'

Goodbye Dan. You are an exemplary player, a true professional and a real patriotic footballer. I'll miss you, but I also look forward to seeing you again one day in a coaching role or perhaps as a football pundit.

Disappointing.

Still, reaching the quarter finals is nice, and what I expected before the WC started. But the level of football has been poor nonetheless. We can do much better than that; the only good game was the USA one, where we displayed what a well-knit group of top players can do on a national level.
Lol, the atmosphere in the Belgium team is great: Alderweireld was asked about the goalkeepers of Belgium, Thibaut Courtois particularly, and he replied that Thibaut is a good keeper, but Mignolet and Bossut haven't conceded a single goal while Thibaut already conceded two and is taking the average down a lot.

They constantly joke about like that, it's something I've never seen before. Usually we fans are just swamped with predictable politically correct answers that are more boring than the France-Germany game we just saw. I'm glad the Belgians, Hazard, Dembélé, Vertonghen and Alderweireld especially, brighten up those typically boring interviews. It shows the spirit is great in the team.
Some awesome facts from yesterdays game (OptaStats):

39 - Only three team between 1966 & 2014 have recorded more shots in a WC-game than Belgium's total of 39. Deluge.

10 - Kevin de Bruyne has created 10 chances vs USA, the most for a player in a World Cup match since 1982 (Strachan vs New Zealand). Hot.

83 - #BEL have had more shots than any other team in the 2014 World Cup; they've also had the most attempts on target (32). Trigger.

Lukaku, De Bruyne and Vertongen have been named in FIFA's team for the round of 16 games.

67 - USA made 67 clearances in their game against Belgium, one more than England made in their three games combined. Passion.

15 - @TimHowardGK made 15 saves tonight, a record in a World Cup game since Opta records began (1966). Legend.

I am SO happy KDB is on fire again. Our best player of the tournament so far. Looking at him at Chelsea was worse than pouring lemon juice in my eyes. He's a fantastic player, an allround great midfielder with the vision and passing skill of the very best. I am still angry Mourinho told him to stay at Chelsea (and then never gave him a chance) last summer when Dortmund had a €25m bid for him. He would have been perfect with Klopp and BVB.
