I think your were talking about 3-5-2 formation. Mancini is an italian coach and italian successfully uses this formation in almost every match. Man city is playing high risk football and putting more number of players forward which left only three players at the back to be exposed. In case of juve (which also uses 3-5-2 formation) when they lose possession their wingers (on the extreme ends of the 5 players line midfield) quickly get back to the right and left back position which in total provide a 5 defence players and is hard to break. So what I get is that your wingers have to take the extra responsibility of covering the back three line up
