Currently in Spain. Spent most of my life in England, living in Fulham though. a couple of miles away from Stamford Bridge. Watched my first Chelsea match and support them till I die. As I live in Catalonia, Barcelona has made us proud and will be behind them all the way!

There is a big difference between catalan and spanish. Catalan is a separate language entirely from spanish and though they are related to each other, someone who speaks spanish wont be able to understand spoken catalan completely, exept for a few words.
Catalan is the most unique of the Iberian Romance languages, and it's closest relative is Occitan, the language of southern France. Catalonia shares a great deal of cultural aspects with Southern France as well, and many linguists believe that the two languages are different branches of the same linguistic family. Catalan also shares several features in common with French, and a first impression would be that the language sounds like a mix of French & Spanish.
