API Overview

The openfooty API allows you to call methods that respond in REST style xml. API methods are covered in greater detail in the menu on the left.

The API root URL is located at http://v1.openfooty.org/

Generally speaking, you will send a method parameter expressed as 'package.method' along with method specific arguments to the root URL. The API supports multiple transport formats including; JSON and PHP Serialized Array, but will respond in openfooty idiom xml by default.

Please Note:

* You must use an identifiable User-Agent header on all requests. The User-Agent being used, must match the one you provided us with when you setup your API account. This helps us with our logging and will aid you should we need to troubleshoot any problems that you may be having with the API.

* Please use common sense when making requests to the openfooty service. We do not have unlimited resources, so do cache your queries whenever possible. We recommend the memcache daemon for such purposes.

Usage Quota

Rates are limited to 5000 requests per day. These quotas reset at midnight GMT.

5000 requests should be plenty provided your are properly caching your queries, but if you believe your application is going to go over the 5000 limit, do get in touch, and we'll look into increasing your limit.

* Be aware that your account may be suspended if you consistently over reach your daily Quota limits, or if your application is continuously making several calls per second. Be nice to our servers and use sleep() commands to spread out the load wherever necessary. See our terms of service for more details.

Terms of Use

openfooty is free to use for non-commercial applications. However, we do reserve the right to review and/or refuse applications, and in some circumstances may need to discuss your application use in more detail.

If you own a blog or hobby site, and you are barely covering server costs through advertising, we do consider this non-commercial, but it's always best to give us a yell if you are unsure.

We check all API implementations on a regular basis to ensure you are adhering to our term of use, so please honour the spirit of this project and be honest about your intended use / commercial gains from the service.

For commercial uses of the API get in touch, and we'll have a nice friendly chat about your requirements.

Attribution

All applications that make use of the openfooty API must display attribution. so that you can help us spread the word about this awesome service :)

You can view and download attribution insignia here. Unbranded versions may be okayed in very special circumstances and/or for commercial application uses.

Developer Forum

Do say hello over in the openfooty developer forum to discuss all aspects of the API; from support queries, to cool ideas not yet implemented, we're only too happy to hear your feedback and find out more about how you are using the API to power your football website. We hope to put together a developer showcase soon with some examples of the fantastic stuff that you guys are doing with our data, so do let us know when your application is ready.

Support

Do remember that we're a small team with a lot of world domination plans, and you will often get a faster response to your problem from the developer community. So, if you require support, please, please, please check the developer forum before emailing us support queries. In most cases, your query will have already been answered.

On the rare occasion that the developer forum is of no help, you can lodge a support query here

That's all folks

For now.

Expect us to regularly update the API as new features are unveiled on footytube.

We will automatically inform all API Key holders of new versions via email, and if you have any feature requests of your own for version 2, do drop us a note in the developer forum.

We can't make it happen if you don't tell us :)
