Yaya Touré should be fit for FA Cup final despite muscle fatigue

• Manchester City monitoring midfielder ahead of Wembley date
• 'Muscle problem' rules him out of Swansea game on Tuesday

Yaya Touré should be available for Saturday's FA Cup final against Wigan Athletic, despite the Manchester City midfielder being taken off at half-time during Saturday's goalless draw at Swansea City with muscle fatigue.

The Ivorian will almost certainly miss the league visit of West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening as the club continue to monitor his fitness. Yet the "muscle problem" that forced him off at the Liberty Stadium is not thought to be serious.

Touré suffered the problem during the warm-up at Swansea and was replaced as a precaution, with Roberto Mancini conscious that the midfielder's proven pedigree at Wembley will be invaluable for Saturday's Cup final.

When City won the trophy two years ago Touré scored the winner in both the semi-final against Manchester United, and Stoke City in the final.

Following the Swansea match, Mancini said: "Yaya had a problem in the warm-up and he was not 100%. His muscle was tired, for this reason we took him off from the pitch."

Regarding the Cup final Vincent Kompany does not believe the West Brom match is a distraction. "I don't think that way," the captain said. "Saturday is a big, big day for the club as the FA Cup final is massive and everyone realises that. But it would be good to beat West Brom, as that would set us up nicely to focus on the final. It would be a crime to take days like this coming Saturday for granted. It is another a huge day in the history of the club – a red mark in our calendar, and we have to try to be at our best on the day."

Roberto Mancini will rest some players to keep them fresh for Saturday as he targets a third major trophy in three full seasons at the club. He said: "We need to change because we play three days [after the Swansea game] and we need some fresh players. We need to beat West Brom and get second position, then we can play the next three games with no problem. But West Brom are a good football side who have had a fantastic season and we will need to play well if we want to beat them. A good team should have a good mentality in this game, and then we have four days to recover before the final. We need to play with five or six fresh players, for sure. I have not yet decided my Cup final team – we will only talk about it after tonight's game."

While Touré and Scott Sinclair, who is out for the season's finale with a blood clot, are Mancini's only injury concerns, Wigan have two players who are doubts for the Cup final.

The midfielder Jean Beausejour is ruled out of Tuesday evening's visit of Swansea due to a hamstring strain, while the centre-back Antolín Alcaraz is unlikely to feature having been missing for the last two weeks due to a similar problem. Last week, Maynor Figueroa suffered a groin injury that ruled the defender out until next season.
