Roy Hodgson puts Twitter spat behind him to appear on Match of the Day

• The England manager will face Gary Lineker despite fallout
• Lineker tweets England 'have the quality to qualify'

Roy Hodgson will become the first serving England manager in modern times to appear as an analyst on the BBC's Match of the Day on Saturday having apparently made his peace with the programme's presenter, Gary Lineker, following criticisms on Twitter over the national team's recent displays.

Lineker had described some of the players' passing in Ukraine last month as "woeful", adding: "When you see England pass it like they've never been introduced to each other, it does make you wonder why [Michael] Carrick doesn't feature."

Those comments provoked an angry reaction from Hodgson though the manager telephoned the former England striker recently, he had "not had a pop at him at all".

Lineker took to Twitter again on Thursday upon the announcement of Hodgson's 23-man squad."There should be enough quality in the England squad to see off 2 mediocre sides and qualify for #brazil2014. Let's hope they all stay fit."
