• Signing of Mohamed Salah last of transfer window
• Nemanja Matić was Mourinho's only initial target
José Mourinho said that with Juan Mata close to completing his £37m move to Manchester United, Chelsea have shut up shop for January and there will be no more transfer activity at his club in this window.
Mata's transfer is very close to completion, according to sources at United, and the Spaniard flew to the club's Carrington training complex by helicopter on Saturday, to be greeted by David Moyes. Once the deal is finalised, Mata is expected to go into the squad for United's Premier League match against Cardiff City on Tuesday.
Mourinho is poised to capture Basel's Mohammed Salah, whose medical and personal terms are considered a formality. The Egyptian winger will become Chelsea's third signing of the month after Bertrand Traoré and Nemanja Matic. "Hopefully, we are done," Mourinho said. "We are not bringing in a striker in this window."
Mourinho, whose immediate focus is on Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round tie with Stoke, said: "We would only have done Nemanja this window if we hadn't lost a player [Mata], but we are trying to keep the level and improve, to improve the team, to improve the squad, to change the style of play, and we're still trying to get results and still trying to win matches. We need that mixture of young players growing up and experienced players giving stability to the team.
"We are doing that. You can see what we're trying to do. Nemanja is 26, Salah 21, so we are trying to build a team for the future. We're doing fine. We're calm."
