SPL round-up: Billy McKay's two goals inspire Inverness to beat Dundee
• Dundee six points adrift at bottom of the SPL after defeat
• Aberdeen earn win despite lowest home crowd of the season

Billy McKay continued his scoring streak with a two goals against Dundee in a 4-1 win that sent Inverness back to second in the Scottish Premier League.

McKay scored the opener from the penalty spot after Declan Gallacher had fouled Richie Foran and McKay took advantage of some poor play from the visitors to put Caley Thistle 3-1 up just after the interval and take his goal tally for the season to 18.

The former Northampton striker has now scored in seven consecutive matches and has seven goals in his last three games, topping the SPL scoring charts with 15.

A long-range effort from Owain Tudur-Jones and a goal from Andrew Shinnie also assisted in moving Caley Thistle above Motherwell.

Terry Butcher's side, who remain in both cups, have now scored 53 times in all domestic competitions.

The Dundee midfielder Nicky Riley cancelled out McKay's opener and there was little between the two side's in the first half but the home side were dominant after the break. Dundee remain bottom of the SPL, six points adrift of Ross County.

Niall McGinn scored twice and inspired Aberdeen to beat St Johnstone 2-0 at a storm-lashed Pittodrie.

The Dons were profligate in the first half, with McGinn twice denied by Alan Mannus, as Frazer Wright lashed St Johnstone's only effort over the crossbar. The Northern Irishman atoned when he scored from a free-kick after 63 minutes in front of the lowest home attendance of the season at Pittodrie, 7,051.

McGinn's sealed the victory with his 11th of the season after 81 minutes as Aberdeen ended a three-match winless run in the SPL and climbed to fourth, above Saints, who are without a win in four matches. Kilmarnock host Hibernian at Rugby Park tomorrow and Dundee United visit Hearts with the Edinburgh side looking to pick up the win that will lift them above United in the table.
