Rangers have begun life in the Scottish Third Division with a nervy 2-2 draw at Peterhead.

It appeared the newco club, relegated from the Scottish Premier League for financial irregularities, were set for a shock defeat when Scott McLaughlin gave the hosts the lead on 82 minutes in front of a crowd of 4,485 at Balmoor but Ally McCoist's side drew level in the 90th minute thanks to Kevin Kyle.

Rangers had taken the lead through Barry McKay on 27 minutes before Rory McAllister equalised for Peterhead on 64 minutes.

"We defended appallingly," conceded McCoist. "If our boys at any time thought this would be a cakewalk, they know where they are now. I didn't think we could defend as poorly as that but we did, so that's a concern. But we'll create chances and score goals in this division, so there's no need to panic."

Rangers' next league game is a home contest with East Stirling on Saturday.
