Harry Redknapp has dismissed Samir Nasri's claim that his primary motivation for moving to Manchester City is to win trophies and insisted that the Frenchman's head was ultimately turned by a sizeable increase in his salary.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham's Premier League meeting with Cityon Sunday, when Nasri could make his debut for the visitors having completed a £24m move from Arsenal on Wednesday, Redknapp, the Spurs manager, said: "He [Nasri] could have gone to Manchester United, they wanted him and he wanted to go there, but then Man City came in and offered him more money so he went to Man City. That's how it goes, we have to be realistic. When people get offered the chance to treble their wages, they're going to think about it, anybody would."

While Nasri has not quite trebled his wages by moving to the Etihad Stadium, his four-year, £173,000-a-week contract does mean he has all but doubled what he was earning at the Emirates Stadium. The 24-year-old insists, however, that his "choice is about football".

"It's certainly not just about the money with City," Redknapp said. "Players will look at them and think: 'This team can win the Champions League in the next couple of years and I want to be part of that.' I would say their squad is stronger than Barcelona's, and eventually they will be challenging for everything. I'm sure they'll win the Premier League one day."

Redknapp has confirmed Luka Modric will make his first appearance for Spurs on Sundayhaving been told in a meeting with the club's chairman, Daniel Levy, on Thursday that he will definitely not be allowed to join Chelsea before the transfer window closes next week. And likely to join the pair is Scott Parker after the West Ham manager, Sam Allardyce, announced that the Championship club are in talks with Spurs over a transfer for the 30-year-old midfielder, whom Redknapp has been chasing since last season. A £7m deal is expected to be completed over the weekend.

The draw for the Europa League also took place on Friday and saw Spurs drawn alongside Rubin Kazan, Paok Salonika, and, most intriguingly, Shamrock Rovers in Group A of the competition.

He was asked to talk by the reporter...

He didn't randomly just start talking about Nasri and asked to get his opinions published. Why don't you shut your mouth? No respect at all for one of the great English managers.

Also, did you read the article or just the headline? Is this how lazy MC supporters are now? Cause he actually said something good about your team...
Lol what Riyas your eyes have finally been opened to the truth that players generally join Man City for money?
LOL why don't you talk about Modric ffs

He wasn't asked about Modric. He did do an interview about Modric though and I believe another article covered that, why don't you look around instead of bitching about this article if you really wanted to hear his opinion on Modric? Jesus christ, you guys are stupid.
I feel as though Harry Redknapp is interviewed to much or something. Because he always seems to say something every week. And it's mostly not about his players.
Exactly, how I'm feeling about all this. How do you expect Redknapp to give you an accurate analysis of Nasri's move? Why don't you ask Mancini? Maybe even ask Wenger who probably knows him best?
@hatersabove&below:

Did you even read the full article? He also said:

He did have a good point with Manchester United.

Sorry guys, but he's probably right.

yeah. Mr. Redknapp. Please mind your own business and do not try to give reasons why people join clubs. People can join club for whatever reason they like. Beside Nasri is a brilliant player and he would win trophies with manchester city this year. Then you can hide your face wherever you can. City are the new chelsea.

If you were interviewed about this, would you tell the reporter "No I am not going to say anything" and look like a douche or try to say something?

It's the reporter's fault for asking Redknapp who probably isn't the best person to ask for opinions on Nasri lol
shut ur mouth and worry about ur own players.

Why don't you shut your mouth? As if he's the only manager talking about other players. Jesus. I can't believe how ignorant and stuck up some of you Barca fans are. You know Barcelona is the best team in the world, but that's not going to last. At times, your squad have looked less than impressive and with your manager leaving in the next few years, there will be uncertainty again at Camp Nou.
