Mesut Özil has emerged as a fitness doubt for Arsenal's Premier League game at home to Norwich City on Saturday, after he limped off towards the end of Germany's final World Cup qualifier against Sweden in Stockholm on Tuesday night.

The Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger hopes the damage to Özil's knee is nothing more than bruising, as the initial reports have indicated and that the midfielder will be able to continue the fine start that he has made to his career at the club, following his £42.5m move from Real Madrid last month.

Özil scored in the tie against the Swedes, as Germany came back from 2-0 down to win 5-3 thanks, in large part, to a hat-trick from Chelsea's André Schürrle but he felt his knee after a challenge and he had to be replaced in the 82nd minute. Özil flew to London from Stockholm on Wednesday morning and he will be assessed by Arsenal's medics.

Wenger expects to welcome back Santi Cazorla to the squad after an ankle injury while Theo Walcott is close to a return following abdominal surgery. If Walcott does not make it against Norwich, he ought to be back for next Tuesday's Champions League tie at home to Borussia Dortmund.
