Harry Redknapp: Mario Balotelli deserved red card for Parker 'stamp'
Emmanuel Adebayor's enforced absence leaves Spurs short up front

Mario Balotelli could miss the Carling Cup semi-final and three league games for Manchester City after he was charged with violent conduct for kicking Scott Parker on the head during Sunday's 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Italian striker, who Harry Redknapp insisted should not have been on the pitch to convert the stoppage-time penalty that defeated Spurs, was charged on Mondayevening once the Football Association had considered the referee Howard Webb's official match report.

Webb has confirmed he missed the 83rd-minute incident at the Etihad Stadium and would have shown Balotelli a straight red card had he spotted the City substitute appearing to aim a backheel at Parker as the Tottenham midfielder lay on the floor.

Balotelli has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond. Should the 21-year-old accept the FA charge he will automatically serve a four-match suspension having already been dismissed once this season, for two bookable offences in the Premier League draw at Liverpool in November. That would rule him out of Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final second leg at Anfield, where City must overcome a 1-0 first leg deficit to reach Wembley, and league games against Everton, Fulham and Aston Villa.

The Italy international could contest the charge, which would leave him free to face Liverpool and result in a disciplinary hearing this week. However, that would also bring the risk of an extra game's suspension for a frivolous appeal and threaten Balotelli's involvement in the Carling Cup final should Roberto Mancini's team progress. The Premier League leaders have yet to decide with Balotelli what course to take.

Redknapp insisted the FA had no option but to review Balotelli's alleged stamp on Parker after Sunday's enthralling game, when he also claimed Mancini needed to deal with the striker's disciplinary problems. "It's not the first time he's done that, is it?" the Tottenham manager said. "I'm sure it won't be the last."

Mancini, who has yet to comment on the incident with Parker, admitted after Balotelli's dismissal at Anfield that he could not completely trust the forward to steer clear of trouble and would consider leaving him out of key games.

Losing Balotelli for four matches would represent a major setback for the City manager, however. With Carlos Tevez absent in Argentina and seemingly on his way out of the club, Mancini will have only two established strikers, Sergio Agüero and the out-of-form Edin Dzeko, available over the coming weeks should Balotelli accept the FA charge or lose an appeal.

City will be without their suspended captain, Vincent Kompany, for the semi-final at Liverpool, a four-match punishment that caused consternation at the club, and have Yaya and Kolo Touré away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Balotelli has been sent off three times since joining City from Internazionale in August 2010 and been involved in several off-field incidents but team-mates were quick to defend the striker after Sunday's victory over Spurs. The Argentina international Agüero said: "Firstly we all know what a fantastic player he is. Everyone has their own path. But those of us who are really close to Mario know that off the field he's a really good lad.

"Like a lot of players he has his own idiosyncrasies here and there. You know him as a player – what you see on the field. But I know he's a lovely lad. He's a young lad, he takes care of himself and gets on with his own business, approaches his life as he wants."

The City midfielder James Milner, somewhat prophetically, said: "He is fun to have around the place. I don't think I have done an interview this season without being asked about him. It sums up what a character he is. Sometimes the talk is always about the next big game but you can always rely on Mario to set some fireworks off to get the headlines. The rest of us can just quietly keep going about our business."

The FA confirmed that no action will be brought against City's centre-back Joleon Lescott for catching the Spurs defender Younès Kaboul with a flailing arm during Sunday's game.

8 match ban for Suarez for hurting evras feelings, 4 match ban for physically attacking another player (to the head no less)...
Suarez is an idiot. he had already hand ball in the world cup against ghana and then called his hand the hand of god i mean there is something seriously wrong with suarez
yes balotelli's stamp might be intentional but you can't turn away from the fact that FA are biased, how can lescott get away with the elbow and balotelli get charged, last year rooney got away with the same elbow thing, even the first yellow card balotelli got in the spurs game was not yellow, if it was another player it's not yellow, i wish balotelli grows up a bit and be careful in the pitch becoz he is a really talented footballer and can be a very special player in the future if he can mature...mancini has got to step it up coz i believe he is the only one balotelli looks up to as a father and will listen to him...
"why always me " is upset today..Opps..

good i hate balotelli he thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread and i fooking hate his stupid hair cuts.

4 match ban? i dont even think that is justified. him being on field was crucial to city's title race.. but on a more serious note he could have ended a career and destroy parker's life.. that stamp could have easily put a stud in the eye or severely hurt parker.. it's sad to see these unsportsmenlike behavior in football and it's spoiling the game..

He deserves it. He's a great player, but he lacks discipline.
+1
He a really nice player off the pitch, paying library bills, paying for other people drink in the pubs , same he cant find the discipline on the pitch.
+3
If that was against Man United he'd be off for the rest of the season.

stop exaggerating things oskiii
I like how for man city a 'crisis' is defined as having only 2 fit world class strikers...
+3
and zero strikers of less quality. thats why its not world class or not its just that there are two strikers fit. both of whom have inconsistent form.

City for the League ,with or without Super Mario, was a great game to watch.was a foul i do not think it was malisous parker bundle his head into the back of his leg,he thought someboby had caught him and retaliated back catching him .Bale was outstanding hope they match up again. i do think Howard had a good game, but still more area,s to be clarifyed by the F.A.

Bale was certainly not outstanding, in fact, apart from our defense, our team was really average in the entire first half. Bale is partly to blame for Defoe not getting involved at all, there was just no service into him; Bale kind of just abandoned his wing to crowd the midfield. Apart from that wonder strike, he didn't do much else in the game until the last 20 minutes or so when we dominated the game. He also has to take a little bit of fault for not feeding Defoe well enough in our final chance. He passed a bit late.
the FA are a bunch of hypocrites .. i remember when Rooney elbowed a guy in his head and got away, and the intention there was less debatable..

i f*cking hate the FA.... what they allow english players to get away with.

Lescotts elbow?

lol another english player escaping fa action
All this hate is because of Balotelli's "bad boy" reputation that's all. From the footage one can see that it was clearly unintentional. there have been videos altered over & over in slow motion etc to make it seem like he did it on purpose. Heck, the guy even went over to apologize to Parker when he realized what had happened & appeared really sorry. Nobody mentions that. And to think that this is the same FA that went to plead for Rooney's ban to be reduced now stepping in because of something that was an ACCIDENT, the guy lost his balance and if it were any other person besides Balotelli everyone would see it as it was. Norwich goalkeeper viscously knocked Didier Drogba unconcious with a nasty head injury (and I think knocked his tooth out) a few months ago, and the FA didnt care one bit. Yes it was an accident, and so was this and many other incidents in football. I know that Balotelli must be one of the most immature 21year olds out there, but to put this on his record is just unfair because you can see that he did not intend to harm Parker, he just lost his balance. The bias is just unbelievable, shame on the FA.

You sir, are a tool.

It was clearly a kickout, if you don't see it now, you are never going to see it or be convinced that it was as far from accidental as it could be.

You should be proud that you are among the 1% of football fans who are still blind enough to fail to see that Balotelli meant to hurt Parker. Good on ya.

wow.. just wow.. if u think that was a natural fall and 'he did not intend to hurt parker' you must have been hit on the head

@SuperSpurs. as a neutral i agree completely with everything in boh2011's post. TO ME it looked completely unintentional. I'm sorry spurs lost, but I watched that game and really felt with the effort spurs put in they should of won. With all do respect I think you might letting your team's defeat cloud your judgement.
+1
Greatwhitezomb, every single pundit except Lee Dixon says that it was intentional. I'm sorry but you are also a tool. My opinion has nothing to do with the defeat, in fact I am very proud that we came back to almost win against the league leaders, we weren't good throughout the game but when push came to shove, we were able to take control and we dominated the last 20 minutes of that match.

Also, apart from the pundits and analysts, lets just look at the number of thumbs up our comments have, that should tell you what the general consensus is.
