Phil Jones's recovery from an ankle injury is in the balance before Manchester United's meeting with Crystal Palace on Saturday, with the defender expected to undergo assessment later in the week.

Jones limped out of United's 1-0 defeat at Liverpool before the international break, causing him to miss England's World Cup qualifiers with Moldova last Friday and Tuesday evening's trip to Ukraine.

Jones lasted only 37 minutes at Anfield before being replaced by Antonio Valencia so, if he comes through tests, his availability will be welcomed by David Moyes.

The manager is aiming to return to victory when United host Palace in the lunchtime kick-off to increase confidence ahead of their opening Champions League group game with Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford next Tuesday.
