Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Angelo Henríquez from Universidad de Chile for an undisclosed fee. United have had an option on the 18-year-old striker for four years.

"Angelo has made a tremendous impact on the game in his short career so far," Sir Alex Ferguson told ManUtd.com. "His pace is a great asset and he reads the game really well for someone of such a young age. We have a proud record of developing young talent and Angelo fits the profile of a United player – skilful, attacking and someone who plays the game with real flair."

Speaking a few weeks ago Ferguson said: "We had an option on him since he was 14, he came over when he was 15, 16 and we had close contact with him. When he got to 18 it was a matter of should we leave him for another year or should we bring him in. He had such a good summer with Chile's Under-20s we thought we might as well do it now. That took away a lot of interest from other clubs. Options only last so long and we decided to take him in. [He is] 18 years of age, [has a] good finish, [a] good body, great physique for a boy of 18."

Henríquez, who will wear the No21 jersey, said: "To be able to be part of that [United] is a huge honour and I can't wait to get started. I hope I can be part of many successful years with United."
