Ed Woodward keeps a photograph of the scoreboard of Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat at Olympiakos in the Champions League during February’s last-16 opening leg, as a reminder that the club must never again sink to such a low.
The executive vice-chairman was widely pictured taking the snap as Olympiakos scored the second on a humiliating night for United under David Moyes.
The manner of the display proved the nadir of the Scot’s reign as the hierarchy decided afterwards that the direction of the team under Moyes indicated that a change of management was required.
Woodward was upset that United fans had travelled so far to witness such a display and he keeps the photograph as a reminder that it must not happen again.
Nick Powell is due to join the United squad on their summer tour of the US over the next 72 hours after recovering from a minor injury.
However, James Wilson, who scored twice on his debut in Ryan Giggs’ last appearance for United in the 3-1 win over Hull City, has a finger injury and so will not be able to take any part in the tour.
Powell, an attacking midfielder, is expected to be available for the second tour game, against Roma in Denver, and is keen to impress Louis van Gaal.
