Fifteen clubs are said to be interested in John Guidetti, the Manchester City striker, who feared for his career after a virus paralysed his right leg and caused him to miss Sweden's Euro 2012 campaign.

Per Jonsson, his agent, said that the clubs had inquired about him despite Guidetti still not having fully recovered.

The 20-year-old Swede was loaned to Feyenoord last season where he ended as the club's top scorer with 20 goals in 23 Eridivisie games, despite not having played since the middle of April. The problem is thought to have been caused by Guidetti eating some badly cooked chicken.

Casper van Eijck, Feyenoord's doctor, told Dutch station RTV Rijnmond: "I'm so happy there are such good neurologists at Erasmus and Ikazia hospital [in Rotterdam]. If they had not acted so quickly, I would really have feared for his career.

"He worked hard to get back. It has taken longer than we hoped for. Since it was so serious we are happy that he will be one hundred per cent OK. It is important to do everything [rehab] perfect, one or three months does not matter."

Asked how Guidetti is, his agent told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet: "He is pretty well." But pushed how close the forward is to playing, Jonsson added: "I can't speculate, neither can John, but it looks good.

"City and [Roberto] Mancini like him, he says to him every time: 'I understand that you need to play, and if you don't get to play here I am keen on letting you on loan'. But they just want him to get fit first. Step by step – first healthy, then we will concentrate on the next thing."

However, despite Guidetti still being in recovery, Jonsson claims there is interest. "There are 15 clubs who have inquired about the options for John. Right now there are negotiations with City. It's up to them, but I believe everything will work out in the end."

Sunderland are reportedly interested in taking him on loan. Manchester City did not respond to calls.
