Nuri Sahin has ended his disappointing loan spell at Liverpool after five months and rejoined Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.

The Turkey international was a much-heralded arrival at Anfield when he rejected Arsenal's advances to join the club from Real Madrid in the summer, but made only seven league starts as he struggled to secure a first-team place.

With Real wanting him to have regular first team football, and Liverpool ultimately keen to remove his lucrative salary from the wage bill, it suited all parties to end the 24-year-old's season-long deal at Anfield.

Dortmund confirmed on Friday that they had re-signed their former youth team player, who inspired Jürgen Klopp's team to the German title in 2010-11 and was named the Bundesliga player of the year.
