Joe Hart has been dropped by Manchester City for Saturday's Premier League clash against Norwich City.
The England goalkeeper has paid the price for a string of errors this season and will remain on the bench in favour of his usual understudy Costel Pantilimon, who impressed during City's Capital One Cup win at Newcastle on Wednesday and kept a clean sheet.
Although the manager Manuel Pellegrini refused to confirm which goalkeeper will start, Pantilimon trained behind the starting defence in the buildup to the game and has been given the nod.
Pellegrini remained coy when asked in Friday morning's press conference which keeper he would pick. "Tomorrow you will know the XI that starts. It's a decision I have to take every week."
The England No1 has been under intense pressure because of high-profile mistakes this season, the latest of which came in City's Premier League defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.
Regarding whether Hart would have been disappointed to be dropped for the midweek 2-0 win at Newcastle, the manager said: "You must ask Joe, I can't answer for him how disappointed. All of you saw what happened [against Chelsea]."
Asked if he had to be careful with Hart because of his fragile confidence, Pellegrini said: "I am very careful with all the players, not only Joe."
