Harry Redknapp will learn in the coming days whether he faces a misconduct charge from the Football Association for his comments after Queens Park Rangers' defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day, after he responded to the governing body's request for an explanation.

An angry Redknapp had suggested that the assistant referee "should go to Specsavers" after QPR's 2-1 home defeat and the FA has referred the matter to its governance team, which will decide whether to bring the charge that could carry a touchline ban.

Roberto Mancini has been granted extra time to give the FA an explanation about the remarks the Manchester City manager made after his team's loss at Sunderland on the same day, when he said the referee Kevin Friend "maybe ate too much for Christmas".

Mancini and City said that they needed the extension because of the busy festive programme. They are furious that the matter is under consideration, after what they felt was merely a light-hearted comment from the Italian. Mancini now has until Friday to give his observations.
