Blackpool peg back high-flying Palace, Brentford impress in an open League One, Gillingham sit proudly atop League Two

Championship

• Ian Holloway's Crystal Palace failed to keep step with leaders Cardiff City as the Eagles were held 2-2 by Blackpool thanks to Nouha Dicko's 89th minute equaliser. With the transfer window vultures ready to swoop on Palace's coterie of young talents, and on the back of some mixed away results, there couldn't be a worse time for the home form of early pace-setters Palace to stutter. Michael Appleton, meanwhile, has introduced the same kind of stay-in-games mentality that first brought him to notice as a coach at WBA several years ago. 2013 ought to see Blackpool make a decent tilt at a top six finish.

• A brace from DJ Campbell and a second-half strike from Daryl Murphy saw Ipswich put an end to Millwall's 13 game unbeaten run. The Tractor Boys have now won five of the past eight under former Lions stalwart Mick McCarthy, who once again is proving what a shrewd builder of top Championship teams he is.

• But while the Suffolk side move steadily away from the foot of the table, Sheffield Wednesday were dragged further into the mire after losing a relegation six pointer 3-2 at home to Bristol City. Bottom of the table Peterbrough (the Cavalier's Cavaliers of an outrageously Cavalier division) went down 2-3 in a typically entertaining home defeat to Boro.

• Almost result of the day: Jamie Vardy's 90th minute equaliser robbed Barnsley of an unlikely win at high-flying Leicester. The splendidly named Reuben Noble-Lazarus, scoring his first goal as a senior pro, had sent Keith Hill's likeable Yorkshire side into the break 2-1 up. But the Tykes were unable to hang on for the win and slip into the relegation places as a result.

League One

• Swindon Town against Doncaster Rover had all the makings of a flowing top-end-of-the-table clash. But after a Danny Hollands own goal on ten minutes had cancelled out Swindon's eighth-minute opener from the excellent Matt Ritchie, Rovers shut up shop and settled for the draw. This may yet prove a tidy point for Rovers, as fellow League One pace-setters Tranmere were also held to a draw by lowly Portsmouth. (Pompey, now under the guidance of former legend Guy Whittingham, have only taken 2 points out of the last possible 21 and remain in all kinds of existential trouble.)

• For lower league entertainment, as well as for a pub at each corner of the ground, Griffin Park cannot often be beaten. Today, Uwe Rosler's slick-passing side overcame Karl Robinson's equally impressive MK Dons 3-2. Clayton Donaldson, formerly of Crewe and the England National Game XI , scored the 89th minute winner. The Bees can flatter to deceive, but Brentford are now up to fourth.

• League One is this year's Championship with just five points seperating the top seven teams, but all the top seven will now be looking over the shoulder at AFC Bournemouth. Goals from the mercurial yin of Lewis Grabban and the tenacious yang of Wes Fogden, giving The Cherries a 2-1 victory over Scunthorpe. Eddie Howe's team are now unbeaten in twelve matches. When the excellent Howe took over they were relegation fodder, now the South Coast club sit ninth.

League Two

• Gillingham stretched their lead at the top of the division to five points as a brace from veteran Deon Burton secured a fine win for the Gills at Rotherham.

• Stacy Long's late equaliser salvaged a draw for AFC Wimbledon as the south London relegation candidates cancelled out the north London relegation candidates at Underhill. Jake Hyde scored the opener for basement club Barnet, but Long's 84th minute leveller keeps AFC Wimbledon one point above the relegation places.
