Chelsea have announced that Petr Cech will be out for around eight to 10 weeks after successfully undergoing surgery on a shoulder on Wednesday.
Cech dislocated the shoulder in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Atlético Madrid at the Vicente Calderón. His operation means he will miss the rest of the season, as originally expected. The goalkeeper was forced to leave the field in the 18th minute of the 0-0 draw after punching the ball from underneath his crossbar and then colliding with Raúl García, who had been pushed towards him by David Luiz.
The Czech national goalkeeper was replaced by Mark Schwarzer, who went on to play in the 2-0 win at Liverpool, the 3-1 Champions League defeat in the return leg against Atlético and Sunday's 0-0 draw at home to Norwich.
The Czech Republic missed out on the World Cup finals this time round, so Cech will be convalescing in readiness for next season.
