Sid Lowe on Atletico v Madrid in the Copa del Rey:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/may/18/atletico-madrid-real-copa-del-rey

"I couldn't play at Madrid because of how I look," Mono Burgos insisted once. "I'm not joking. They'd make me cut my hair. Atlético is synonymous with workers. Atlético fans are brickies, taxi drivers, and churros sellers."

"I wanted to score that goal for all the kids who laugh at my son every day for being an Atlético fan."
- Miranda

"...this was the year of the décima... just that instead of Madrid's 10th European Cup, it was Atlético's 10th Spanish Cup. In 18 months, Diego Simeone has won as much as José Mourinho in three years."
I wonder who will replace mourinho? Ancelotti? i thought michael laudrup is a good option too but he just signed a new contract -___-
+1
Madrid need to return to being run diplomatically from the President and board. The whole "manager controls everything" won't work without the drama you've seen the past few years.

Laudrup is a horrible option. He's managed in La Liga before, to average fare. It's the equivalent of saying Madrid should sign Michu to replace Ronaldo: it shows the disparity between the two leagues (also look at Pochettino's quality since moving to the Prem).

Benitez is the safe (and wise) option. Only person I can see managing within the constraints of Madrid (and accepting them) as well as creating tactics that would continually frustrate and defeat Barcelona. Especially with his performance at Chelsea this year while being handcuffed in the worst way possible...
How'a Lucas Piazon getting on?
I haven't watched Malaga consistently this season, but what I can say is that they aren't looking to keep their loaned players. They are going to adopt a new policy centered around youth development and cheaper signings - similar to "Porto and Dortmund."

So you'll get Piazon back.

damn, LAST minute tie breaker vs Granada. the last CL spot is going to be dramatic!!!
Both clubs deserved the point. Good La Liga match.

Doesn't goal difference put La Real above Valencia in 4th?

This "throwaway" and "uneventful" clip from the match perfectly highlights the density of beauty in the match:

Can't recall the last time I saw something like that in a Premier League match (Bilbao v United doesn't count :) ).

what the hell did i just see? Thats was amazing, barca-like!

yes, I would think so Mt, but as we know, the tables on FT are a bit flawed

That was a delightful little thing to watch, that back heel swerve.

Чемпионат Испании 2012-13 / 35-й тур / Обзор тура by alexey7604

La Liga's round 35 highlights. Things are starting to heat up as the season comes to a close. Enjoy :)

Unfortunately, because La Real were once again, controversially, scheduled to play on Monday, their highlights were not included.
+1
Keep them coming man! These are great :)

Barca CHAMPIONS! Thank you Espanyol for helping ur brother lol
+1
Brothers? They really don't like each other, like I mean really. The Chelsea banner they put up at the Cornella El-Prat last season against Barcelona is further proof.

"Pues si, me cuesta decirlo. Pero si, gracias!"

Sounds like the same brotherly love found between Atletico and Real Madrid.
Ok i take that back, but i really thought clubs situated in the same region like Catalonia for instance doesnt seems to have a good relationship with Madrid due to history and politics.
This is football damn it, keep politics out of it.

This is Spain, so that's impossible Hikman.
+1
lol seems that in spain, they take rivalry VERY seriously
+1
@Hikman :)

La Liga is all about politics, very little about "football". When you have a country made up of 31 autonomous "mini-countries" and 17 national languages... muy picante y caliente.
According to Guillem Balague, Manchester City have already made contact with Manuel Pellegrini's agent, and will be looking to pay the manager's 4 million buy-out clause. To make matters worse for Malaga, their top priority will be to acquire the services of Isco for a reported 35 million transfer fee.

But they aren't going to just loot Malaga, they are also keeping close tabs on Sevilla's Jesus Navas. Reports have suggested that Navas no longer feels 'home sick' and will be considering his options this Summer. Manchester City might be a favourite.

Wow, this league might get ripped apart this Summer. Such a shame. I only just started watching La Liga again.
When Valencia did their magic between 2000 - 2003 I had hope that finally another strong contender is born. But bad management and bad financing stroke again. I thought Mendieta and Claudio Lopez are going to be icons, but they left for Lazio. I learned my lesson, a football club is like building a house. Some want to get up there quick and easy, they don't put the bricks right, and after a moment of joy they fall again into obscurity. Sounds cliche, yet it happens over and over.

It used to be Valencia, Deportivo and Atletico some may say Real Betis. Again history repeats itself this time its Malaga.

"I only just started watching La Liga again"......what have u been doing the past few seasons????!!!
Waitaminute. You guys have to relax. You JUST started watching, now you think it's all over due to players being bought by other leagues? In Spain, when you kill something, it only comes back stronger.

Here are the players Valencia have "lost" every year within the past 4 years:
David Silva
David Villa
Juan Mata
Isco
And now they currently sit 4th and are in CL Qualifying.
+1
^Valencia is even having a hard time maintaining its 4th position now.

Thanks for making my point.
@Mad93

I occasionally watched La Liga in earlier years, but eventually got tired from it all. The football was slow, too much emphasis on possession, and I would have to see many quality players leaving. But thanks to clubs like Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Malaga, and to an extent Rayo, they've brought a certain excitement back into the league. They are playing brilliant football and surprising some of the Spanish heavy weights. So I feel like I can enjoy watching the football in Spain again.

@Mt1234

The problem is that over time it becomes increasingly difficult for clubs like Valencia to not only make a European spot, but compete in Europe in general. And then we have such enjoyable clubs like La Real who if lose some key players, may not produce the same level of football they do now.

There are some clubs that have created something special, but with a few departures, that special something goes away. It becomes disappointing.
+1
@Blanco Si. What has happened is the possession has picked up in pace, it's not the Arsenal style of Spanish-style football (slow and sloppy). Here's a Carlos Vela goal against Bolton consisting of (ahem) "20+ passes":

http://youtu.be/cHZ0Vcp579w

Here's a MUCH better Arsenal implementation from earlier this season (Wilshere just returned) with a few Spanish players having been picked up since the above vid:

http://youtu.be/GKI5j_Np1do

I'm actually noticing the problem is that more CL spots need to be given out to Serie A, Bundesliga, and La Liga (at the least). Bundesliga will benefit this year due to getting the extra CL spot for the CL winner.

If Valencia get the 4th spot, then they deserve it. But RSdF and Malaga/Betis also deserve a spot as well. Minnows are good for the tournament, great for neutrals to cheer on. Serie A is also loaded with deserving clubs (even deeper than La Liga this year due to Inter's poor form).
anyone know if Illarra is back for RSdF?
As far as I know, he's still injured. Calf problem?
damn! -_-
