Home Stays In The Favelas... How Good Are They?
Cacoguedes (Barcelona) 3 years ago
Hey, I was wondering if any of you had any experience staying in Favelas.... I've been hearing about them as an option that is relatively inexpensive, safe, cool, etc. Any opinions on this?

I was looking at some of the favela options myself and they seemed quite good. I decided against it with all the renewed problems in Rochina recently.

I found a campsite, which is relatively close, it is in Recreio. World Cup Camping Rio is the name, they have a website, the same name. It seems quite cheap too.

I will book with them to stay for the whole month I think

The real question is safety. I'm sure it would be an interesting experience, but without the safety assurances that some of the local hotels would have, this option would definitely be "Stay at your own incredible risk. "
