Who Would You Put In The England Starting XI?
Rockerr (Liverpool) 7 years ago
IMO  Glen Johnson instead of richards.  And lennon instead of A. Young
Daveej (Middlesbrough) 7 years ago
Defoe is on fire. He should start irrespective of debates about who works better with rooney. True, heskey does well to hold the ball up and feed onto rooney, but england should really utilise defoe when he's hot. Not sure who to put on the right out of wright phillips and lennon, but lennon did play very well against croatia and seems to have a point to prove for england. Can't really go past lampard and gerrard in the middle. Joe cole on the left if he's fit - the guy makes things happen and is exciting to watch. Ferdinand and terry are our rocks in central defence. Johnson and cole make for great attacking wing backs.

Gk: Foster
Rb: Johnson
Cb: Ferdinand
Cb: Terry
Lb: A. Cole
Rm: Lennon
Cm: Gerrard
Cm: Lampard
Lm: J. Cole
Cf: Defoe
Cf: Rooney
Yamsy (Liverpool) 7 years ago
No one wants to mention Heskey maybe?

For me, the starting line-up at England's current form would have to be using the 4-5-1 formation.

Gk: James
Df: Johnson, Terry, Ferdinand, A. Cole
Mf: Lampard, Barry, Gerrard
Wf: Lennon, A. Young
Cf: Rooney

The reason I would start with Rooney and not with Defoe is that, Defoe nearly always come on late in the game to score. So in that I would prefer him as an impact striker.

I picked Lennon because I personally think he is the better choice (ahead of Wright-Phillips and Walcott) in the current form, and I think that he and Johnson really worked well together in the flank

You do have a point but I think you should have a way to start Defoe and Rooney. To great forwards 2gthr

Adapting Liverpool's way of playing Gerrard as CF, it could work...
Kimaway17 (Liverpool) 7 years ago
Ya it could. I am not convince with Lennon. He's decision making is crap. He can dribble but when it come to decisions then he messes up
Sergio 7 years ago
IT could. But lets not. I think gerrards posession in the midfield with barry and lampard is exquisique. Would love him more on the left side. For example the Croatia game. The Middield was playing fluid football that I never seen this generation of stars do
ManUK (Manchester United) 7 years ago
Totally plus, I'm not sure what you have with Lennon Kim he was are best player vs croatia

Yogan (Chelsea) 7 years ago
Right so everyone's started to put Joe Cole now, right?
Yamsy (Liverpool) 7 years ago
No, I still believe he is not gonna' be fully fit to play after the injury, maybe a few months later...
Sergio 7 years ago
I disagree (Sorry) To me he will always have the spirit and instinct

Joe Cole--Gerrard--Hargreaves/Carrick--Lampard

Joe Hart will certainly improve this season while starting for Birmingham and he really is a fantastic keeper. Johnson and ashley cole are no brainers for me at full back and the centre is no more difficult to decide with terry and ferdinand. Joe cole will have regained his form hopefully by the time the world cup starts up next summer and will bring that extra flair needed to break down tougher opponents while gerrard partners up with hargreaves (so long as he's fit, if not the carrick to take his place) with the canadian playing a little further back to allow gerrard to push up more. Lampard will cut in to play the gap left by hargreaves while the latter hangs back to provide more defensive cover. Lampard will thus play more centrally at times while also keeping to the wing to provide crosses for defoe and rooney to latch onto. Subs will include rob green, jolean lescott, gareth barry, david beckham, ashley young, michael owen, and carlton cole
Kimaway17 (Liverpool) 7 years ago
I disagree with Joe Cole. I think that it should be Walcott Gerrard Lampard Barry. So good. Joe Cole hasnt got a game in a long time. So I think that he will lose his sparkle.
Incuteration (Everton) 7 years ago
Sorry, no Hargreaves. He couldn't even hardly get a starting line-up in his team and you want him to be in England squad. He has long passed his prime
ManUK (Manchester United) 7 years ago
Nah he's in his prime just injured but will be back soon he finally returned
Sergio 7 years ago
If Hargreaves, Joe Cole and Walcott are back in the mix then I think we will have the most dept in quality in the world,

Yamsy (Liverpool) 7 years ago
Do you think Almunia would be a great addition if he were to get that England visa?
Kimaway17 (Liverpool) 7 years ago
Ya I do think he will
Sergio 7 years ago
What is this possible? Isn't he spanish. But if that's true then sure gimmi a shout
On3two (Manchester United) 7 years ago
The critical point of the England team on so many occasions has been the midfield, and in particular, the partnership between Lampard and Gerrard. So many people say that they do not compliment each other and cannot play alongside one another. In my opinion, they can play well with each other but Gerrard will always be the more prominent of the two players.

I really think Crouch will never be the first choice to partner Rooney up front. He has height and a robot dance. That is all
Kimaway17 (Liverpool) 7 years ago
At the moment I would put defoe and all man citys englsh men
Incuteration (Everton) 7 years ago
All Man City's english man?
Should be:

----Richards----Lescott------Terry---------A. Cole----

----SWP--------Barry---------Gerrard-----J. Cole-------

Yamsy (Liverpool) 7 years ago
That's not bad, but that will be too much like City! Too much fatigue for players...
Ekky137 (Real Madrid) 7 years ago

---Johnson--Terry--Ferdinand--A. Cole

---SWP----Gerrerd----Lampard----J. Cole

Yamsy (Liverpool) 7 years ago
Even with Defoe's sparkling form, u'd choose Owen over him...
Sergio 7 years ago
And Foster? Come On!
Kimaway17 (Liverpool) 7 years ago
I don't see what is so good about foster
Yogan (Chelsea) 7 years ago
Yep. Definitely
Sergio 7 years ago
Foster=Carson=Robinon // All Mistakes, none of them will deal with the pressure. Green all the way
