Apparently, officials from the premier league are meeting this week to discuss once agian the idea of Celtic and Rangers joining the Premier League. One idea being put forward is to split the Premiership down into a "two tier" league. Was wondering what the general opinion is on this idea. Personally I think it sounds like a big mistake in the making
I wonder if englands top four join a european super league, would rangers and celtic be as interested in joining the epl? I agree with you cgeiregger, it would be a big blunder. You gotta' think of the teams in the lower reaches of the premier league, who depend on utd, liverpool, chelsea, arsenal, spurs visiting their grounds once a season, and bring in revenue. Leave things be.... Plzzzzzzzzz
Very good point. Also I think it would ruin the spectacle. Games like Burnley beating Man utd or fulham beating Liverpool last week. Those fixtures might not even appear if the top half becomes its own league. Also, how many games would be played? Assuming rangers and celtic join, there would be 11 teams in each league. Will the teams play eachother 4 times or will we just have really short seasons? Bestie, you're right mate. Leave things be
It is nice idea to bring two tier! Cgeiregger! If cletic and rangers are coming primier means it will tough for top four table! In primier league. By this primier league would be the watched by all over football fans than any other european league. It will be intersting to see every matches of this league! To see who is going to win the league! It will be a big fight between the teams if they puts thier legs in primier league!
Firstly, thanks for your abuse of punctuation to just make it sound like you're shouting my name. Seccondly, we already have that in the premier league as it is. I think that the system we have now is a perfectly good one and we shouldnt mess with it. Celtic and Rangers have both said in the past that they would be prepared to join english football and start in the lower leagues and build up, which I have no problem with at all. I just don't think we need to completely rearange the system to fit them in. Also, as a fan of a newly promoted team to the top flight, it would be a real blow for the top flight we worked so hard to get into to become the top flight second class
While I would love to see the addition of the Rangers and Celtic into the Premiership, this two tier business is a bad decision. Not only would huge upsets be eliminated against the top 4 (Burnley v United, Fulham v Liverpool, or Middlesborough v Liverpool last season). Where's the fun in that? It makes things infinitely more complicated and difficult for smaller clubs to fill their stadiums as much as they can when big clubs come for a visit. It's a no go in my opinion. It would also leave the SPL in shambles
Agreed Rangers and Celtic are far to good (usually) for the SPL good addition to the prem I would think. Playing Celtic on a regular Saturday is something new and exciting. The Two tier thing is just uhg. Why on Earth would you want two tiers? I can understand them thinking Burnley's not on the same level as the big boys, well then the surprise 1-0 win over United would never of happened would it? Plus I just like the whole league together like it's always been
The Premier League already operates with a second tier. And a third and fourth, for that matter. All of our leagues are under the FA and the renaming is just another way of making television companies shell out more money for the rights to show games live.
And I still don't know why the subject of Celtic and Rangers joining keeps rearing it's head. They're never going to be allowed to join English football as it stands. And they certainly wouldn't be allowed straight into the Premier League. That would be a breach of contract between the FA and all the clubs in English football. How unfair would it be on the sides that have strived to get into the EPL for the last few years (Sheffield United, Preston, etc....) just to be told that they can't gain promotion for a year, even if they win the league, because the Old Firm have applied? They would have to start much lower down the divisions which neither club would do because they'd lose too much money. And if they were pushed straight into the EPL neither would get anywhere near competing at the top. It's a silly suggestion that just won't go away for some reason
Exactly, the second part of your thread is exactly what I would ahve said, it is so right. The whole of the FA will get demolished and scattered around if this happens because what about promotion and relegation? 20 teams is enough. Well said Salty
Personally, I would be allowing of any teams in the British Isles to play in the English football system, but not to just let Celtic and Rangers waltz right into the top at the expense of other teams that have been trying to get into the top flight of football. If Celtic and Rangers want to play English football I can certainly understand as there is a precedent of non English teams that are in English leagues, put I think that just allowing Celtic and Rangers to enter and then changing the format of the Premier League to accommodate them would be unfair
I think we should have separate leagues. Everyone calls it the EPL now but if this all goes though it should be the GBPL (Great Britain Premier League). I think every league needs a Top Four or a Top Two, so I don't think the Old Firm should move into the Prem.
And whats this about a two tier league? Whats the point? The Prem is fine how it is, we don't need two tiers. Why can't they just leave it how it is and accept that it is the greatest league in the World according to viewers. I mean, why?
This sounds like how they do footy over here in the US of A with MLS. The only way I could possibly see a two tier top flight EPL working is if they were to evenly distribute the top teams into each bracket. However, this would push forward the idea of playoffs, because how else would we know who is really the best in the league?
As to allowing Rangers and Celtic into the EPL, I agree, SO unfair for all the other lower tier teams. Big mistake
